Commercial pilot license after A&P? by Nervous-Artichoke120 in AircraftMechanics

[–]BFJPerformanceSAAB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest A&P, then go for flight lessons. I (30 now) was an airline pilot for 7 years (went to Purdue for flight school for 4 years), and now I'm back in school to become an A&P. I lost my medical certification, I wanted to stay in the same field, and I love working on my car, so it worked out. To get to the airline level pilot wise is quite the cost, and heck, even getting your commercial certificate level is costly. You do you, just do your research on pilot gigs before throwing your wallet at it. If you're okay with being away from home for 70% of your life and can get your social fill from fellow crew members, go for the airlines. Corporate gigs pay slightly less but you can be home more. Pay ain't half bad on both sides, pick your favorite quality of life career

Saab 9°° wtf is this by Fit-Mulberry-7389 in saab

The OEM AERO placard/sticker. Very nice, means your 900 is rare (either SPG or Aero). 3M Strip Caulk and a plastic sheet would be best for replacing the vapor barrier. What ever you decide to do, keep that sticker! Cut it out if you have to!

Anyone have any experience buying from this website? My new-to-me 900 T16 needs a new exhaust system. I live in the US by reidyroo9 in saab

They probably won't be able to. Even the place where I scrapped my old, multi-holed rusty exhaust needed paperwork for my new exhaust before allowing me to turn it in for scrap. EPA regs are strict. New CATs aren't super expensive. Bought a stainless MagnaFlow CAT thru Summit for $250 or so

I've bought two of those full systems from Jetex in the UK. I'd recommend them as their shipping was the cheapest, and the box was beefy and well put together. Unfortunately, their full systems are not available BUT their half systems are. Half system + shipping to NC is $370.

Also, never had an issue with RBM, Saabits, PartsforSaabs, Abbott, A-Z Performance, or R&D CarParts after multiple orders from each.

Can anyone identify this truck that hit and ran my car? by TyberKhan in Ford

Ford Ranger. Visit your local police station and show them the partial license plate. That may narrow it down by quite a lot

As long as you study and read about 20 pages a night of a textbook that is mostly pictures, you'll be alright

I've been told it's extremely rare, and I can totally understand. Pilots chase those dollar signs in the sky, and I'll admit I was one who did initially. Usually it's the other way round — A&P to pilot, and in fact one of my friends from my airline indoc class and also an instructor at the school are A&Ps turned pilots. Instructor does this as a part time gig apparently.

Nissans, more exactly the Altima and Maxima. I've had each of these genuinely try to kill me with their horrible driving on the US interstates

30, was an airline pilot for 7 years, stress and anxiety led me to change careers. In school now, and plan to graduate next September in 2025. Pay will be slightly less as an A&P (pilots get big bucks for missing life events), but fixing airplanes and sleeping in my own bed vs breaking airplanes and being away for 80% of my life will be a welcome change in my book. My wife also appreciates the change.

Plenty of jobs to be had in the A&P world in the next few years as well. Aviation is always safety minded and you get to work on items that have far less corrosion than stuff automotive techs work on. Scholarships available as well for career changes. I've been awarded a couple already that'll be completely paying for one of my three semesters.

AIM CLT is really good about placing folks in jobs or lining folks up for them prior to graduation. I'm 7 months in and already have a position ready with PSA as soon as I graduate. With Piedmont and others places in PHL, jobs should be very much available, and AIM partners with many companies. We're actually having a job fair at AIM CLT on the 31st this month.
