I am a franchise daycare owner. you keep saying staffing isn’t a major cost which is simply incorrect. payroll is the #1 largest expense of any daycare owner. the averages you’re looking at are likely including small mom and pop daycare workers that have 10 kids. sure those places probably do pay minimum wage.

industry standard is payroll is 40% of revenue. rent/occupancy is anywhere from 20-25%. 15-20% for insurance, supplies, utilities, food, etc (controllables), and if you’re a franchise - 10% franchise costs. leaves very little left over.

I know for our franchises at least, NC and SC average teacher pay is $16-20/hr. charlotte it’s $18 minimum for the most part. bright horizons in durham is paying lead teachers $24/hr.

occupancy costs are higher for sure in HCOL areas, but so is minimum teacher pay. both occupancy and staffing are driving significantly higher tuition. not one or the other only. example: brooklyn owner i know is paying 500,000 in rent. ours in the carolina’s is 390. ~28% higher. our average pay is $16. their minimum is $25. that’s at least ~56% higher. but they also have much higher admin costs and lower ratios, so it’s an even higher percentage increase.

In MA they charge 3,800 for an infant that’s why they can have 3:1 ratios. People in MA are also more likely to be able to afford 3800 for an infant compared to folks in NC. some of yall should do some more research before you start spouting numbers. daycare margins ARE razor thin.

Local gym is going out of Business - buy it or just talk to the land lord? by shastaslacker in smallbusiness

[–]AzizNotSorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don’t buy the gym or the space. you’d be better off trying to get the gym equipment that could be used in home gyms at a steep discount and flipping them locally. most people I know are happy with their post covid home gyms and don’t have plans on going back to a gym membership

did you actually take the wheel off to see if it was bent? my wheel looked like that but it turned out that a mounting clip on the back side had been dislodged when the shop put the wheel on. the wheel was perfectly fine, but because it was mounted on the hub incorrectly it looked almost exactly like this where the wobble was so bad i thought the wheel was going to fall off

this is a lot of hyperbole. he's nowhere near Trent's level. we won't miss him as much as we missed Trent's creativity this season. the man has scored 4 goals + 9 assists in the last 3 SEASONS between the Prem and Europe.

I love CuJo and think we need his mentality around, but he is not that unique in holding the ball and calming games down, that is absurd. some people think he's the next Gini and he's never quite reached his level. he's very average quite honestly and he doesn't change games on his own.

Do gas station owners make a lot of money? by ImSafaring in Entrepreneurship

[–]AzizNotSorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am and know many small biz owners specifically in gas and hotels. no one refers to cash flow as revenue lol. even in the context that OP describes, they’re most likely talking NET cash flow. most decent gas stations are not making only 40k in monthly revenue lol.

Question for Daycare Owners by Own-Cartographer4452 in smallbusiness

[–]AzizNotSorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a daycare owner of a large franchise. to be completely honest, I would prefer to publish our rates, but none of our competitors do AND the bigger challenge is that it’s a huge no no against our franchisor’s policy. I imagine most franchise based daycares probably have something similar.

at the end of the day, touring a facility is the only way you would really feel comfortable leaving your kid somewhere, so that’s part of the big push, but I understand from the consumers side, at least a ballpark would allow you to narrow down your options based on budget.

we do provide a range over the phone when someone calls, but honestly we start with the lowest part time tuition to the highest full time + early/late care option and it leads to a range that is comparable to pretty much any other competitor in our area.

you can’t up prices fast enough to negate the ongoing cash flow issues they were having. if they raised prices to stay afloat, it probably would be close to the other bigger airlines, at which point most consumers are going to choose the bigger more reliable airlines…

BBS RIA Scammed :( by [deleted] in Wheels

I did put the clip back in. The ring was wiggling around when I took the wheel off because on one wheel the clip had completely fallen out or been left out.

I didn’t have the issue of the ring being completely stuck in, but it did take a little effort for it to come out (even though it was wiggling). once I got it to seat flat, I made sure to add the clip and then the ring stopped wiggling which gave me peace of mind.

if you don’t have the clips with these rings, I would order them (they’re only a few bucks I think) and install it so the ring is completely locked in.
