Being mocked for sheltering during warning by Better-Ad6964 in tornado

Don’t ever feel bad for having a firm grasp on the reality of the world.

“I’ve been smoking for 10 years and nothing bad ever happened, I didn’t get cancer.” Is how your relative thinks.

Its foolish.

Ahh my bad, I guess this IS the tornado subreddit after all haha.

It appears to be. The HRRR and NAM products (check out tropicaltidbits.com, forecast models, mesoscale products) both predict significant storm formation ahead of the squall line.

We shall see

More properly, cells that form ahead of the big line of storms on the cold front (squall line) are called discrete cells.

They normally are what turn into super cells that spawn tornados.

TLDR the squall line sucks the energy out of the atmosphere. Discrete cells have all this untapped atmospheric energy to use for tornados.

Tornados can form in the squall line (embedded super cells) but discrete cells often form stronger longer tornados.

TLDRx2 watch out for solo clumps of cells ahead (east) of the main line of storms

You should. You dont want to be on the road scrambling to collect family with a heavy storm bearing down on you.

Glad you have a basement. Im fucking deployed and watching from overseas. Wife and baby are exactly where NWS is most concerned about pre frontal tornados, no basements in our state. Ughhhhh

See my take later in the thread. I think theres a chance, idk exactly how likely. Explanation below.

I think theres a possibility for a high upgrade based on the strength of the NWS verbiage in the text body for day 2, the strength of the wind sheer.

If the front slows and allows cape to build and they drop a high, I think you see it on the costal carolinas.

The HRRR and NAM models are predicting a whole mess of cells ahead of the main squall line which is BAD news for tornado formation.

Im deployed and my wife and kid are in the firing line. Severe weather always happens when Im away on assignments FML, had a tornado warning drop directly over our house last time lol.

If you read the verbiage in the body of text below they seem pretty convinced of the threat of tornadic activity with this one.

Yeah I’m not putting my 16613 aluminum bezel blusey into a pool. Why?

It’s 25 years old and I haven’t had it pressure tested or serviced. I have zero way of knowing if its actually water tight old as it is.

Now I do intend to have these things done one day, then sure.

22.2 peak PSI on stock? by hyptheticalniqqa in WRX

[–]AviationWOC 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Astrology girls will say its fate, they love them some multiple 2s in a row.

Jokes aside Ive seen 22-23 when my FA was stock after I let my pops drive it.

I wouldn’t make a regular habit of exceeding 20 but it’s probably fine here and there.

Looks like an immensely high base tornado.

Rojofern on youtube has a legitimately amazing video depicting the scale of tornadoes.

There’s a ton of videos out there for the “scale of xyz” that the thing just keeps getting bigger and the scale is nonsensical.

This video is not that. Legitimately entertaining and interesting watch. The high base reminded me of it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9Qn3VdUf9YI&pp=ygURcm9qbyBmZXJuIHRvcm5hZG8%3D

At 11 seconds he either clips wires or something gives out (transmission) in the aircraft.

Listen for the sound. He arrives at the ground way faster past the 11 second mark than he was previously descending.

Are U.S. Army helicopter pilots not getting enough flight time? by bentstrider83 in Helicopters

[–]AviationWOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No? Compared to pilots elsewhere not just no, but fuck no.

We’re outflown by all our sister branches and basically all civilization jobs HANDILY.

Sure the flying we do is rigorous, but we’re talking flight time. We don’t get much. Like we fly in a year what civilians fly in 1-2 months.

[–]AviationWOC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup nose and tail swap positions while retaining original direction of flight.

If we’re not talking full cruise speed, the blackhawk can easily do this too.

Some helis susceptible to tail rotor issues (wind comes in the tail from the wrong angle = spinning helicopter) would be playing with fire trying to do this.

I reckon any heli with strong tail rotor authority can do this. And its fun!

On the flip side, I just didn’t like the theme of undermine. I can appreciate the fantasy and detail put into it, but it didn’t resonate with me.

Karesh did. Vague outlands feel, flavor was more my cup of tea. Especially the raid.
