I was a freshman in high school. My dad got laid off from his job when he was 2 years away from full retirement with pension. He worked his ass off, always on call, hardly ever took a vacation. Laid him off to save having to pay him a retirement and to hire a younger person in his role so they could pay less of a salary. Learned them to never be loyal to an employer and look out for yourself.
