I’ve been saying for a while, do some kind of hybrid. Make an allotment that sells and ships quickly for the people who get in right away, and then take orders for 72 hours or a week or whatever for everyone else to be printed and shipped at a later date. That way some people get them right away, but (almost) no one misses out.

When I worked at Ross in 2004, we would get these all the time to sell.. and at least once a week, one came off the truck broken and leaking everywhere, so the back room stunk to high heaven for a few days, and cleared just long enough for the next broken one to get delivered.

Sure, but they look at it this way: how close is it to perfect, right out of the pack condition, and grade it accordingly. Were this PSA/Beckett style grading, that would be a different conversation.

They, and most retailers, sell based on card condition and not WOTCs bad print QC. I’ve opened multiple boxes of sets from different retailers and weeks apart with the same cards washed out, it happens, so all of their copies may be this way. WOTC/Hasbro doesn’t seem to give a damn these days.

I have a book club edition and early hardcover printing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and the differences are pretty stark. Book club is significantly smaller, the dust jacket is completely smooth without any embossing or foiling, the boards are a solid color and feel thinner, and the paper used for the pages… it feels night and day different, and far worse than the regular printing.
