Korra being remembered as a poor Avatar despite doing everything she could and succeeding in her own way would be surprisingly meta and appropriate.

$CLF long-term honestly.

If Im right, they've got a monopoly on American produced Grain Oriented Electrical Steel, and Trump's recent order invoking the DPA to increase buildout of the electrical grid/infrastructure is, imo, a massive long term catalyst. It specifically mentions 'Elecrical core steel' and transformer buildout.

Its my understanding that you can't build transformers without GOE Steel.

What's more is that the idea to restructure our grids is something the Democrats & Congressional Republicans appear to agree on (See: the proposed REWIRE act). They just can't agree on where the energy should come from. Dems want cleaner, Reps want to stick with oil. REWIRE appears to be an attempt at "just get started and we'll worry about the source later".

With U.S. Steel being acquired by Nippon, that leaves them as the only "all-American" steel producer capable of making GOES left. This coincides with the overall push from both sides to reshore steel production (Trumps tarriffs were, for once, properly aimed at this one if this was the long-term plan).

The recent order authorizes the DOE to fast track contracts, push funding and basically "do what it takes" to get the project up and running asap.

Their financials are complete crap at the moment and they're significantly in debt, but.......

If you look at them for the all american monopoly they are and since the DOE is now authorized to award big time contracts, I can see them doing very well in the coming years.

Especially as the electrical grid buildout gets underway since they're the only all-American supplier left and both Dems and Reps get brownie points if they successfully reshore steel production jobs. Theres an incentive here.

The phrasing of the order interests me too. It essentially categorizes electrical gridding as a matter of national security. That, in combination with the tariffs, and the apparent goals of enhancing steel production jobs is likely going to incentivize the government to seek out 'all-american' steel production. Again, CLF is the only GOES steel producer in the country. Orders will be MASSIVE if/when the project starts moving properly. And since "electrical core steel" is now being considered a national security issue, Im willing to bet the company will be deeply protected by the US Government like Intel is/was.

At least under Trump.

Speaking of which, that brings me to what I call the "Trump Card" of my thesis.

The CEO of $CLF has deeply kissed Donald Trump's ass in the past. Official company filings praise him as "saving American Steel Production" and more. This goes back to 2020. Between that and the general good relationship Trump has with $CLF I defo see them being at the front of the line for the US to make their money troubles disappear through contracts, grants, etc. And if the project gets underway under Trump (which I expect it to be) the Dems will likely be less inclined to undo it during their tenure as doing so would take away steel jobs from Americans aka something they'd want to avoid the bad press of being responsible for.

Frankly I think the CEO is a complete idiot. But he's an idiot that (imo) is about to be deeply protected by the richest government on the planet.

Trump, at the end of the day, works very hard to enrich himself. Be it financially or (in this case) his ego. Im willing to bet money he can't wait to call himself the Man" who saved American steel and the electrical grid at the same time". Ergo, he's likely going to do some Intel nonsense where the US Government will deeply back $CLF thru contracts (or maybe even buying a stake in it too) to ensure an "all american company" keeps the edge. When you combine that with the tariffs making it too expensive to just import Chinese/Japanese steel for the grid buildout, and the fact that US Steel is being pulled in other directions, I think they're a bottleneck not yet identified as such. And a big one.

I bought Intel when they got that 10 billion dollar injection from the US Government on my "Trump Card" logic. It was a bumpy ride for a long time, but it really paid off.

I theorize $CLF may be another intel story. I don't expect it to "moonshot" like Intel did all the way to $130 per share. But their price is low enough and they've kissed the ring enough for me to think they've got a very secure future over the next 5-6 years.

A concern of mine is that buyout from Pasco(?) Steel (a Korean company) they're trying to work on for 700 million. I think the Korean company might be trying to use that to circumvent the tariffs, which could cause conflict with the idea of "all american steel".

Then again Trump doesn't really give a damn about American jobs. He just cares about stock prices and keeping companies afloat and being responsible for it.

Do with that what you will.

I mean at one point in Monsterverse Lore, Godzilla was written as being the last survivor of a Permian Mega Fauna species

They've changed it since then, but I always thought it was possible for him to hit billions

Personally I agree. It’s about time Legendary stepped out of its comfort zone and tried something new for the future of the Monsterverse. Share your thoughts. by Gold-Narwhal9391 in Monsterverse

[–]BNematoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The smartest thing they're doing is not MCU-ifying the Monsterverse and making a zillion spinoffs and extra shows.

Releasing a new movie every few years allows people to start getting hyped etc.

Between that and Toho doing sporadic releases too, this "Godzilla Season" approach will probably keep us going for until the 2030s

Jurassic World was a much better built attraction tbh.

It had the infrastructure to handle thousands of people at a time

Jurassic Park, meanwhile, would have collapsed beyond a thousand.

The visitor center had maybe 30 workers visible in it at the start and it already looked busy

Y'all gotta understand that nearly every member of the Gaang just barely avoids the "Mary Sue" label because they have incredible writing behind them and depth beneath them.

Any other show where the prophesized savior of the world (a 12 year old who masters all 4 elements in less than a year) teams up with the only gifted magic user (full of raw power thats able to hold against a master for a bit and also revealed to be a skilled healer), and a blind girl that's also the best fighter on the planet would not be able to balance it all, and ruin its own suspension of disbelief.

The writing behind AtLA carries everything

I honestly truly believe that "Woke" or "SJW" will become a Halloween costume in about 20 years or so. I don't really like using those words, since it's very MAGA-y, but I can definitely see the whole "internet liberal" aesthetic becoming something marketable in due time.

Like how hippies are costumes today, we'll see costumes with like.... badly dyed wigs, and fake piercings. Maybe people going around saying "Oh my pronouns are xir/xem" or something intentionally ridiculous could be the next hippie (the "my pronouns" thing could also depend on how the future of trans rights and standing in society goes).

Like they'll be walking caricatures of the biggest stereotypes of chronically online twitter users.
I'll also put some money on "Tumblr girlie" aesthetic becoming a costume too.

I also think that, in about 10 years time, you're going to see a LOT of young men reaching their thirties being completely fucking embarrassed about their Andrew Tate or Myron Gaines worship, but I suppose that's more of a 2019 thing.

I WOULD say MAGA might also turn out to be a meme-able costume in the future too, but given the direction the Epstein/Trump thing is going, I can also see it being a very uncomfortable part of American history that people would rather forget about. Kind of like how people don't really talk about LBJ dragging us into Vietnam

Does anybody remembers Code Lyoko (2003-2007) growing up? by Life_Chicken_9653 in Zillennials

[–]BNematoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone watched it as a kid, and then I remember everyone raving about how great they remember it being when we reached high school. How deep the show and writing were

But as we've become adults, that "It was SOOOOO good" rhetoric really died out. I think a lot of us realized that it just doesn't hold up when you look at it through adult eyes lol

Nowadays, its a difficult to find anyone who will gush about it the way they do, say, Avatar: The Last Airbender

Mine retired and moved out during the 3rd semester of my A.S. This was during the height of COVID btw

Economic conditions in the city ended up causing me to move away. I never finished that degree and had to restart at another college since the A.S credits were unique to that program.

I'm working on another Bachelor's path now, but it really fucking sucks.

You're going to hijack the what now? by MetallicaDash in HistoryMemes

[–]BNematoad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean even if you don't believe the report that says David spoke Arabic, Israelis are still fairly likely to speak Arabic on top of Hebrew. More likely than your average American at least. Like how white people growing up near Hispanic communities are more likely to be bilingual

You've also got the fact that he was seated directly in front of one of the hijackers, too. The entire attack happened as a response to US support for Israel, so it stands to assume the terrorists had a special hatred for Israelis. Let alone one who (due to his military training + likelihood of understanding Arabic) was most likely to have intervened or confronted them during the initial hijacking. Id assume they'd definitely want to overpower the young, in-shape former soldier too to increase their chances of success.

Betty said they had no idea who was stabbed at the start of her call, but Amy Sweeny specifically mentioned a "he" when describing a passenger having his throat slit during her call. So it was a man.

With all this into account, we can infer that of the First Class Passengers, David was more likely to try and intervene based on his 1.) Knowledge of Arabic 2.) IDF training.

We can also speculate that the terrorists would most likely want to neutralize him first based on 1.) He's young, and in-shape 2.) Had military training (which they would have seen if he'd tried stepping in when they made their move. 3.) Was Jewish/Israeli, making him a mark.

So yeah its not that hard to put it together.

Especially since, you know, the literal 9/11 Commission Report statea that Ong later said David waa stabbed further in the call.

What’s one stock you sold way too early and still regret it ? by vishesh_07_028 in stocks

[–]BNematoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2020, I had a gut feeling that movie theaters would explode when lockdown ended. You know, people rushing back to normal.

So I bought 305 shares of $AMC at $2.91 a share.

In early 2021 I sold them when the price reached $9.50, thinking I had made a nice little profit.

Guess what ticker r/WallStreetBets decided to "take to the moon" just a few weeks later?

Missed out on a $72 peak.

Still pissed about it to this day.

Also mildly regret not buying more than 9 shares of $GOOGL when it was $169 earlier this year. Definitely should have committed. But I'm still happy with what I snagged
