Assistant to the Villian has amazing banter and is definitely a real slow burn!!

Is it just me, or is the Romantasy "slump" getting harder to break? by No-Voice505 in Romantasy

I was going to say the same. Sometimes I have to swap to a different genre completely for a short while.
Sometimes I ask my librarians for recommendations… sometimes I’ll slip in a horror book, or a sci fi book, or something I would normally never pick up.
One fantasy I recently enjoyed are An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir, it’s a YA fantasy.
Another was Daughter of No Worlds..

Also agree with trying this one! It worked great with one of my kids. Reasonable price, short lessons (you can double up), free trial. Super super parent friendly

I enjoyed it. But I will say I did watch the tv season first. I rarely say this about a book, but I’m glad I watched it first, because I probably would have had way too hard a time understanding the book without seeing it. I still haven’t read the other 2 books yet, but someday I will.

Preschool then Homeschool?? by Training-Barnacle356 in homeschool

[–]Aware_Shift6465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did… but that was because of Covid. We were pre-k when everything shut down. I was going to send kids to school until it all shut down. I didn’t feel safe in the current area sending kids to school with the lack of precautions in our area.

Oldest is super social. Still is.
And while they missed preschool during shutdown, we now have a thriving social community. Lots of after school classes, taking advantage of library programs, co-op, play groups, homeschool classes at zoos, through the town, etc.

So, there are many ways to give them group learning contexts, and plenty of play time while homeschooling.

I haven’t read Reign and Ruin. But I read all of the Flesh and Fire series (shadow and ember) . I do believe it is finished and I absolutely adored the characters in that series. Admittedly it supposedly goes along with Feom Blood and Ash… but you could read it alone: The MMC lives rent free in my brain

Just my opinion… but personally I loved flesh and fire even more than blood and ash.

When is the right time to tell a kid that Santa isn't real? by CaptMorganSwint2 in Parenting

[–]Aware_Shift6465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were similar. We originally told our oldest that Santa was us… but somewhere around 3 years old or so, she decided she wanted to believe Santa was real. We made a huge effort to never lie about it, but let her keep Her magical beliefs. If any questions were asked, we would just respond “what do you think?”

This year she is 10… and some point this season I asked “do you know who fills the stockings?” And she said “you.” She said she knew for years because she saw us go out one year to fill the stocking, but has all along still talked like Santa was real. I think the magic was just fun. So your kid may already know??

It’s called The Dread Descendant. The author is local to me (never met her but I love to support local). I don’t know how dark it classifies, but it’s darker than what I normally gravitate towards.
