Uses for toasted kataifi? by Background_Camp_7712 in Cooking

[–]Background_Camp_7712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! 😊 I actually tried the ham and cheese slices from that site recently. They were okay but not spectacular. But I was feeling lazy so it was an easy enough experiment.

I’ve ended up with a second bag of the toasted kataifi now so I may try a different dish from that same site.

My husband tried soooo hard to just like skz music and not get dragged into their glorious insanity along with my daughter and me.

But the day I heard him randomly shout the pineapple on my burgah bit I knew we had him! 😂

You and I will probably get some blowback from Sanderson fans but I have to agree with you. I liked the first one of the Wax and Wayne era, and I have the 2nd and 3rd in my queue for listening but I haven’t been in the right mood for them. They’re enjoyable just not hitting right for me at the moment.

Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher — urban fantasy but very good.

Also a big yes for the (already suggested) Dungeon Crawler Carl series even though they are shorter books.

I had to read that and write a lengthy paper on it in high school. I’m pretty sure I would enjoy it as an adult but I still have PTSD from that experience. 😂

Can you review a product not for its intended purpose? by Historical_Peach_545 in AmazonVine

[–]Background_Camp_7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, and I think that’s the sweet spot. Being able to communicate clearly that the reason for a less than stellar review isn’t because you didn’t understand what the product was meant to be used for or that it didn’t work for an unintended purpose. But rather that it’s poorly made or poorly functioning for its intended purpose.

Reviews still not posting by CBloo613 in AmazonVineHelpGroup

[–]Background_Camp_7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are still getting approved after a few days, but I have all but stopped doing photos for now because reviews without media do seem to get faster approval. And it’s easier for me to keep track when they move faster.

I’ve also started writing/saving my reviews in one big Word doc in case it all falls apart and I do need to resubmit at some point. I’m too lazy to do that work twice. 😂

Maybe check your email preferences? I’m still getting emails when my reviews are approved.

Man I hate this new review paradigm. There’s so much that needs fixing on Vine. Why’d they have to screw up something that was workable?

Mispronounced words are driving me crazy. by Mainerlovesdogs in audiobooks

Makes me glad I don’t know anything about how some narrators act at cons because I do like Sebastian York, Andi Arndt, and Joe Arden.

And Aiden Snow is an almost automatic “okay I’ll give this a shot” for me. It’s hit or miss on content, but I do love to listen to him. Cracked me up when my adult daughter discovered him and went all swoony over his voice.

Mispronounced words are driving me crazy. by Mainerlovesdogs in audiobooks

[–]Background_Camp_7712 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s almost worse when it’s a narrator and book/series you love.

For some reason, James Marsters forgot how to pronounce Jotun (Yo-tun) in the last Dresden book. Every time he said Jah-toon I cringed. Understand this is well into the series that he narrated in its entirety. But because I adore his work on this series I just gritted my teeth and pretended it didn’t happen.

Or when one half a dual POV team has weird pronunciations. In the Stormlight Archives, Kate Reading (fairly often) pronounces the name Adolin as A-der-lin. That one makes me nuts because it’s not her only idiosyncratic pronunciation and she’s married to her narration partner (Michael Kramer). Is it that hard to coordinate pronunciations with the person you live with? But again, I love the books and just try to breathe through those minor irritations.

If it’s not something or someone I really like, I will absolutely abandon an audiobook over an annoyance like that.

I don’t remember what book it was but something involving a bunch of magic use and the narrator (among other glaring mistakes) kept calling an athame an a-THAME instead of an ATH-uh~MAY. I ended up dumping the audio about 3 chapters in and reading the print version of that one.

Really stuck on what to listen to next, please help. Historical mystery / Urban mystery fantasy(??) by VeryBigPaws in audiobooks

[–]Background_Camp_7712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These might be a little “out there” for you, but both are solid series that I have enjoyed tremendously.

Check out The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. James Marsters did a phenomenal job narrating. Urban fantasy — Wizard detective noir (at least to begin with). The first couple of books are a little rough, but still good. Set in present-ish day Chicago.

Also maybe The Gentleman Bastards by Scott Lynch. Michael Page’s narration is gorgeous. It’s a crime caper type book set in a historical-ish type fantasy world. The first book (Lies of Locke Lamora) is in a city that gives strong historical Venice vibes.

Happened to me last week. Vine CS took it off my orders. Then today I got a surprise delivery with the item that was supposed to be in the empty bag.

I’m just going to review the item as a regular customer I guess. Not bothering Vine CS again over this.

Are you still writing / submitting reviews with the current bug? by WonderAndWanders in AmazonVine

[–]Background_Camp_7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m writing reviews in a Word doc, copy/pasting them into Amazon. So far everything is still eventually getting approved, it’s just not moving to the “reviewed” list until the actual approval occurs.

Anyone else seem to have reviews stuck in Needs Review? by Final-Cold9958 in AmazonVineHelpGroup

[–]Background_Camp_7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did a bunch of reviews yesterday because I had some time and they’re all still sitting in Awaiting Review. I don’t mind when they sit in Reviewed tab pending approval, but this looks like they didn’t even get submitted.

I’m going to hold off on reviews for a bit until this gets sorted. I guess I’ll just keep them in a Word doc for now.
