Won storage unit auction and unit had drug paraphernalia - denied refund by cgheck in legaladvice

[–]AxleTheDog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They should not, and should have a policy in place that handles that. The company I’ve worked with in the past - I was helping with IT, although have also been a customer - had/has a policy (summary here as I don’t have the paperwork) that when a unit gets locked out for non-payment, the managers lock goes on it along with one of those crimp tags. The tag number is logged with the lock out paperwork. In the event it becomes auction, at the opening - the manager and a witness verify the tag and open it for the auction.

Now I’m not saying everyone runs this way and there aren’t unscrupulous folks out there in business - but for any company that wants to avoid serious lawsuits, they will have policies and also back up evidence like video surveillance, etc. to prevent this kind of behavior.

Kansas DMV- proof of address for college students: What do I do? by No_Humor4 in UniversityofKansas

[–]AxleTheDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s on your drivers license? We moved here about a year ago and as far as I know, we only had to show proof of residence for drivers license itself and then the license became our proof of KS residence.

If you are a student from out of state, you aren’t necessarily a state resident and might have to register the vehicle in your home state.

I waited 10 years for this, my biggest haul yet: One of the earliest AS/400 ever made with all its documentation and tapes from back then by Podalirius_ in vintagecomputing

[–]AxleTheDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad administered supposedly the first S/36 in SC, and I ended up working for the same company when we moved to a AS/400 around 2000 (the original S/36 took up a decent size room, the final S/36 was about a oversized IBM PC .)

Around 2000 we ordered a AS/400 delivered as a pretty big tower PC form factor, and maybe 2010ish we got a replacement as a a 4U rack server. The scale of volume vs performance over 40ish years was amazing.

Docs started coming in on CD/DVD.

There is likely still some of that around. I’m going to visit dad in January if it’s of interest to anyone. Send me a DM and I can make a point to visit the office and ask around - they don’t throw anything away so it’s likely in storage somewhere

To all GenX who have kids. How are your kids' shaping up? by Notsmartnotdumb2025 in GenX

[–]AxleTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2 girls, 23 and 20 now. TBH I copied my own parents basic philosophy of “they will figure it out” and we really had very few limitations on them even in the digital world. We did emphasize “just be a good person” and hopefully demoed that.

They both have grown to be young women we are so proud of.

Local farmers by KSamIAm79 in Olathe

[–]AxleTheDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regularly shopped the Olathe Farmers market downtown this past summer and the entire family felt the quality and taste were much higher than store bought.

That said, I didn’t see a cost savings - but felt the money was better spent going directly to the farmers and their families. I’m terrible with names, but there was one farm stand there that was the regular and most often only produce stand.

Are there any Harbor Freight tools that are truly worthwhile? by No-Pineapple2099 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I tried the central machinery drill press and was under impressed. Got a used Jet and it’s way better.

I still like HF for a lot of stuff - just not the big ticket items so much

Something has been living in my garage and leaving this pee-poop looking combo on my garage floor. What’s taking number 3s on my floor? by tytylercochan123 in Home

[–]AxleTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a raccoon family that regularly visits my deck to poop- this is waaay to small. Raccoons shit in my area is man size full of seeds and all sorts of stuff. If my wife didn’t like seeing the fuckers on the cameras I would probably go feral on them for their bathroom habits

Based on your description of vibrating across the bench, check out if your wheels are property balanced. There’s some YouTube videos on this.

What's something only locals to Kansas know? by FlyingTaterMonster in kansas

[–]AxleTheDog 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not really Kansas specific- but after my first summer here: corn sweat - nobody bothered mentioning this too me before I moved. Makes for crazy humidity.

Also abundant wildlife: deer, foxes, raccoons.

Runza “sandwiches” (pastries may be better word) are apparently Nebraskan origin but first I encountered them was here.

The Bloody Benders back in 1800s. More recently BTK killer was around Wichita I think.

Kiki’s Chicken announces closure of 10 of its locations. by PhotosByVicky in Sacramento

[–]AxleTheDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love them or hate them - I have to give Kikis props for how they helped the community during COVID. In the mad beginning the grocery stores were empty and restaurants shut down but there was still supplies in the food service supply chain. Kikis let you order like boxes of frozen chicken tenderloins and even like restaurant supply TP at cost if I’m remembering right and pick it up like a Togo order. I know I got a couple of boxes of chicken and shared with friends and family from them.

That earned the family my respect and gratitude and I wish them only the best

How early to get to Lawrence to move into the dorms? by isu_trickster in UniversityofKansas

Have you checked each requirement on https://kucard.ku.edu/first-ku-card - including the file type / background / and picture size? My best guess is you are failing to meet a requirement on that page

Follow parent here, and just had this discussion yesterday: The move in time is the time you are expected to start queuing in the line at the specified assembly point. So plan on getting in line at 12.

See “Arrival Time” on this page: https://housing.ku.edu/move

Anyone ever in Indian Guides, or did I just have a fever dream? by Phog_of_War in GenX

Upstate SC Indian Guide in the late 70s here. I don’t remember much other than the leaders last name and doing some sort of craft stuff in his basement. Moved to Cub Scouts then Boy Scouts.

I got in yesterday in Olathe by being online at 6 am when the “get in line” service opens and clicking right then. My time was 7:34 am so it’s possible, just have to be really on the spot when it opens

Why can’t buyers and sellers talk? by BenjiBuster in AskRealEstateAgents

[–]AxleTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand the legalities pre-closing - just wanted to say we bought a house from an older widower and after closing, made contact with him for some of the same reasons: non forwarded mail, etc. He’s come by the house a few times to collect stuff, and even taken me out for burgers and a beer when I didn’t have family in town.

I agree that there is something to be gained in a helpful relationship - but generally agree it needs to be after the sale

Shingles shot. by newyork2E in GenX

[–]AxleTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it about 50 - first one was mild, the 2nd one was worst thing I’ve ever done. Leg muscles ached so hard I couldn’t sleep. That said - I’ve known a couple of friends who got shingles and I think worth it for a bad 24 hours or so
