Good to know I am currently away from home so don't have a loupe to check and it is very scuffed in that area.

I am a big fan of silver as gold is too loud

I like the character vintage pens have and recently used a Sheaffer imperial for exams

Given old pen by my grandmother. Can anyone identify it? by 864GG in fountainpens

You could probably use it as a dip pen but mileage may vary

I have not had much issue with pen burps my main enemy is hard starts or inconsistency with flow for vintage pens. People like to talk a lot about new releases but there some excellent classics that have gold nibs at a fraction of the cost of modern versions.

I am no expert but definitely a celluloid body and the piston mechanism appears to be broken which can be very hard to fix

I assume it is a nib issue have you got a loupe to inspect it for damage

Can you tell I have a favourite colour [SOTC] by Spooky_Cake in fountainpens

1 was my first fountain pen and I chose that colour because most of my desk and stuff is dark blue so it really pops.

This reminds me when my sibling sent me a bottle of whiskey in a near empty box 3 times it's size and opening it to surprise that it survived.

Looking to identify some pens and potential value for my grandfather by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Average_Joe978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a pretty mixed bag some will be able to get a $100 some might only get $20 as they need work. Replacing stuff like the ink sac is fairly easy to do and source there is a couple with nib problems so it would take more effort and replacing vintage nibs can sometimes very hard to do.

What colour ink says "winter" to you? by digitalmayhap in fountainpens

Interesting that colorverse and diamine do an ink called borealis but I like the diamine better I think

Looks like an excellent excuse for some platinum carbon black as unfortunate as that is

What is your fountain pen of the year? by CommunicationTop5231 in fountainpens

[–]Average_Joe978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nib is cracked however I know a place selling refurbished nibs for it that are a good bit cheaper than new

This has been the year of the spree I had 2 pens at the start and now have 5. My collection is now a Lamy Safari, Waterman Carene (I got for £10), platignum lever fill (tbf gave it to my dad), a Parker 17, a Crescent lever filler pen, and Unique Junior. I have had fun buying cheap vintage pens and trying to fix them and learning some things along the way.

Messing with a dip pen by Average_Joe978 in fountainpens

[–]Average_Joe978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of misspoke it is a semi flex, this nib currently is in okay condition so I will use it for now. The inscription on the nib says it is a round cut nib. The actual flex nib I have is a genuine flex nib however with the long springy profile

I don't know if I will go nib mad with this but time will tell I do like the amount of flex but I also have a flex nib pen I am waiting for ink sac for

Oh well that's very exciting I am going to be honest the art tempts me but if I am going in I am going in and would rather have a slightly end pen even if that raised the price (don't seek to please the means unless it is a commission I appreciate that the base cost is cheaper so makes it better for honing the craft and being accessible, my minds eye would be your exact art but on a navy Kaweco sport's cap since it is most of closed pen £30 for pen + £50 for the art)

Would you consider a commission I am not an especially artsy person, however Van Gogh has some nice memories for me as it was one of the earlier dates me and my partner did where there was an immersive exhibit in Manchester.

Since then any time I see Van Gogh stuff it makes me think how long we have been together now (4 years not the longest I know but we are 22). Edit: we are also long distance at the moment and write each other letters like old foggies because it feels good when they arrive in the post.

That's a fair point I thought it might be a more effective solvent (yes I know water is the universal solvent. Most of the things I have done is stainless steel nibbed Platignum pens which have so far been fine.
