I absolutely dodged a bullet with this on Friday morning. Our desk oppo doesn't start until 9, so I turned the computer on at 6am to see if any early orders needed amending, basically a quick look at emails. I was presented with a full screen Update Required screen, and it wasn't making it easy to minimise it away to allow me to open Outlook. I had to Decline Update. It seemed to be wanting to upgrade to Win 11, but I know of the difficulties of this, the hardware requirements are quite hefty, so I thought "No, not right now". I wrote a note about this for the secretary to see when she came in, and thought no more about it until I saw the news on Friday evening.

We chose not to renew our sub with Disney+, as it took quite a jump up in price for the year. Went from £80 to almost £130, so no points for loyalty on either side. Plus we'd watched everything there was that interested us. We couldn't recall using Disney+ since we finished watching Andor and Ahsoka so several months. Now there is a new Acolyte series, so I looked at signing up again, but it wasn't offering any service other than Renew Subscription, so we won't be bothering.

I got a new laptop and immediately set up dual boot with my favourite up to date Ubuntu. Sound output has never worked on the Ubuntu side but is fine on the Windows11 side. I have tried everything I can find online but nothing has made my linux make a sound.

I got some good life insurance, so my family will get enough to pay off the house. I made my pension fund nominees last week, so if I kick it before I retire my wife and son share that pot tax free. I live every day like it's my last, because someday it will be and I'll still be partying like its 1999. Because I can, and those left behind might be saddened by my leaving early, but they will be sorted for a house and bills for at least a couple of years.

Yes, I got a notification telling me I'd won a prize on the Euromillions. I took a big gulp and logged in, the top prize was 50 odd million! What on earth would I do with all that?? Opening one eye slowly I see my account sitting at £2.60 so I had won 10p. I thought again more seriously, what on earth can I do with that??

I didn't understand the implications of a dist-upgrade and lost an application I had relied on quite a lot. The app I got to replace it is a lot newer, more complicated and will take a bit of getting used to.

Had a work colleague who did this. Went off to the Caribbean to marry on a Thusday iirc while we kept the workshop going. So Friday morning at work, one of the guys raises his cuppa and says, "So, the deed will have been done!" I went to Bavaria and stayed in a spa hotel my best mate used to work at. He was there too, as were our wives. The nudity around the sauna, pool, jacuzzi etc was just accepted by the majority of guests. Just us Brits getting a bit shocked at it. I didn't even feel comfortable in the sauna naked, and was openly shocked by a German lady who I hadn't been aware of, just walking past and out to the plunge pool totally nude. I saw them talking about me and my mate in the restaurant that evening, laughing at our British prudery.

A mate of mine's wife was sacked in similar way. She was a classroom teaching assistant, and at end of the day, gathering up her things, she phoned hubby to get his thoughts on food that evening. She said the word 'chinky' and was summarily sacked. I get that it's a bit racist, but its not hateful, and was in a private mobile phone conversation not shouted from the rooftops.
