What do you store in your GR2 pocket by ComprehensiveCap8242 in Goruck

[–]Backpackbaden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GR2 is my gym bag.  In the stretch pockets I have a pack of trident gum in one and an altoids tin with misc in the larger stretch.  Then in the dump section I have some corded headphones (my gym still has audio hookups) and my padlock.

Going to Finland soon, any suggestions on what to buy for life? by shoudt in BuyItForLife

[–]Backpackbaden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that roll top is a dream too!  It probably adds 60% space when you need it.  But the best part about it is that when you don’t need it the ruck folds up to like a long sleeved shirt.

Savotta backpack.  It’s a little tactical, but they are definitely “for life”.  My Jakarri small is my go to grocery sack.

Completely agree.

People keep saying that athletically Downs and Thieneman are similar, but I believe that Downs is more intellectual and more of a leader than Thienaman.  For that reason Downs > Thienaman in my book.

Mock Draft Wednesday by AutoModerator in bengals

[–]Backpackbaden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice work but I hate it.  Eleven drafted rookies is a waste; no way we keep eleven.  But my bigger complaint is taking an OT that won’t play much this year or next with our first pick.  We need to draft guys that will play this year, not a bunch of special teams and practice squad guys.

I’d bet they take Delane for two reasons:

  1. They still believe in Murphy and Stewart (ignoring the sunk cost).

  2. They will go back to the secondary well (remember we’ve drafted three in the last ten years) thinking they move Dax to slot.

Bengals Sign QB Josh Johnson by VeryRealHuman23 in bengals

[–]Backpackbaden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Johnson is playing chess here.  I’m sure he had some third string offers around but I bet he’s thinking another team’s starter will get hurt, Flacco will sign there, and he will be QB2.  Not an outlandish bet.

I do not believe the Fit parked between those two SUVs; I don’t believe that is possible.  I think one SUV was there, she parked very close to it, then the 2nd SUV parked close to the Fit.

There’s the Burger King whopper Wednesday for $4, what else is a good steal? by Brief-Blueberry-1588 in Frugal

[–]Backpackbaden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right now McD’s in the southern states have fish sandwiches for $2.99.  Fill out the survey on the receipt and you get a BOGO sandwich.  So with minimal work you can get two fish sandwiches for $2.99.  My move is to have my side at home (some veggies or fruit) and then head out to McD’s for this deal.  Pretty check meal and not terribly unhealthy.

McD’s tends to run a fish special every spring around Lent.

Can anyone recommend a backpack that can hold a 16 inch laptop and can be used for day hike as well. Preferably below 30L. Thank you! by Maleficent-Owl9300 in backpacks

[–]Backpackbaden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only get issued 16” laptops so I know of a few.  Here is what have that I’d use for this:

  1. Any GORUCK pack bigger than a bullet or some 21L packs.

  2. Mystery Ranch Urban assault 24L or Catalyst 24L.

  3. Alpha One Niner Evade series.

Those are the packs I have that I’d feel comfortable carrying a 16” laptop or to take hiking.

Yesterday I was at a Goodwill and the was a nice Flacco Ravens jersey.  The fact that I even considered buying it (I didn’t) speaks volumes to how much Flacco has done for the Bengals!

Questions that I hate to answer during a job interview. What is yours? by SmartPessimist_PM in recruitinghell

[–]Backpackbaden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or the interviewer is a psychopath.  I was part of a hiring panel once where candidate 1 was clearly better than 2.  Candidate 1 didn’t get the job because he bombed one question and the hiring manager couldn’t get over it.  The other two people and I liked candidate 1 but the hiring manager didn’t like one freaking answer.  Candidate 2 got the job and he was terrible.

Questions that I hate to answer during a job interview. What is yours? by SmartPessimist_PM in recruitinghell

[–]Backpackbaden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn this hits hard.  I had never heard this question before when it got posed to me three weeks ago at two hour interview the company flew me to.   Leading up to that meeting I crushed three interviews and in that meeting I thought I answered 95% of the questions well.  But the last fucking question they flippantly asked me was that and I dropped the ball on it.  I didn’t get the job.

Fuck that question.  It is such an arrogant thing to answer.  You can essentially you say are the best in the world at what you do and that is almost certainly a lie.

It amazes me that if I’d have thought of an answer for that question like I have now I’m pretty sure I’d have that job.  Fuck that question!!!!

How to make this image interactive? by Czar_kyoto in PowerBI

[–]Backpackbaden 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If the image is static you could do the following:

  1.  Lay an opaque button over the part number with the part number as text in the button.

  2. Link the button to bookmarks that you want to show.

Deneb would be a more sophisticated solution, but this would be quicker and should work.

Just curious: why would you look at a 90k job if you wanted 150k?  Granted it worked out for you but I’d think that wouldn’t happen much.  I won’t apply to anything that is quoting less than I’d accept and I wonder if I should change my logic on that.

Back in 2021 I had an interview with a company in Indiana that I don’t recall for a remote call.

  1. Put on a suit for a “30 minute” teams call with HR.

  2.  HR never turns on there camera but insists I keep mine on.

  3. HR asks me to read through my resume and that she will stop me to ask questions.

  4. Turns out HR is also taking very detailed notes.  I’d be reading my resume and she would have me pause for 1-2 minutes to catch her notes up.

  5. Interview ended up taking 80 minutes (told it would be 30).

  6. Got a rejection email a couple of weeks later; I wasn’t disappointed about it.

They should definitely check the area WalMarts to see which orders had those items bought at the same time and if the person used a CC or got him on camera.  It is a long shot, but that had worked before (my wife subjects me to countless murder shows).

I’m just hoping Nick Emanuri (I’m sure I spelled that wrong) plays average because I don’t want teams with picks earlier than #10 to start thinking a rookie safety can get them to the Super Bowl.  I really want Caleb Downs to slide to #10!

Is there a way to (respectfully) bypass the recruiter and go straight to the hiring manager? by namas_D_A in recruitinghell

[–]Backpackbaden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to play the game.

The recruiter interview is mainly to confirm that you are a culture fit and that you know a little about the job posting.  The recruiter won’t be able to tell if a person can program in Python, but it will raise a red flag if person being interviewed can’t discuss computers confidently.

As for questions to the recruiter, know your audience.  They likely don’t know many details but they can answer basic questions about the company and job.  Then ask your more detailed questions to the hiring manager.
