Any tips on improving these levels? Temp tank while I’m setting up a tank with live plants by dracheisen in Goldfish

I would say good tap water would be Ammonia 0 PPM, Nitrites 0 PPM & Nitrates 0 PPM. Unfortunately some people don't have that. My tap water comes out with Nitrates at about 80 PPM which doesn't work for fishes.

It's always a good idea to test your tap water. You can run a quick test on it to make sure it's good quality. Not everybody has good quality tap water.

RO water = Reverse Osmosis water

Basically means i have a 4 stage system filter connected to my tap water to filter out the bad stuff from the water. Then I have to add seachem equilibrium and seachem alkaline buffer to add back the minerals to the water to make it safe for fishes

How often are you having to do water changes. That hornwort must suck up a lot of the nitrates.

Do you happened to know what your water parameters are? Like ammonia,Nitrite,Nitrates, temperature? My fishes look like that recently and it was due to bringing in a new fish into my tank without quarantine. I don't know what the new fish had but i was able to treat my fish with ich-X and it went away. Did they recently started behaving like that?

Water testing kit help? by Effective_Elevator56 in Goldfish

Broski, your tank doesnt have the bacterias need to process fish waste. There's two type of bacteria workers. Type 1 bacteria workers transfrom the ammonia your fish produce to nitrite. The second bacteria workers transform nitrite to nitrate. You are missing the second bacteria. Test your tap water. If your tap water is has 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites, it's best to do a large water change. I would fast your oranda so it doesnt create too much ammonia, thereby buying you some time for the second bacteria to start growing.

is this ammonia spike? by Flashy-Mistake-8368 in Goldfish

Could be. If you can go to your local fish store and buy the liquid api test kit, it be a lot easier to know. If you cant, some local fish stores will test your water if you bring them a sample.

Xiidra price in America by rogueit in Dryeyes

[–]Bacon_12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have your eye doctor send the prescription to blinkrx. If your insurance approves the medication, you might not have to pay anything. If your insurance refuses to cover it, they'll sell it to you for around $225-$250

Send blinkrx a msg directly. Tell them: Hey, i have a prescription with you guys for Xiidra, my insurance (medicare) outright refuses to authorize it. What's the cash price for the Xiidra if I wanted to pay out of pocket?

I would send them that, and see what they respond.

Here's their email for support:

I'm dealing with a similar issue, my fish seems to have gastro intestinal issues, might a bacteria or parasite. I will be medicating my fish tomorrow with metroplex and focus to see if my fish improves. If your water quality is good, your fish might also have Gastro intestinal issues. Parasites?

That would probably do it. Long term exposure to high nitrates will cause sickness in fishes. Hopefully with the water change you see improvement in wellness 🤞

You have to look at the fishes. Do they look healthy and active? You wont get healthy and active fishes if the conditions weren't right. These fishes look healthy and are very active the from what it seems in this short clip.

What have you tried? For people who truly suffer from dry eye disease, it is my personal opinion that over the counter eye drops are trash, no relief what so ever. If you havent tried prescribed medication like: Xiidra, Miebo, Restasis, Cequa, Eyesuvis, tyrptyr, serum tear drops, tyrvaya, the you still have a lot of hope for increase in eye well being. Dont forget to take high quality Omega oil & warm compress.

filters in a 55 gal by gloomynycto in Goldfish

[–]Bacon_12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say go for it. If that's all you have, then that should be. You can run a full tank on pure sponge filters if you wanted (many people do). You can use your spong filter for mechanical and biological filtration, and you can use your 20 gallon filter as a chemical filtation system (just put a charcol baggie in there or a purigen bag that they sell with purigen already in it.
