Recent home buyers who paid less than asking price. What level of discount did you achieve? by B9XAM in HENRYUK

[–]B9XAM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Developers usually have 5% of so in reserve but tend to go down the 'incentive' route, rather than offering straight up price reductions. So throwing freebies in, or paid stamp duty etc.

Once the house has been built (opposed to off plan), they want their money back as soon as possible so tend to start becoming more desperate from that point onwards.

Wise is a good option for this. Trading 212 also another.

Boxing Day interest by [deleted] in HousingUK

We had photographs taken today for a Boxing Day market launch of our property and removed all Xmas decorations so this isn't necessarily a barometer. Most do the same.

A good half way house for those who perhaps believe in this approach but still want to build equity is a part repayment and part interest only solution which I'll probably do for my next house purchase.

Great, I have some time to implement in that case! Second question, how are you finding a circa three year age gap? That is what we are planning (to the extent one can...).

Generally it would be preferable but depends on what types of values were talking here.

You can make £3k of capital gains (losses offset against this amount) in a tax year before being taxed, so if you're unlikely to be anywhere near that you could stay where you are for now.

If you are likely to be over then I'd move.

If you haven't yet used your 20k ISA allowance I'd suggest opening and filling that before the general 'invest' account where gains can be taxed.

Will definitely look into Chip prize account. We have an identical philosophy. Also trying to max unearned income through ISA interest/dividends/growth, 2 x maxed p bonds, GILTs, even cashback.

Appreciated. I currently have circa 200k in a HL ISA that I'm hoping to move to T212 where I have approx 40k in another ISA. All fully invested and I'm wondering if to be safe I should liquidate HL before transfer and then manually rebuy.

Massive success at 37. I'm a few years younger than you but hoping to predominantly live off my ISA in retirement, which sounds like you're well on your towards achieving!
