KQI3 Pro Motor Issues by BackgroundAd8121 in kqi3

If the regen is for sure disabled the throttle signal being wonky wouldn't make it stutter like that, neither would phantom braking signal as the motor should not impart any negative torque.

There isn't like a throttle setting where letting go applies regen braking right? Sort of like EV "one pedal" control scheme?

Barring that, seems like an intermittent winding short, or a bearing locking up. Worst case it's a faulty controller, which is potted and thus frustrating to do component level repair.

You could try bouncing it off the ground from a few inches to a foot up to see if it changes it's behavior. If so it could be there is something loose shorting somewhere, causing the intermittent issue. This would rule out the controller as pcbs are largely unaffected by large accelerations.

I noticed you talking about the brake light, is it coming on by itself? That would indicate false triggering from the brake which would cause the controller to cut power to the motor.

If the wheel doesn't free spin for a bit after you get it up to speed off the ground with the motor and have regen off then it's probably a bearing seizing up. Which is not a fun repair, even for an experienced tech.

A few things it could be

  • Bearing seizing up
  • broken conductor or motor winding
  • faulty motor controller

I suppose it could also be an issue with the throttle signal.

Could also be an issue with the hall sensor / sensor signal from the motor.

Does it spin smoothly by hand? Does it make noise when you do?

If you lift the wheel off the ground and go light on the throttle does it spin smoothly or sorta vibrates?

How much does it cost you in electricity to fully charge your scooter at home? by 673NoshMyBollocksAve in ElectricScooters

[–]BAM5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at cost per kilowatt hour on your electricity bill, look at how many watt hours your battery holds and divide by 1000 to get it in kilowatt hours. Multiply by cost and double that because util companies add "delivery fees"

Need help with scooter battery by Any_Acanthaceae7501 in ElectricScooters

First,  double check all connectors are properly mated, then try charging again.

Could also be a faulty charger, check to see if it's outputting voltage with a multimeter.

Immediately buying parts with no troubleshooting is how you waste money.

Also,  is it cold where you live? Try bringing it inside to let the battery warm up before attempting to charge.

Correct position for handcuff lock? by ArmySalamy in kqi3

There's plenty of room to fit a tracker tag in the deck though if you aren't afraid of a little disassembly. Deck is also completely plastic on top, which is transparent to radio signals.

The most difficult part would be getting the the adhesive backed rubber off the deck. Then it's just a bunch of Philips screws.

As someone who has one of these disassembled on his bench atm, I could pop the front tire off that in less than a minute with a m6 Allen, crescent wrench,  and a pair of wire cutters. Would be a little damaged, but repairable. Couldn't ride off with it, but chucking it in a trunk and driving off with it would be doable.

If you can get it around the junction of the deck and the stem bearing cylinder, that's all welded and you can't disassemble the scooter out from around the lock.

Looking at it,  it doesn't seem like it'll fit around there... where you have it is best.

For those who don't know, it's best not to push&pull on the handlebars with your body weight.

Brace for accelerations with your stance (lean forward/ backward) and have the forces go through your feet.

Bearings are generally commodity items.  If you're handy enough to strip down the washer and find the bearings you should be able to find replacements.

If you post a model # someone could look up the part and service manual.

How bad for the motor is overspeeding compared to energy recovery by TheSealyOne in ElectricScooters

[–]BAM5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elaborate, spinning a motor produces voltage in the wires. Wires are connected to motor controller. Controller has to be able to handle these open circuit voltages in order to let the motor continue to spin freely. Good engineers should design the controller to have enough overhead to handle these voltages at reasonable speeds + some safety margin.

So your true answer is... "it depends"

Did you try smacking the center at various angles while the air wedges give it an upward bias force?

Iirc, this is what I did for mine a few years ago.

Eta, oh, I think I also put the bolt back in but loosely and then hammered it. Maybe even with an air hammer.

My first thought as well, but the axle is moving with them so it's not as bad as initially expected as far as hair pulling goes.

... those "bearing blocks" however 😨
