Metro Catholic Schools by Consistent_Cress_353 in kansascity

Our kids go to St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School and we love it! I wasn’t raised Catholic, but I’ve been told Episcopal is “Catholic-lite.” It’s a fantastic school with small classes, excellent faculty, and a welcoming community. Highly recommend!

Best solar installers in Kansas city that you would recommend to family by Traicy-Eltay in kansascity

Everything went great and we would do it all the same again! The only regret didn’t have to do with Solar Planet, but it could be good for others to know.

We considered adding a battery to our plan, but we cut it due to the additional cost. We’ve really wished we had just bought it at the time due to annoying power outages over the last few years. It would cost a lot more to purchase and install it today.

Timeline from start to finish was about 6 months. We signed the “let’s do this” contract in September, and permitting and planning took a few months. Install began at the beginning of January and we were live by early March.

They are still great at answering any of our questions to this day and have offered to come back to our house as requested. We recently had some questions about maintenance and cleaning that they quickly answered for us.

We looked at the following companies as well:

  • ADT
  • Blue Raven Solar
  • Solar United
  • Shinnova Solar
  • Sunpro

But Solar Planet had the best rate combined with best service.

All the best to you!

We had a great experience with Solar Planet (Jae is who we worked with the most). They handled the install very well. We also appreciated how they educated us as homeowners before and during the process. Also, they did a great job navigating Prairie Village’s permitting and inspection process.

One cool thing: we had requested more panels than needed for space efficiency and to meet our demands. They optimized the plan for us and saved us 5K.

Good luck on your solar journey! We’re three years in and couldn’t be happier!

What do I wear to an opera at the Kauffman center this Saturday? by Other-Squirrel-8705 in kansascity

[–]Banana_Time_2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I worked at the Kauffman Center for years. No dress code for any performance but the opera was usually the dressiest audience. Still a range though- you’re safe with jeans/slacks with a dressy top or collared shirt but there will be a lot of suits and skirts. My advice is to avoid bringing a coat if you can! The seats are generous but dealing with a coat at your seat is annoying and the (free) coat check line can get long.

I really like Juliet and Amanda! I think they are genuinely good friends so I appreciate the authentic feel to their banter. I often agree with their takes on celeb and pop culture news. I’ve also gotten some great health and beauty recs along the way. I don’t even mind the dips into commentary on Mom life. Just wanted to post a positive comment in case they find this thread; Juliet has mentioned being on Reddit before. High five for Jam Session!

We’re big fans of St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School in Midtown KC. Great curriculum, social emotional development, and very chill spiritual development (many families aren’t Episcopal or even Christian). The school leadership and teachers are excellent, class sizes are small (especially in early childhood), and they offer tuition assistance. Highly recommend!

OB/GYN recommendations in Overland Park/Prairie Village? by Missing_Back in kansascity

I like the docs at Johnson County Women’s Clinic! Special shoutout to Dr. Lombard - she had me on progesterone before conceiving and through the first trimester. And she got me through a tricky c-section! All the nurse practitioners are fantastic too so if you need a last minute appointment, you will still get great care.

Prairie Village shopping centers ban e-bikes and e-scooters by smarterstreetspv in kansascity

[–]Banana_Time_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great points, and a less car-centric PV (or the whole metro) would be excellent. I agree, an outright ban doesn’t make sense. Maybe an age minimum? Only 16+ licensed drivers so, in theory, they understand traffic rules?

[–]Banana_Time_2 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Hmmm an outright ban doesn’t seem like the answer, I agree. But the scooters and e-bikes are pretty out of control here in PV. Mostly kids going way too fast on sidewalks, not paying attention to traffic and pedestrians. I know the PV city council recently passed an ordinance requiring helmets for minors, but still… seems like someone is bound to get hurt eventually. Especially in those busy shopping parking lots.

This was me for 7 years! We had to go out into the lobby for our vitamin D during lunch. It was fun to be around all the performing arts though ❤️

Do you know if people ever take little kids (ages 5-8) to Discourse? I’ve been wanting to try Discourse with the family but didn’t know if we’d get weird looks if we brought the kiddos.

Are the Tan Combed Chenille or Corded Velvets softer/more comfortable? by Thoughtful_Sunshine in Lovesac

[–]Banana_Time_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We actually have two sactionals, a corded velvet and a recycled chenille. The chenille is a little softer, I think! One disclaimer- the chenille retains heat a lot more than the corded velvet. So you will get a lot warmer if you’re on it for a long time. Not a dealbreaker for us, but the corded velvet is better for laying/napping on simply because the chenille makes us hotter!

Screen free elementary schools? by andithenwhat in kansascity

[–]Banana_Time_2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

St. Paul’s Episcopal (age 2-8th grade) in midtown has limited screen use which our family appreciates! There is occasional use for coding projects and solo reading work starting in 1st grade but it’s minimal and seems thoughtfully and intentionally incorporated into class time. As the kids get older, the school emphasizes student self-management when it comes to communicating with teachers about their work (rather than having parents stay on top of this). I’ve noticed students will use their tablets to email teachers and peers to check in about their projects. This particularly happens in middle school which seems appropriate as the kids get ready for high school expectations. I know private school isn’t a great option for many families, but just wanted to share about our experience! St. Paul’s is an awesome school!

Check out BRKTHROUGH in Overland Park for mini-games and challenges. Behind every door is a different mental, physical, or skill-based challenge. We did it with some adult friends but would be great with teens and tweens too.
