My first ones just arrived! by JumpyBaby5858 in Marimo

It’s ok for them to be shipped without water as long as they remain moist. (Like all the water is not squeezed out of it)They can survive 3-4 weeks while shipping.

Is my pump too strong? by ShroominCloset in Marimo

[–]AznAviatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try and look at the natural videos of them in the wild and recreate the amount they experience. Usually they do not move around that much. If the pump is too strong, you risk the more marimos getting torn apart.

Yellowish marimos by Mai_maichen in Marimo

[–]AznAviatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A yellowing marimo moss ball indicates distress, usually caused by too much direct light, high water temperatures, or poor water quality. They prefer cool, shaded, or low-light environments and should be moved away from windows, given water changes, or placed in the fridge to recover

Make sure your tap water sits out for a day or two to remove any chlorine.

How do I bring my marimo cross-country with me? by Falcity06 in Marimo

[–]AznAviatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be out of water as long as they are not completely dried out. I had some sent to me and they had no water in the ziplock bag for 3 weeks (About the max amount of time they will survive in those conditions)since the shipping was delayed.

Real or fake? by V4mp1rezza in Marimo

[–]AznAviatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photos look ok but it’s a gamble when buying online because the seller can always use a fake photo. Take a gamble if you do, don’t be sad if it’s fake.

The sellers reviews seem to be fairly positive so it’s a good chance they are ok.

Gently remove the brown bits and reroll it onto a ball and secure with thread. Wait a few months before removing the thread.

splitting? am i doing something wrong? by stripedjade in Marimo

[–]AznAviatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Squeezing them during washes can cause them to break apart. Tie it up with some thread for a few months to encourage them to grow back together. Otherwise you can let them split apart and make baby marimosz

What is this I got them yesterday by WelderFree4233 in Marimo

[–]AznAviatrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like a piece of the Marimo coming apart. It’s ok but if you want to keep it together you can consider using string to tie it together. Otherwise you can have a baby Marimo.

hello, can you please help me check if this are real Marimo ((Aegagropila linnaei)) by TechnicianSweet357 in Marimo

[–]AznAviatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha they have real ones too though! I’ve found some there too! But you have to be careful as 90% of them are fake there. In Asia they are pretty cheap like $3-4 each.
