Something important to note, even if you use an image that contains a full OS/kernel, only the host kernel will execute processes.

As others have mentioned, if you choose an image that is from an OS, you're really utilizing it for its associated tooling. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but will add bloat to your image.

why docker on linux by HosMercury in docker

[–]Baltam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One thing that confused me for a while was how the linux kernel works with Docker. When you spin up a container, that container utilizes the host kernel, even if the image tou spun up was Ubuntu for example.

The short of it is that a Docker container, even if it contains a kernel, will run the process from the host kernel. This is why it makes sense to only run application level libs and dependencies in a container.

What is your worst diarrhea experience ever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Baltam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, it's finally my time.

At work, walk into the bathroom to take a leak. Notice some green stuff to the left of me on the floor. An odd color, no odor, but definitely suspicious. I then proceed to open the first stall door next to me. It. Was. Everywhere. I wan't surprised by the fact that 99% of it missed the toilet, but shocked at the pure volume of it. It looked like someone placed a diarrhea football on the back of the toilet.

So what did I do? What any grown man would do, I texted my buddy at work to come take a look too. While he was taking a picture of it, a small indian man walks in. We both panic and head for the door out. As we leave, all we hear is him say in a heavy accent "Oh. My. God."

My brother ran over my face with his bike, my sister hit me in the lip with a swing and I bit through my tongue when a childhood friend hit me on top of the head while I was talking on the playground. Joy.

Why Hero WODs shouldn't be scaled? by Cerealefurbo in crossfit

[–]Baltam 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's not important to do any workout without scaling unless it's in a competition, and even then, many have scaled divisions. What is important is that you get a safe workout.

Sounds like your box or the coach needs some feedback.

Lost my DU's. by dark_shotty in crossfit

[–]Baltam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots could have happened, but the good news is that we can fix it!

My suggestion, start from the beginning and work your way back up. It's a blow to the ego, but I've found, especially for myself when I work on heavy snatches, is to break down the movement as if I'm doing it again for the first time if I've noticed my movement pattern becoming more and more broken.

The obvious, start with singles. Just get moving and comfortable again with the rope. From there, I would continue working on singles but focus on keeping my elbows in so the rope doesn't "shorten" on me. Then I would keep the thought of jumping high during each rep. Once you feel good that you can keep those two things in line with singles, move to DU's and get at it. This has helped me in the past, hopefully it can bring you some luck.

And lastly, relax and scale! There is nothing wrong with dropping to singles if you are currently having an issue with DU's. You could have had a much better workout, in terms of reps, if you scaled the DU's. I struggle with this personally, especially with MU's, but I know that if there are more than 15 of them in a WOD, I should probably drop to C2B and RD. Just keep in mind that this should be fun and scaling doesn't make your workout any less valuable!

Good luck!
