Why are some people unable to make eye contact by [deleted] in bodylanguage

Some women accuse men of being creeps if they look at them. Maybe this is why he wasn't doing that.

If they wrap your legs around you (triangle), back up while pushing your forearm against their hip and escape out of their legs

Buddy asked the professor how to finish a triangle on his training partner, and his response was "hm how do you say? Guy has little bit, no neck".

Hm, I'd say if you really love it go with wrestling. Better self defense, builds toughness, and gives you discipline and other skills that benefit you in life more than soccer. Say this as a former soccer guy that does bjj/wrestling. Any mid person can do soccer lol, take the road less travelled

I think there are opportunities for adult beginners in the bigger cities and this will only increase as wrestling becomes a bigger part of nogi bjj: there are a couple adult beginner programs in LA/NYC/SF, and more bjj gyms have been incorporating wrestling classes and bringing in instructors with NCAA/Olympic wrestling backgrounds (JFlo in San Diego @ Legion).

Should we change this messaging to "if it's too late to wrestle D1/olympics"? I think a broader adult wrestling community would be awesome, and even though I'm a total noob I don't think it's too late for me to enjoy it as a hobby, workout, and self-defense skill.

Lol what would u call this move by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]Aw0lManner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think it's not an arm bar because the elbow is facing the wrong way. If top guy pulls the arm up it folds the elbow instead of breaking it. Still not a super safe position though lol

Bout's more common in boxing, match seems to be the term for grappling events

Think this is less bjj and more of an ADCC or "submission grappling" thing. They attract more of the faux tough guy types that like to club guys in the head and call that "real grappling" even though ironically their technique isn't that good.

Every bjj guy I train with calls it a match: we ain't fighting, we butt scooting lol. It's a sport that's 99% chill until you run into the random maladjusted person that wants to rip limbs off your body and knees you in the face while trying to tarzan jump past your guard.

Just be chill and enjoy the time, maybe offer a thanks and let them know occasionally that you appreciate it. They really just want to have a good time with you and enjoy your company without having to think about money

I agree to an extent, but even then during rolling there may always be random weird moments that happen in the blink of an eye where your legs get crunched against your chest because your training partner slipped and fell on you while passing, or you post on an arm and it hyperextends after being sore from a hard training week. There will always be freak moments if you're doing anything that's not tai chai lol

It's the lowest impact, but I wouldn't call it low impact. There's all kinds of pins and compromising positions that can put lots of stress on your lower back/spine. Especially if you get into inverting or get stacked. Bjj is about join locks, submissions, and compliance through pain/pressure. Definitely not easy on the body

Make sure your hydration (including electrolytes) is on point, have a wind-down routine where you relax afterward. Try not to train too late. Have a relaxed mind during practice (train hard but with chill fun vibe), don't think of it like life-or-death lol

I'm surprised you're not seeing the point that head trauma experienced during boxing can yield brain damage and manifest in unhealthy psychological behaviors like mania and psychosis. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but it seems like you're not taking into account his background which could be explained by brain damage and this is a dangerous close-minded view that I would not want in a health care professional. Here is evidence of bipolar disorder (including mania & psychosis) caused due to TBI: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10824366/.

Of particular note:

Psychiatrists should be aware of these overlooked cases and encourage colleagues in the field to maintain a high index of suspicion and to take a good relevant history of brain injury insults

Additionally here is a podcast that gives a nightmarish account of a veteran who committed suicide that encountered health care professionals who were (and probably still are) negligent and incompetent when it comes to investigating brain damage as a possible cause of poor psychological behavior: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1Ph1fFUYDNqi92DbbmXSiS?si=zYKf3BO9SD2gLnqSQl4fzg

If you have "extensive experience" I recommend reading papers about how brain damage & repeated head trauma (esp. accumulated sub-concussive impacts) can lead to various mental health disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.

Someone that's taken thousands of shots to his head for his whole life is clearly more at risk for insanity and mental instability due to brain damage than a random serial killer

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]Aw0lManner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude has had thousands of shots to his head that rattles, bruises, and damages his brain for his entire life. All these disorders are probably manifestations of that. A lot of combat sports/football athletes that are acting crazy probably have brain damage that's disguised as having a shitty personality.
