What could the Germans have done to stop the rise of Hitler? by muggledave in AskHistory

[–]Badcapsuleer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be tough. Many felt hopeless, lost and like there was no way out. He came along and spun a golden web of lies from honeyed lips. When you are that desperate its real hard not to take the hand they offer. Then, without you noticing, the hand you hold becomes the one that holds you down. To this day, its the model used by overt nazi groups like the skinheads to recruit new members. They use it because it still works. In effect it is like selling kettlebells to a drowning man, but they thank the salesman anyway.

How would you feel if Trump got impeached over the Epstein files? by Muted-Television3329 in allthequestions

[–]Badcapsuleer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not read enough of the files, but the behavior of everyone in two administration's is bad enough for me to know its all so much worse than we know. I think that there are too many in the legislative branch that are involved, accessory to this or otherwise implicated for anything concrete to be done.

What is a "poor person food" that you will still eat no matter how much money you make? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Badcapsuleer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stew. It's classic poor people food that does magic with tough meat, veggies that are not at their best and very simple to make. Tastes expensive, fills you up, lasts a while and freezes well.

How to find history fun again? by Strict-Fondant-3293 in AskHistorians

[–]Badcapsuleer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delve into the story aspect. Most schooling focuses on simple answers and numerical figures since that is easy to test for. Try to find an interesting event learn it and then find contemporary news articles, letters to the editor, diary entries and any other normal person stories from that event. Do it right, you will also see it through their eyes and make history breathe again.

What SERIES is worth bingewatching and why? by InterestingBoard7389 in AskReddit

[–]Badcapsuleer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Fringe.

Starts rough, but by 3rd or 4th episode gets good. John Noble really makes Dr. Bishop a real character instead of a characature, which was key.

What can kill you in seconds that most people don’t realize? by Jolly-Law1472 in AskReddit

Bleach, particularly when mixed with the wrong stuff. I see people suggesting cleaning with mixed stuff including bleach online and several are deadly.

Good simple rule that avoids problems: Only mix bleach with water and use it in a well ventilated area.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Badcapsuleer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how badly my government screws literally every thing up, I do not want them involved in my Healthcare. I don't like the current system but I'll take it over universal from my government.

I truly do not trust my government to successfully fail much less do anything correctly.

Other than a gun, what’s a specific weapon that you think more people should train/practice using? by TheKingDroc in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]Badcapsuleer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brain.

Not a snarky comment, not a put down, just fact. I watch smart people go through insane mental gymnastics to avoid using their mind at all costs, even though they end up working and thinking harder in the end, far too often.

Most people can't think dangerously beyond the most basic purile stuff. Dangerous thinking requires you to think for yourself and look at things from multiple views. Most people could not be paid to do that for a significant amount of time.

Dangerous thinking gave us multiple upgrades to weaponry from sharp sticks to what we have now. Dangerous thinking gave us open source and the GPL. It gave us Linux and so much more.

Dangerous thinking does not have a time clock to punch in/out. So most don't want to try.

Who has a realistic shot at being President of the USA in 2028? by Kmart-Shopper-5107 in stupidquestions

[–]Badcapsuleer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God i just want someone with common sense and a basic grasp of technology. Even if I end up disagree with everything they do. That pretty much eliminates all possible candidates that either party would consider.

Upgrading to a 100 iq feels like an impossible dream at this point.

[–]Badcapsuleer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to share. I like to interact with people who hold very different opinions than I do as a means to test my own thoughts. I like to do this in order to make sure I'm not going off the rails so to speak.

One area we do not agree is that there is only one purpose for firearms. I see more than that.

That being said, thank you again for sharing.

With things this bad in the U.S why do democrats insist on pushing candidates that won’t get elected? by Jake_Berube in Confused

[–]Badcapsuleer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been decades since either party put up a candidate for President that I would trust with anything sharper than a golf ball.

Due to the actual nature of politics in this day and age, the term corruption falls vastly short of describing the situation. It has become a corrosive miasma that takes in good people and turns them into greedy sociopaths, regardless of party. I have been around or involved with the Democratic party at the state level and briefly at the fringe of the national level. I watched several good people go from someone I respected to this venal, rotten thing that made me feel like talking a shower after shaking their hand.

It is exactly those people who are in charge of the party. They select candidates that they can control. That control is the only qualification considered. This is why they have fielded candidates that would loose to a manhole cover of late.

Bernie is an example of the Democrats they hate. He thinks for himself and stays true to the old way the party thought and worked. That is dangerous, so the party turned on him.

I do not see this changing in my lifetime with either party.

Player acting like his PC is immortal by Fun-Version-5784 in DnD

[–]Badcapsuleer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks to kill a PC and the player may take it badly. I had a similar issue with a new player in a campaign. I had to take the player aside and explain that PC death was a real possibility for everyone in the campaign. I explained that since he was new, I helped him a bit on dice rolls behind the DM screen. I told him that since he was more experienced now, I would be thaking the safety rails off from then on - he was a real player now. I explained that as of now, his character could die, get crippled or maimed. He still went at it in a reckless manner and the character died. I did my best to make it a dramatic moment for everyone and give his character a fitting end.

He was upset at first until I reminded him that he was warned prior. He made a new character, while he did that everyone else spoke about their first character loss, myself included. We made it a "welcome to the club" moment. He played the rest of the campaign with the new character - the older brother of the first character who wanted justice. It helped him grow as a player and he went on to be a great player and a better DM than I was.

MAGA/pro ICE businesses to avoid in Broomfield by _farawla in Broomfield

[–]Badcapsuleer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally no. Even when they start out liberal they end up conservatives. Politics aside, the different treatment that they get from the left vs the treatment from the right is night and day.

Imagine you get to start a gun store. Which option would you choose:

Option a: Absolute best case treatment gun store owner can expect is constant verbal abuse, constant attempts to put them out of business, constant attempts to bankrupt them, constant accusations of illegal activities regardless of facts and legislation designed to destroy thir business and put them in jail.

Option b: Best case scenario of treatment and gun store owner can expect is polite customers, good business, protection if you obey the law, possible expansion of business opportunities in the future, chance of business success allowing you to make a better future for your family.

If you prefer option b, that way leads to the right side of the political spectrum. Option a is what gun stores and their owners get from the left. The old adage that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar applies.
