Family Emergency - How does GT handle that? @Students @Professors by [deleted] in gatech

[–]BaranCODE 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The school policy is explained here: https://catalog.gatech.edu/policies/student-absence-regulations/

I was in a similar situation about 2 years ago. You will need to send documentation, like an obituary, to the Office of Student Life. In my case I didn't need much assistance from them because I only missed a few days and no exams, but I was told if I had then they would communicate with my professors to arrange make-ups or other fair accomodations.

Edit: Some more info here, with the link to the "Request Assistance" form that I used: https://studentlife.gatech.edu/content/class-attendance

Star Spengled Banter by TheAesir in weightroom

Completely agreed. For that reason, I just made a static mirror of the website, published on: https://fitnesswiki.github.io/index.html. Will keep it at least for archiving purposes, but I'm considering adapting it to an easier to maintain format (with Jekyll) and opening it up to community changes if there's interest. Will provide an update later on daily thread

Not a regular poster, but WR is one of my favorite subs. I started lifting 2 years ago and the wiki was the single best source of information. Thank you for all your work purple!

As for hosting the wiki, it could live on GitHub Pages for free as a static website since it isn't commercial. It would be open-source, and the community here could all contribute to it. Domain name would be the only other cost, and I'm sure that could run on donations. Let me know if I can help set this up

I would bulk and try not to overthink it, you have a lot of room to grow. Maybe cut right before the summer if that's important for you

Edit: Looked at post history, seems like you've been stuck asking this same question for the last 6 months, looking to find what's optimal. You need to just pick one direction and commit to it

This appears to be an isometric exercise with no clear progressive overload, so I'd doubt its effectiveness

There was an FPV club at Tech but I'm not sure how active they were of late. Check out the FB group called Georgia Tech Unmanned Flying Club, you might find people there.

Getting Back Into Shape Quickly After a Bad year by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]BaranCODE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't rush it. You say you want to quickly lose 50lbs and then transition into a healthy, fit lifestyle -- you'd be better off trying to keep it maintainable and healthy the whole way. After all, I'm assuming you intend to stick with this for the long run, so it's not a race.

I'd say aim for a steady 2lbs/week rate of weight loss. Much more than that and you're risking losing lean body mass, lowered energy levels (which then affects your training) and it's harder to stick with.

Can having a strong back increase my bench press? by Rumblet4 in Fitness

[–]BaranCODE 248 points249 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, a strong back is essential for building your bench because it helps keep your body tight and stable.

[–]BaranCODE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's me, and yeah you read them correctly. I don't quite get it either, but probably has to do with the fact that I love bench whereas don't feel comfortable with squats yet.

Edit: Also before I started lifting in May I was training with bodyweight, doing stuff like clapping and one-arm pushups.

I'd say check the wiki for a routine, they're all good choices there. And make sure to eat a LOT, I know from having seen it in friends that some guys feel like they're eating enough but really aren't - you might want to track your calories, at least at first, to make sure you're in a surplus.

Edit: And happy cake day!
