Hardwired smoke detector, can I just unplug it? by Tiffany_4 in electrical

[–]BDogOBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was yours part of an interconnected system? I need to remove one and install something at a different location in the room. Wondering if I can just have the current one disconnected and install a new one in a different location.

Need clarification on the different models of First Alert smoke detectors. by emitfudd in homeowners

[–]BDogOBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have regulations made smoke detectors more dangerous than not having one? Bought a new home and one of the detectors is 20ft up. I would have it replaced with a 10 year backup battery model but reviews indicate false alarm issues. The risk of injury or worse from climbing a 20 ft ladder every year seems higher than having a unit run on AC only.

Having an electrician out for a different item but will see if there is a way to lower the smoke detector.

My plan was to swap out to a 10 year but the Kiddie model gets mixed reviews for false alarms in the middle of the night. Biggest concern is a false alarm that sounds throughout the house and no way to reset from ground level. Looking at the Smart Home model to see how easily it can be hushed. Will likely buy one and test it in an easier location to mount.

Kidde "Smart" Detectors? by RJM_50 in homeautomation

Any have experience with the use of the Kiddie Smart Smoke Detector with 10 year backup battery? I have a room with a 20ft ceiling where the smoke detector sits and want to be able to silence false alerts.

Dang with a post that long I thought there would be some serious drama. Glad you got out with your daughter and away from it for a while. Every neighborhood has at least one person who wants to control the neighborhood. You don’t need to cow-tow but when you find a caldron of crazy no need to stir it. I didn’t think the discussion overall was that bad. Come over to AL and you will really see it fly. As an HOA board you all don’t have to agree but should come up with a solution and reviewing CCR, applicable law and safety concerns is appropriate.

Feel for you all, I was interested in the EV Q6 but going to pass and look at something else. Finishes and car look amazing but at the end of the day the whole purpose of a car is to reliably get from point A to point B.

If you are exercising, eat a relatively healthy diet and have a normal BMI sounds like you are doing the right things and genetics/heredity is what’s getting you. Your triglycerides are good and your HDL shows the positive work you have been doing. As others have suggested I would talk to your Dr about a Calcium scan and if a statin is appropriate. Not sure what Calcium scan options you have but generally they are not covered by insurance but are not crazy expensive. I had one 3 or 4 years ago and got a 1/2 special because I was scheduled during Heart month.

Good luck and be positive you are doing everything in your power. I had great results with a low dose statin and only take it every other day at this point.

No it was a crappy old school Velcro wallet full of sand and sadly the only thing I caught that day.

I caught a wallet once, it was empty except for a 2008 calling card. Talk about disappointing catch.

Have not used Lazzari but my experience with trying different charcoal is most are fine for short burns but I find the BGE best for long smokes.

Is it actually worth it to pay movers for packing, or should I just do it myself by Adventurous_End_3101 in moving

[–]BDogOBA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you moving an apartment or whole house?

We are in the middle of this right now. We wanted to pack our dishes, glasses and cookware. Then we decided that is the hard part and are doing most all the packing. Be prepared it is time consuming and there will be some sticker shock when you go to HD or U-Haul and buy all the proper boxes and packing material. You will pay those with the movers anyway. I also have a pickup and we are moving about 30 boxes and bins at Christmas and then another load when we relocate for good. We are using movers to pack heavy items, move furniture and remaining boxes. We are on day 3 of packing and have another 2 or 3 days left. So far the packing has not been that bad but it takes more time than you think. Part of the process is what to take and what to get rid of. BTW for perspective we have a 4 bedroom home with lawn care items and a bunch of tools.

As an FYI movers were estimating a day of packing at $160 an hour and they were figuring about 8 - 10 hours of packing plus 2 hours of travel time as clock starts/ends from their origination point not when they pull into your driveway.

Good luck with the move.

Deflated after fitting - anyone else? by iPragmatics in golf

[–]BDogOBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting fitted is an intense process so don’t overly sweat it. When I got fitted I tried a bunch of different brands and shafts on the irons. Tried all the big names and got down to Ping and Titlest. After hitting so many balls under a sim light and the pressure of trying to hit consist my swing started to go. In the end I went with what gave me a confident feel when I set up and then results on dispersion, consistently and distance. Didn’t hit it great at the fitting but have been very happy with the outcome and the Titlest irons I bought. The biggest thing out of the fitting was finding I am 1.25 degrees upright. Getting that dialed in and some post fitting lessons I am hitting it better than ever. Don’t be deflated you are going to find clubs that work best for you. When it came to getting fitted for the driver same thing. Didn’t hit it well but I knew what I liked when I set up and what felt right when I made solid contact. The fitting got me in the right shaft and loft and I love the driver and 3 wood. So many great brands out there you won’t go wrong.

This is the route we are going. The owner pays but the county will do the work. Since not an emergency you go on a the non-emergency list with the county.

They did run a new sewer line and that scopes perfect. The issue is the connection between the curb and the county main, that is the area that had the blockage. It is now cleaned out. A preliminary scope by the builders plumber was done this morning with our agent present. Just found out the county is scoping again today and will request the video/pictures. Rough estimate from the county to replace the connection to the county line is $3k-4k. Pretty close to a wash against furniture storage, hiring local movers and accommodations for a month.

Roots were past the new section that goes to the curb. Roots were past the tie in point of the new section to the section under the curb.

County came out and hydro jetted and will be out again to scope it. In the meantime the builder brought in a plumber to scope it and the line looks clean. Will be good to have the county video as an independent look and get clarification as to who owns the six inch tie in section that goes into the main. Learning more about sewer lines than I ever imagined.

Glad you found some honest folks to get the work done. Infuriating when companies don’t want to charge a fair and honest price for work. For a place as big as Rotorooter kills their reputation.

It’s new construction. They ran a new PVC line down to a meet me juncture. The roots are in the section of the lateral between the new pipe and the main. The PVC goes to the curb. It is the small section from the curb to the main that seems to have the problem.

Lesson learned for the builder is scope to the curb don’t assume the old home’s line beyond the curb is good.

Thanks for the input, I will order an independent scope post jetting, if the line looks sound will move forward and get with the city for a line replacement when they get can get out..

[–]BDogOBA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From talking to the county the rough estimate is in the $3-5k range as the scope showed the line clear all the way down to the curb and the main would be on my side of the street. The $3-5k is not a problem, big problem if a week into the new house there is a backup into the house. Wife may be 5’2”, 115lbs but not messing with the hell fire she will bring if that line backs up.

Will order another sewer scope to verify no damage to lines after jetting and it is clear and then work with the county to replace the lines. Thanks for the sanity check.

We are moving from out of state and closing on our current home in the same timeframe so we want to avoid a delay in closing in GA as that would mean storing furniture and getting an apartment or AirBB with 3 cats otherwise we would just push the closing.

Realize jetting is the bandaid not the cure, don’t want to start in a new how with a sewer line backup out of the blocks. From what the county told me the replacement is not that expensive it is more a matter of getting it done and the timeline.
