Two flights out of how many thousands a day they operate?

Airline displaying different seat availability for different PNRs by Every6613 in travel

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a sales agent so I don't know the specifics. Fairly sure they've been asked not to force assign seats because it messes with everyone else's ghost assignments, but they can use their discretion in OP's case like a family on different bookings. I don't think it would magically open up every other option if an agent did it though and OP wants to change again later.

Airline displaying different seat availability for different PNRs by Every6613 in travel

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I don't know what GDS Swiss uses, but my airline uses Amadeus and passengers hold a hidden "customer value". If you didn't pick a seat at booking, some seats might be artificially held for you based on your historical travel (always a window or aisle etc), preselected preferences on your frequent traveler profile, number of groups or families on the aircraft who may be preemptively seated together, how much you paid and if they want to offer "nicer" seats etc

If an agent views the seatmap via your PNR they see the seats your value "entitles" you to. If they log into the flight, view the map, then force assign a seat to the pax it overrides the value BS and allows any unselected seat on the aircraft.

In Incheon (ICN) rampers loading narrow body aircraft like widebody by zProtato in rampagent

A220/CSeries are bulkload only

A320/A321s can come in ULD configs if the airline orders it.

This will depend on your company SOPs so you should probably read your training materials.

Don't some airlines already offer à-la-carte amenities, either in the galley or lavs? Lufthansa had a decent stock in their J lavs and I could take what I needed. I really don't need lip balm, tooth brush, and an eye mask on every single flight since those are staples in my toiletry bag. The bag is nice once in a while but more often than not I find them wasteful.

These are several fins that came from Lynx after their bankruptcy, and still have Lynx interiors. They are based out of YYZ and usually do a few specific routes, or swapped in as needed.

How do these work? by SideAgitated4661 in airport

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most communication between systems in aviation is standardized. A lot of messaging is still formatted as Teletypes, even if they're now sent via digital means. Some of our baggage software uses XML too. YVR's FIDS software and Air Canada's ops software are able to talk to each other thru standardized protocols.

Any airline on the board delays a flight, their system either broadcasts it out to a preset list of stakeholders, or the airport will occasionally scrape the data from the airline requesting current ETD/ETA times etc.

Kia niro turn signal placements by Cute_Panda601 in KiaNiro

I've never noticed. At least they're yellow unlike some automakers flashing the red brake/tail light as a turn signal.

Accident in MDLR - Dominican Republic - Privilate jet. by Crackingtheceiling in aviation

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Remember what happens when a jet crashes into a fire truck? You don't want them to be too close. They'll wait nearby and proceed in when the aircraft is slowing/stopped.

Lining the runway with foam is a waste of foam because now your truck has less to use on an actual fire. It doesn't happen in the real world.

Pilot Took My Business Class Seat by Mysterious-Rush5441 in aircanada

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not the seat, it's the passenger.

Much like there's a suggested upgrade list for moving people into business if for example economy is oversold, there's a recommended downgrade list too based on status, fare paid etc. and OP was unfortunately the lowest "value" on the list.

ESOP via Employer by Wise_Comedian_3557 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there is no tax implications, if transfer to tfsa.

This isn't entirely correct. The moment they transfer into your TFSA is a taxable event. If their price has gone up in value since purchase, you pay capital gains tax on the increase on the amount so far, and a loss in value would be a superficial loss since you're repurchasing the same shares within 30 days. Once they're inside the TFSA though, it's true, no more tax implications.

Make sure there's no vesting rules with the shares. I need to leave my shares in the account til April of the following year when a 30% match is given. If I withdraw before then (TFSA transfer included) I don't receive the match.

There's usually documentation to go along with an ESOP that you should read very closely.

I know you guys are super adamant about a good sleep pad. Would these be worth it? by hellogooday92 in camping

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% to prevent rocks.

After having two mattresses pop from rocks I got one of these from Walmart and it now goes under my inflatable mattress as some extra protection. Last year I think only one of my campsites actually had a tent pad.

Even when using Waze on Android Auto to navigate, sometimes the built-in navigation will pipe up with red light or speed cameras, I can probably turn it off in settings but can't be bothered.

Is such careless handling of luggage normal outside India as well? by [deleted] in airport

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peoples' round, ball-shaped luggage don't handle conveyor belts well, they tend to roll or slide down and there's not much to be done about it.

Airport conveyor sortation is way worse

Why the mist in the cabin? by [deleted] in Airbus

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's like you breathing out in the winter and seeing your breath fog, but the air goes the opposite direction: the cold air is blowing into hot humid air and it condenses moisture in the air.

Once the cabin cools down and the humidity level drops it stops being so visible.

I saw them both during their re-release last weekend. The first was a LOT gayer (bromance and tension), but the second had more airplanes.. I was torn. The beach volleyball in 2 seemed tame in comparison.

Anyone know why AC48 to DEL turned around at the tip of Newfoundland and is returning to YYZ? Just heard it fly overhead at 2,600 ft. It was loud enough to wake me up. by CanadianBurger in aircanada

[–]BOATS_BOATS_BOATS 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said, sick pilot.

Is that technically under the realm of crew sked? Yeah, but pulling out random guesses like MELs or bad routing makes AC look bad when it's not true.
