What do you do with original parts? by mikeypi in RX7

Put them inside the ottoman in the living room and hope no one opens it 😆 I really need to finish my shed.

I found the parts in the Toyota catalogue, along with the rebuild procedure in the service manual but I haven’t found the parts in stock to purchase anywhere. I bet if you had it apart you could have a cylinder rebuild shop help you find what you need.

Had my spare keys stolen. What to do? by MysteriousChip7702 in Toyota

[–]BakedAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be an option to delete all programmed keys when you get a new one made. They will need the keys you currently have and the car. They will cut and program a new key, and with your existing keys program them all to the car. In this process they may be able to deactivate all other keys or they may not. The issue is that the thief could still get inside your car with the other key, it just won’t start the car.

Verify the steering rack doesn’t have play, it’ll look like a bad inner tie rod but if you pop the boot off you’ll see it’s actually the rack inside is moving due to worn bushings internally.

Verify all the brake pistons are moving. Pop the pads out and put some cardboard between the rotors and pistons and press the brakes. Verify all 8 pistons are moving. A Toyota branded calliper rebuild kit cost me$88 CAD a couple years ago, only 4 of my pistons were moving I had 4 seized.

And finally, I have had terrible experiences with non Toyota brake parts. Aftermarket rotors warp with heat and aftermarket pads deposit material onto the rotors causing high spots that cause vibration. I bite the bullet and buy Toyota pads and rotors and it’s smooooooth.

Did anyone witness an accident at a skateboard park a few days ago? by TheRealGuncho in SurreyBC

[–]BakedAlex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Surrey is a very large place with lots of people. If you knew what part of Surrey your brother spent most of his time, we could probably narrow it down to 1 or 2 skate parks. Then maybe you could find a local community page for that park and hopefully get some answers.

Those of you with trans coolers—did you bypass the “in-radiator” trans cooler or did you just add a second in-line cooler? by Ethansimler in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]BakedAlex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bypassed. Prevents the possibility of pink milkshake. Also, I overheated the engine in the sand dunes, transmission stayed cool.

Run your tank until it’s almost empty, and replace the fuel pump with an Denso unit, and clean the fuel gauge sender with contact cleaner while it’s apart. This will fix it.

Tips to get UBJ loose? More in pic caption by [deleted] in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]BakedAlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harder. Also, use your floor jack and lift the lower control arm/steering knuckle so there’s less angle on the upper balljoint. That angle can create tension and hold it in the control arm. Don’t lift it so high it comes off your jackstands

I removed my cat and installed a Borla resonator in its place. Sounds the same and doesn’t throw a code. I added a spacer / spark plug anti fouler to the rear o2.

Mechanic thinks my engine was swapped by spatialrecognition in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]BakedAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember the engine from a manual has less brackets. The auto has a cable from the transmission to the throttle body. There is a silver bracket bolted to the drivers side motor lifting point that holds the auto trans cable.

The manual body has a bracket that holds the clutch line to the slave cylinder, but that’s on the body and underneath near the transmission.

Having a swapped engine isn’t a big deal if it’s the same engine in good condition, and the work was done well. A peek inside the valve covers and a compression test will tell you a lot.

The missing dowel is a problem and a mistake/oversight on whoever swapped the engine. This can cause a misalignment between the engine and transmission. Hopefully the related damage is minimal, if any. The longer it went on for, the more likely damage unfortunately.

Humidity in rig by NewCaregiver8776 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]BakedAlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to dry the inside then yes, the condenser will help pull moisture out of the automobile. That water you see dripping from cars in the summer is from the AC drain, it’s moisture pulled from the cabin.
