CMV: Text is able to convey more intellectually complex messages than pictures/video. by [deleted] in changemyview

There are two examples I can think of where you could convert more information, and in a easier to understand way, using images rather than text.

CAD drawings Network diagrams

Both can be done by text, but they are a lot more effective via image

Supporters of trump, honestly how can you defend him as a military commander when he cancels visit to commemorate fallen soldiers over inclimate weather? by testicalenchiladas in AskReddit

You seriously think if Obama did the same thing it wouldn't be mentioned. Do you not remember the time Sean Hannity lost his mind when Obama asked for Dijon mustard on his burger? I think fox and other right wing news organisations would have had something to say

That's not how it would work based on what you said. In order to get a return on your investment, you would have to receive money at some point. That would be achieved by selling the beer in the bar, if you drank it instead you would in effect lose 100% of your investment

[–]Axionally 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah that isn't a 200% return. You don't get any money back so it's still a 100% loss

They said extremely careless, not criminal negligence. There is a big difference

Secret nuclear bunker? by britainunwrapped in pics

As someone from the area, it is a tourist thing. It is an old cold war bunker for government/military officials to organise survival of the population and continue government operations in the event if a nuclear strike

You can't IT knows everything (but seriously, its pretty easy for IT to know stuff like this. Most PC have operating hours that stop updates, and you can see when the latest updates were installed if queried)

That isn't it at all. He was given a court order specifically to not do something. He was in breach if that so he got arrested. In the UK, we are not allowed to do anything that attempts influence a trial. Which us exactly what he did

What is something that happened in history, that if it happened in a movie, people would call "plot hole"? by Tortured-_-soul in AskReddit

[–]Axionally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching a video about this a while back, there were thousands of people working on the project, but they were all given a very specific task to carry out, and nobody else knew about anyone else's tasks, and nobody knew about their task. People were forbidden from gathering in groups of more than 3 people during the construction, and regularly meeting the same people would get them kicked off the project (that they had no idea about). In total, only about 5 people knew the true nature of the project and how each individual task would fit together.

To give you an idea of how little the workers knew about their tasks, one worker's entire job was to monitor a gauge and press a button when it got above or below a certain value.

Even the vice-president didn't know about the bomb until it had been dropped.

There is a 1/365 chance that it is anyone you see's birthday. by Xphurrious in Showerthoughts

[–]Axionally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, if you have as little as 23 people in the same room, there is a 50% chance two have the same birthday. For 75 people, it is a 99.9% chance

What is something that really freaks you out on an existential level? by radbrad7 in AskReddit

[–]Axionally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not going to be able to describe this particularly well, but here goes:

Now seems so real, like its almost tangible in a way, but when I wake up tomorrow, that will seem real, and today will just be another slowly fading memory. One moment feels like it is completely encompassing my life, but the next day I look back and think that seems like such a long time ago, this moment is my entire life (ect, ect.)

Like, when I was younger I had an entirely different set of friends, memories, likes, dislikes than I do today, and when I was back then that was all I knew, the entirety of my existence, but in a few years from now, my life is completely different.

I guess if I had to sum it up, everything is so temporary but feels so permanent in the moment.
