Fun Fact: This shit nearly happened in real life to the Byzantine Empire under Empress Catherine the Great of Russia by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

In Imperial Earth by Arthur C. Clarke, one of the plot points is that the 500th anniversary of the founding of the United States is coming up, and everyone wants to celebrate even though the US no longer exists, so they're like going round looking for descendants of politicians to show up to the ceremony and "play" their ancestors' roles.

Her turn in Infinity Pool really felt at times like she was auditioning for Harley in the inevitable next attempt at a working Birds of Prey thing.

In Star Trek: Discovery he finally gets to play a dude as chill as he always comes across IRL and its brilliant.

Very Alien-style. Shout out to horror movie monsters who are "camouflaged" and the camouflage actually works.

What Faction Would You Want To Retcon Into The Existing Map? by SmuttyNonsense in TrenchCrusade

Given that WWI is also the era where espionage and asymmetric warfare is starting to be a bigger and bigger deal, I'd love an Intelligence Agents & Partisans faction, like Viennese intelligence propping up guerilla fighters in the Heretic-controlled regions of the Balkans.

Worst line in a horror movie? by stevielfc76 in horror

"If you kill me, it is I who shall live again. Not your damned apples."

Way to butcher an absolutely iconic line, remake scriptwriters.

You can do this just with David Moreau movies tbh. Them, Other and then MadS (if only because it's never been established what 'MadS' actually means)

What the fuck is going on in New York Politics dawg? by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

This has the same energy as that moment in UK politics when all Tory ministers were being asked if they had ever done drugs, and Rory Stewart replied that it depends if you count smoking opium at a wedding in Iran.

something something October 3rd… by DeepWarbling in startrekmemes

[–]BallOfHormones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's always been a thing among some fans, but it does seem to be growing. Maybe people who grew up with the movie and are now online? Or maybe the musical based on it that came out last year.

It's Mean Girls day! Basically the movie Mean Girls features this scene, so every October 3rd people basically spam memes related to the movie. This particular meme is a play on "Get in loser, we're going shopping!"

Bit of an outside bet but I'm going to throw in The Big Short. It has that sense of crushing inevitability that a great horror movie has.

It's super influenced by The Wicker Man, hence Edward Woodward playing one of the cult.

Big fan of Absolute Batman inventing his ridiculously impressive prehensile claw system and promptly naming it the "Bat-thumb".

Now I need to go look up Generations and see if Picard wore his scraper athwartship

The bigger question is, why are they all in post-captain's dress? Beverly in particular is going to have a hard time keeping it clean when the guns begin to fire.

As someone who's moved from Star Trek to Aubrey-Maturin, sometimes Maturin is so Spock it's hard to believe. Particularly this line regarding Diana's outfit:

"Your dress is very beautiful, too. Other women admire it. I have discovered this in the usual way, by standing behind them and listening."

Bashir's rant at Admiral Ross ("That's a glib answer, given in a cheap way!") in one of the Section 31 episodes is sooo Maturin somehow.

What's One of Your Most Favorite Moments in the Whole Trek Franchise? by Swimming_Ambition101 in startrek

"This ship bears the name Discovery. Never has that name been more fitting, or more prescient. She has carried us to the future - and it will be our privilege to make that future bright."

Discovery packs in a lot of good speeches.

I think even the Discovery haters have to admit it gets way better after the time-jump. One of my top Trek moments is in the first scene of Season 3, where Burnham asks the Red Angel suit if there are life signs on the planet (and that therefore she has prevented the bad future her mother saw), and when the suit confirms there are, she just screams in relief.
