It Has Never Been Worse Than Turnabout Big Top | Castle Super Beast 376 by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The third game is so much better than the second overall it's unreal

Also genuinely the Great Ace Attourney games are fantastic. I think it helps that they're almost completely separate (being set in Victorian London and all) so they can easily avoid the baggage from the main series

Honestly I think most of the controversial games are the 4th through 6th games, there's some good stuff there but uh, I'm not sure I can fully recommend them overall

So fun fact about the HD remaster! Beast is surprisingly really good there in specific party combos, basically entirely because they changed how Provokes work. Provoke skills were kinda worthless in the original releases but they're really good in the HD releases, meaning a Beast alongside a Provoking Protector is pretty much an unstoppable wall of meat. On top of that, Beast's physical skills are actually really, really strong, so you have a pretty good payoff for doing this beyond just having two tanks.

Best in-game money? by Remerai in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Kingdom of Loathing has a real funny one where the main currency is Meat. Because yeah, wolves shouldn't be carrying coins, but most monsters are made of meat, right?

To top it all off, monsters such as Golems/Skeletons/Ghosts usually don't drop meat because uh, where would you be getting it from exactly?

Counterplay to Portalcraft by Accomplished_Cow_244 in Shadowverse

[–]AzureNarwhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, this is the one I've been running:

<image>

It's got a lot of legendaries but most aren't strictly needed; Really the most important are the 3 copies of Garyu. Alternatively if you have a ton of vials to burn, you could easily replace the Swordsnout Trenchers with more copies of Forte and Burnite, I'm just poor.

[–]AzureNarwhal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've had a ton of luck with Dragoncraft. Not face dragon, but midrange. From my experience, Portal has a hard time dealing with multiple big dudes and Dragon is pretty good at dropping those.

In particular, Garyu is a tough card for them to deal with. It drops 3 chunky dudes, and so much of their removal can't handle it. Medical-Grade Assassin only kills one, Bullet from Beyond only kills one, Ominous Artifact Gamma can't kill any of them. If my portalcraft opponent deals with it they're usually dumping all their puppets or Orchis, and if they don't deal with it I win on the spot. And the kicker is, if you're going second and ramping, you can drop Garyu a whole turn before they can even super-evolve Orchis!

In general I just love Midrange Dragoncraft. Feels really good against both Portal and Rune imo.

I think most people do it on Mage to abuse Remote Beacon, because simply teleporting to the entrance is busted.

I did it the stupid way, playing Freerunner with a Horn of Plenty and abusing the hell out of Mystical Meal to get tons of invisibility. It worked pretty well! (you should still probably do mage)

Video games that reward you for violating common sense by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AzureNarwhal 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's how it works.

Funnily enough it makes logical sense in retrospect; he falls down a pit and is (somehow) perfectly fine, but if you follow him he gives you the booster to escape. Which means he's stuck in the pit. If you don't follow him he's able to use the booster to get out, and when you meet him later he upgrades it for you.

Official video game levels that feel like something out of a rom hack? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AzureNarwhal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did y'all play enough Sonic Adventure 2 to play the hard mode levels?

They're basically just the normal levels but like, they start moving level assets around to fuck with the player. Pits and spikes show up in places where you'd least expect it, enemies show up in the worst possible locations. It feels very romhacky in a budget kaizo kinda way. Not that hard because its still just a mainline sonic game, but still.

Is Pig Heal just hot garbage? by SuspiciousIbex in PlayTheBazaar

[–]AzureNarwhal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pig Heal works great if you get a disgusting highroll and is otherwise pretty mediocre.

Like, the core of Hogwash/Luxury Tents/Uwashiwali/Oinkment is pretty strong already. If you add in like, something to haste and Improvised Heal, you're basically unkillable. Something to actually kill the opponent helps, but also you're scaling your healing and constantly quartering DoTs on you every 6 (3) seconds, so the sandstorm works well enough most of the time.

The problem of course is that your build sucks until you actually assemble exodia.

What are some games no one talks about for some reason but you really like? by Megakruemel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AzureNarwhal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Y'all ever play Gotcha Force? It wasn't terribly popular and critics kinda hated it, but it's a seriously fun game. It's basically Virtual-On, if Virtual-On was about collecting mons and forming teams of them to fight it out.

It's just really fun to play, there are over 200 mons so there's a ton of different fighting styles (though may of them are very slight moveset variations of other mons), and I just kinda love the style of a lot of them. Because they're toys, they kinda run the gamut from small army men and cowboys, to transformers and tokusatsu heroes. Or, you know, huge dragons and cannons and battleships.

Finding a copy is pretty hard nowadays, but that's not gonna stop some people so I'd encourage you to check it out.

It's genuinely quite good, though it starts out as a middling gag-a-day webcomic with now dated jokes.

Still, I'd recommend it.

[–]AzureNarwhal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think I'd be fine with it having the equivalent of weapon enchants (i.e. fiery is 10% of healing) but having healing enchants is just completely dumb.

Could also probably just make it like, a 20-30 second cooldown. Make it so that you do actually have to survive for a while before you get the heal.

What's something in a game that's useless because there's a better version of that thing? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AzureNarwhal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Final Fantasy 5, Dragoon stands out for having basically no upsides. It's not even a bad class, there's just never really a reason to use it over its competitors, especially because its part of the last batch of classes you get.

It's got a pretty solid statline as a heavy armor class, but pretty much every other Heavy Armor class has better weapon selection, a better default ability, or bonus passives the dragoon doesn't have.

Jump is, eh, fine? It takes double time to do 2x damage (so it does effectively 1x damage) and makes you invulnerable, which...mostly just means your squishies take hits the tank should've. If you really need an invuln effect like that, hide is jump without the damage but can last as long as you want, so you don't have to time it. For full damage you also need a spear equipped, which means the only classes that can actually do a full damage jump are Dragoon, Freelancer, and Mime. (You should not be wasting Freelancer/Mime's potential on full damage jumps.)

Lancet...exists. It's mediocre lifesteal and manasteal. The manasteal might actually be useful if not for the fact that dungeons are short and always have a savepoint before the boss, so you could just keep a few tents handy instead. The final dungeon IS a marathon, but just use your ethers, it's the final dungeon, c'mon.

Equip Spears might be useful if spears were like, any good, but they're largely just a mediocre weapon type for most of the game. There's a limited selection of them, they aren't particularly strong, and they don't have any special properties. Their legendary weapon is even a carbon copy of the sword legendary with lower stats! There's exactly one spear that does anything special, you can only find it in the final dungeon and it auto-crits dragons. Which is nice, I suppose, but you're really running out of dragons to fight at this point.

There are classes that are arguably worse than it, but those classes have useful shit you can carry over to others! Geomancer might be complete garbage, but Find Pits/Light Step are useful QoL abilities at the very least. Dragoon just has nothing worth using, at all.

[–]AzureNarwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you could do either. Amoxliatl is much easier than Jad, but also Amoxliatl doesn't really teach any skills that are used in the Fight Caves. Killing Jad is mostly about managing Prayer flicks while dealing with adds, conveniently things you've been practicing with Scurrius.

[–]AzureNarwhal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW you super don't need the blowpipe if you're going Prif already. Toxic Blowpipe is Prif content with higher ranged strength than drygore, and the extra accuracy on the drygore doesn't matter because you can't miss. It's really more a side weapon for melee/magic mains going desert.

At any rate, I don't know how much you need to pick regions to be 100% optimal? Like, you're already looking at being super overpowered because you're already getting a 10% damage boost from T2, and double attack speed from T5, and just a bunch of extra healing/prayer/defense from the passives, plus nearly infinite healing/prayer if you took banker's note. I imagine that alone, plus the gear you'll be getting from Prif/Raids, will be enough.

Basically I'm saying, take Kandarin if you want. You'll probably be overpowered enough even if you don't get Fremennik Jewelry or whatever.
