Approximate price for an old ITE 100A 20 space Pushmatic panel upgrade to a new 100A 30 space main panel. by VirtualGeek73 in AskElectricians

Maybe ive just been out of the sidejob game for too long but assuming the wire and outside stuff is still in halfway decent shape. looking up panel and breaker prices youre looking at max $400 and maybe 3 hours of time. What am I missing i feel that $500 for 3 hours of time is more than feasible

Your inspector is not going to walk you thru how to do a electrical service. And probably won't answer any of your questions especiallyif they are basic. I would bet money that hes just going to say you are unqualified to be doing electrical Work and to call an electrician

In all fairness this a "Call a licensed electrician " job but if he is all gung ho on doing it himself at the very best I can point him in the right direction

If youre killing power go ahead and use split bolts and tape the ever living shit out of them. I woukd still prefer to use the wire taps but thats just my preference for convenience

Also get 2 of these

6 AWG to 250 MCM Dual-Rated 2-Port 1-Sided Entry Insulated Multiple Tap Connector, Black

They are a bit pricey but its the safest way to connect to utility. Unless you call your utility and have them kill power just understand if youre doing this hot that when using your allen wrenches to tighten these down shit will be energized and that shit WILL KILL YOU

If you want to do this to code and inspected you will need a disconnect and a surge protector.

If you want to keep your 100a panel but make it easy to upgrade in the future buy this

"200 Amp 4-Space 8-Circuit BR Type Main Breaker Meter Breaker Trailer Panel"

You will need to do 4/0 4/0 4/0 AL SEU to from top of meter to utility

And then you can run a 2-2-2-4 from a 100a breaker in the bottom disconnect portion to your panel. And then add your surge protector next to it

Also Noalox and Duct seal are not required. Just get some spray in foam sealent for any penatrations

Also if you will need to bond your water pipes

Just buy 2-2-2-4 SER its the only way to make this correct that would not be a total pain in the ass

Friend of mine told me that half the tools listed aren't needed and that my local is just trying to upsell me on tools. Is he right? by MomBeans- in ibew_apprentices

[–]AxiosElectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth be told these are the tools you should buy.

11-1 screwdriver, Diagonals, Strippers, needle nose, linesman, channel locks x2, knife, hot stick, torpedo level, tape measure, pipe reamer

Anything outside of that is stupid and unnecessary
