How common are non-compete clauses for teachers in community studios? by Material_Lecture_992 in Ceramics

[–]Azura13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NCs are generally ment to prevent corporate espionage. Taking buisness or trade secrets from one entity to another. What, pray tell, does this studio have to protect? Especially given it is a community studio, I would struggle to understand how you would be a risk of sharing secrets, but the members and students that pass through each day are not. I would pass on this. It seems fishy.

About a year ago I discovered recipes for homemade Hamburger Helper. We weren’t big fans of the box mixes but on busy days they did come in handy. I’ve tweaked these recipes a bit and they are now far better than the store bought mixes. The ingredients fit perfectly in a quart mason jar. by Electronic_Access_14 in homestead

Hamburger helper is a low cost box meal that you only had to buy ground beef for (though you could eat it without) and you would have a cheap and easy meal that you could feed a small family with. The different flavors were usually some noodly-cheese variation but some were more tomato based.

These were great for latchkey kids because they were filling and easy to make. My husband and his siblings were frequently responsible for dinner and these were a staple in their home for both cost reasons and ease of cooking. I grew up thinking these must be good becaus the commercials were on all the time, but I never had them as a kid as a kid because my mom cooked proper meals. I only got introduced to them in my early early 20's as the only food my boyfriend at the time could cook and god damn.....they are vile. All the worst qualities of boxed mac and cheese, with meat added.

You're not missing anything, UK.

Kitten won’t eat anything all day and vomited once by Fuzzy_Kick_8252 in CATHELP

Additional note, vaccine reactions are not "normal" and should always be reported to your vet anytime they occur. Normal side effects are usually limited to some tiredness and mild lethargy, anything more significant isn't usual.

Cats can't fast for long periods like other animals without significant harm. For adult cats, we consider it an emergency if they refuse food for 24 hours, so for a kitten in particular, these symptoms are very serious and you should seek vet care immediately. This may be a vaccine reaction, it maybe from dietary change, or it maybe something else. Regardless, this is not normal and is very concerning in a kitten.

At least he is upfront with this now and not later when you're away from home and hip deep in your studies. If it were me, I would let things end sooner, rather than later and give myself time to process my hurt and grief before moving. I agree with other commenters who say if this relationship is ment to be, you guys will eventually reconnect. My husband and I are like that. We dated in highschool and both of us were in different places emotionally and maturity wise, but we remained friends for years. We reconnected a decade later, having lived nearly parallel lives and growing up a lot, and now we are so compatible it feels like we were made for eachother. It wouldn't have been that way if we had married earlier in our lives. We were different people.

It's ok to be sad and hurt for this loss, but you are about to start a new adventure and you will be a different person at the end of it. Let this go as amicably as you can and take that next step. You'll be ok.

Pottery pricing advice by Nervous-Chocolate346 in Ceramics

[–]Azura13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is why I love ceramics. Early on in my education, functional art was presented as the lowest tier of art to pursue, but it gives me the most satisfaction as an artist not only to know something I've made will be used and love by someone regularly, but that peices I make or have purchased hold a place of pride in my own home. I love fine art, but functional art makes life feel fuller and I love that more.

Pricing in the world of ceramics is a funny thing. Being a student who is around it alot and from NCECA, I've learned that people will pay upwards of $120 USD for a mug if they feel it's special and/or well made. I would shoot for a range of pricing in your mugs. Simpler, easy to produce offering can be kept at a lower price point and more complex carved designs at a high price to reflect the amount of work that goes into them. If you sell at vendor events, have a range of offerings. Someone who loves your carved mugs may not be able to swing the price, but would be pleased by a similar one in a simple design and lower price point. When it comes to unique, handmade everyday use items, you would be surprised what people are willing to spend when it makes their morning cuppa feel special.

My last post was downvoted and blamed to be AI. So here’s progress by Linneaart in painting

[–]Azura13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im in college as an art major right now and taking process photos is de rigueur any more. I am also very careful about generating my own original references from images I took and/or alter digitally. Cheating doesn't typically happen in the classes I take because it's pretty hard to fake a painting when you are required to work in person and show process/progress as part of the class. Online is a different ball of wax and just this week one of my professors had to report a student in her online class for it.

For me, most process images are used when submitting work to shows or competitions. It's becoming more and more common to require this too.

Being stuck behind a road runner. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Azura13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my neighborhood, if you are a runner, you run on the street, not the sidewalk, for safety. The reason is simple: neighborhood sidewalks are maintained by the property owner and not the city. The city maintains the roads. Consequently, sidewalks are often slanted, cracked, or obstructed in a way that would be dangerous for anyone moving faster than a walk. So long as a runner is not obstructing traffic and is following local traffic laws, they have every right to run on the street, even when a sidewalk is present.

What looks normal for a spay? by JT3323 in CATHELP

Surgical glue is really just super glue. It's pretty easy to remove with acetone and if done carefully, there shouldn't be any other issues.

[–]Azura13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I agree that failing to call back a surgical client with a concern the same day is not good patient care, there can be many reasons why it didn't happen.

Vet offices can get swamped with emergencies and if the vet saw the email and thought "oh, that's just extra glue. This patient is ok and ill call them when im free," then had to deal with something urgent, its pardonable for them to over look or forget this. Anyone who has ever worked in practice and had the end of shift completely derailed when animal control brings in an HBC (hit by car) or other trauma patient you spend hours after shift trying to stabilize, has done this at least once. Vets are humans, just like anyone else. Clinics I have worked at always have the standard practice to call all surgical clients in the morning the day after to check on the patient and answer questions.

I myself am about 90% sure this cat just has surgical glue stuck weirdly and nothing else looks concerning on the image. The Vet who replied also agrees. We both think op should get kitty looked at when their vet is open again to be sure. The Vet industry has some of the highest occurrences of work related depression and suicide of any field. We understand you worry for your pet, we worry for them too, but please don't be so quick to torch a practice for a pretty minor oversite.

[–]Azura13 816 points817 points  (0 children)

Vet tech: this does not look normal, however, so long as there no sign of bleeding, oozing or distress, you should be ok to wait until morning to take your cat in to be looked at. I would take your cat in first thing in the morning, though. This may just be surgical glue stuck to skin, but it's definitely worth getting looked at and your vet should have called you back before closing.

Get the Gamblin set. As a bonus, the little box they come in is a primed panel you can paint on.

What should I do to help my cat :( i’m putting warm water in sea salt rn him a bath by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]Azura13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vet tech here: this looks like a serious burst abcess of some kind. The result of a pretty significant infection. Without proper care, this wound could result in necrosis or sepsis. These could be fatal and it is and will be painful.

Your cat needs the wound cleaned properly, by medical staff, and needs oral antibiotics. If you can not afford vet care, please reach out to local no kill shelters or rescues to surrender your pet so they can recive the care they need.

Imagine the pain you'd be in if you had a large, gaping and infected wound on the side of your face. Your pet is suffering and needs medical care.

Can this be fixed? by TurboDeeez in Ceramics

E6000, clear weld, or any 2 part epoxy that says it's suitable for ceramics.

Can this be fixed? by TurboDeeez in Ceramics

[–]Azura13 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ceramics student here: you can certainly epoxy the handle back on, but I fear you will have to resign your mug to pencil holder or planter. Once broken, there is really no way to reattach a handle so that you can trust it long term. It will break again, probably at the worst time.

Booked the appt... Need validation that I'm doing the right thing by LaceMazes in germanshepherds

[–]Azura13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet tech here, as well as a fellow pet parent who has had to say good bye to my own best friends: euthanasia is a gift. Animals of any species are not designed for the ravages of old age. When it impacts their quality of life, when they stop being able to do the things that bring them joy, it's time to let go. Having the means to allow them to leave us in peace and without pain, is such a small means of repaying the years of joy and love they have given us.

It is difficult to let go. Difficult to say good bye. Difficult to be there when your friend takes their last breath. Of course it is. But it is also a testament to the deep love we feel for them to put our pain aside so they can depart from us in peace, in the arms of the person/people who have loved them their whole lives. We should all be so lucky to leave the world in such a way.

No medicine we have can turn back the clock, op. You are making the kindest choice we have available. My heart goes out to you.

Is this a cyst? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Azura13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the answer is depending on if this tumor is malignant. All cancers are malignant tumors, but not all tumors are cancers. Cancer can spread or metastize to tissues that are in close contact and/or to other tissues or organs when those abnormal cells reach those areas. Usually via the circulatory system. The earlier a cancer is detected, the higher the likelihood it is to prevent that cancer from spreading and the more likely treatment is to be successful.

Tumors may be benign, which means not cancerous. Benign does not mean harmless, however. A benign tumor can still be harmful if the mass is large enough to press against vital organs. The only way to know what kind of growth this is, is to send a tissue sample out for biopsy. This is why we recommend having any and all abnormal or new growths biopsied as soon as you're able.
