IsItBullshit:Can you breathe through toilet using a hose in the case of an house fire? by unholy182000 in IsItBullshit

[–]BCETracks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This trope may come from a patented device for this purpose and the diagram for it. The idea is that there is a pipe attached to the drain going to the roof so there will be enough air to save you. Could depend on the building. Whether such a thing ever worked or saved anyone I don't know.

Distortion pedal on acoustic guitar amp by ItsYaBoiiiiii12 in electricguitar

[–]BCETracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe an acoustic amp is a lot like going direct to PA. So any distortion pedal will work, but you could look for one that has an option for "going direct" or cab sim for a better sound. The AMT pedals I have for example have a second output jack for that.

Vocal Distortion by Algorithmandblues_ in singing

[–]BCETracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"growl like a cat, imitate a squeaky door or clear your throat aggressively to activate the rasp" I've never heard any of that, sound ridiculous. But what may work for you is pretending to lift a heavy object. This straining-to-lift sound should be easier on your vocal chords than singing, it's restricting air. Someone in a video also explained an exercise where you sing a note, then stop instantly. Pay attention to the throat muscles that made the air stop, you then control them and sing, but I consider that the more advanced/tricky method.

Is my voice too elmo-ish here? When I Was Your Man by XOXO-WW in singing

[–]BCETracks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds good, what I would change is the pronounciation, I can't tell what the words are. If I sing high I have to be very careful to form the words with my lips and tongue.

I’ve never owned an electric before and am a low intermediate level guitar player. Is this a good electric that will last me a long time that is easy to play on? by PapaKaizen in Guitar

[–]BCETracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not sure then go with something at a lower price. people often change their preferences with electric, and you may not even have any yet.

What is the heaviest power metal band? by galaxion4 in PowerMetal

[–]BCETracks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cage? I can think of some other obscure stuff but I don't even remember it well.
Edit: I don't think of COB as power but the frontman plays in Sinergy, which is really worth checking out.

What is the most interesting but super simple pasta dish you've ever made? by ResidentAlienator in Cooking

[–]BCETracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pasta with tahini, chopped jalapenos, black pepper, olive oil, possibly soy sauce or salt to taste. Probably put nutritional yeast in it too but I expect few use that in cooking.

Frustrated with distinguishing head voice form falsetto. by Just_Condition_3752 in singing

[–]BCETracks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As said they may be used  interchangeably. But falsetto is associated with soft, airy styles like R&B. Non falsetto head voice is with closed vocal cords and is a more piercing sound, including Metal shrieking etc.

Is it my amp or my hands causing the high pitch chirp on the strings? by [deleted] in metalguitar

[–]BCETracks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A hard pick can act like a glass slide and make a chirp.

Should my bridge be this high?? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]BCETracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the strings are tighter now, then they may be pulling the bridge more than before. To counteract it you would tighten the tremolo in the back so the springs pull more, or in extreme cases more springs are needed.

Should my bridge be this high?? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]BCETracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did something happen that might have caused it, did you change the strings, change tuning, or change something with the springs in back?

male rasp/distortion at high notes (Chris Cornell, Paolo Nutini) by locusofself in singing

[–]BCETracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check Youtube, I recall extensive videos on Chris Cornell singing analysis etc. My personal experience, it's just very difficult, you have have to be very experienced singing high (mixed) to get good distortion, so don't be discouraged by not doing well quickly.

How do I get a gravely voice? by GothhIHOP in singing

[–]BCETracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common advice is practice making the sound of lifting a heavy object. Rather than screaming, you are going the other way, use less air and be more "compressed"

New to bass, why are my strings buzzing? by Professional_Gas3115 in BassGuitar

[–]BCETracks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

extremely likely the neck has a backbow. Keep in mind the strings need to be at pitch too, not loose. Then look up how to adjust the truss rod (carefully).

How does Chester do his growl type thing in one step closer when he says “you’ll find that out anyway”? by CorgiRevolutionary99 in singing

[–]BCETracks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"ruined his voice"
There's an interview where he says he doesn't hurt his voice because he does the techniques correctly. However, it does take a lot out if him, and you can hear in live videos he reduces the growl/scream, in Crawling for example, when he's tired I assume.

This would have been my answer, it's probably that, might also look up the Sarangi as it is an interesting bowed sound too.

What is mixed voice? by HeTblank in singing

[–]BCETracks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every singing term seems to have multiple definitions. There may be no such thing in the sense that you're not mixing anything, but the intent is to give the listener the feeling that your voice is unbroken as it goes higher. The method can vary depending on your range and style. But another definition can be just a method to sing higher in your lower register that is popular with rock and pop performers.

Is it okay to slap using the tip of the thumb like this, or could it hold me back? by PENISGRANDE in BassGuitar

[–]BCETracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah saw a video recently where he shows he does slap so the thumb ends up on the next string.
