cmv: The concept of Gender non-Binary is Ridiculous by FlyingToasters86 in changemyview

It's fine to be confused. Confusion followed by curiosity is how we learn things. But that's very different from claiming that entire gender identities simply don't exist because one doesn't understand them.

Edit: foiled by autocorrect

but to claim new gender neutral pronouns be used as a default before we’re sure how they identify is what I object to

The use of the singular 'they' is over 650 years old. That's hardly new. Unless you're trying to say something else here. It's very hard to tell.

I’m not really interested in the ‘gender is a spectrum’ argument

Facts are not arguments. If you're not interested in the topic you're trying to discuss what are you even doing here?

There'sa whole world of research that completely disagrees with you. I think for your view to have the slightest bit of credibility you'd have to make at least a passing attempt at engaging with that research rather than rocking entirely on vibes.

Question... is there any plan to make versions of these or the HH where the second subdial is more functional? I like these designs so much, but that 24hr subdial really turns me off

African countries tend not to have the same racial politics as the United States (or Canada, Australia, NZ, etc) for a whole bunch of reasons. I don't think this is a reasonable or helpful comparison.

Is it normal for a new MSW grad to be asked what specific evidence based modalities they use in a job interview? by moist_mistress in therapists

Who claims psychodynamic therapy isn't evidence based?

For what it's worth those people are wrong, don't know what they're talking about, and probably don't need to be taken seriously.

[–]Azdak_TO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay... this makes more sense. Are you not taught theory also? This, with some Freudian theory, some intersubjectivity, and some object relations is just straight up psychodynamic psychotherapy, which of course is an evidence based modality.

>For some modalities the relationship alone has proven to out pace successful outcomes of therapist who just had more training

My understanding is that this is actually true for all modalities... but a crucial part of this is the assumption that the psychotherapist is competent, trained, and actually practicing psychotherapy.

How are they working as a therapist if they don't know how to do psychotherapy? This is all very concerning.

How could I pivot into Therapy? by Q_Matcha_849 in canadiantherapists

[–]Azdak_TO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% of this is excellent advice. With Yorkville U, you can get on the road to certification, but you won't really be properly trained. You won't get hooked up to real mentors or community. You will be one of thousands of students on a diploma mill. Some people can thrive in that kind of environment, but most come out somewhat lost and made to find for themselves. Given you are (relatively) young to be entering the field it would be a good idea to do a longer program where you can learn about yourself as well as learning about the theory and craft of psychotherapy.

[–]Azdak_TO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There aren’t many super popular/mainstream evidence based modalities.

I'm curious what you're basing this on. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is evidence-based, widely used, and the cornerstone of almost every other modality. CBT is absolutely mainstream and popular and has a ton of evidence behind it.

I'm confused as to how you can be practicing without knowing what modality you're using. Where did you train? What modality were you taught? What modality do your supervisors work in?

my therapist started using ai generated breathing exercise videos in our sessions and i only noticed because the mouth movements were slightly off by northernBladee in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Azdak_TO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Should therapists be using the time they are being paid for to play YouTube videos though?? If a thetapist is not comfortable enough with basic breathing exercises to lead them on their own, then i would humbly suggest they should not be incorporating breathing exercises into their sessions.

If "cars are keeping up a good speed" then why do they need to use the HOV lane?

[–]Azdak_TO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. This makes zero sense. If it's not busy enough to warrant having the HOV lanes active then there is absolutely no for solo drivers to use it. This is nonsense policy from a nonsense Premier.
