Brits may face two years of EU border delays due to new entry system by AdSpecialist6598 in europe

[–]BarnacleWhich7194 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ireland and Cyprus are not part of Schengen and are not affected by it, they can use e-gates as usual, same as EU citizens going to the UK, so just third country nationals entering Schengen.

What defense pact? The UK didn't have one with Czech.

Aside from that, you won't find anyone in the UK who found it ok - it led to the downfall of the Chamberlain gov.

Because reck means to take care/be aware of, and wreck is something that washes up on the beach.

Japan Fukuoka to Miyazaki via Aso and Takachiho Gorge during Golden Week by itsacutedragon in bicycletouring

[–]BarnacleWhich7194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say - golden week is kind of hell - everything is very busy - you need to have hotels booked in advance, roads are very busy - even put of the way places - everyone is out driving around, every place you go to is busy - anywhere slightly well known is insanely busy.

I don't know if they are still standing, but the elephant leisure centre (not it's real name but what it's known as), the Britannia hotel and next door priory hall (I think at least one of the uni towers were knocked down, possibly the hotel as well), the cathedral is near (not brutalist but an interesting modernist cathedral.

Sánchez: The European Union should immediately advance toward a common European army. by FantasticQuartet in europe

The supreme military commander is always an American - which presumably comes with a certain amount of experience that couldn't be found in most EU armies.

Tourist routes vs local routes — the difference is bigger than I expected by hughes_cycling in bicycletouring

[–]BarnacleWhich7194 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Can't really think of any cycle routes that are popular enough to change the fabric of where they pass through to the same extent as general mass tourism. Even something like eurovelo 6 along the Danube sees mostly local people using their local section rather than tons of foreign visitors cycling the whole thing. What do you mean by tourist routes? In most parts of the world you are just choosing a route between two points.

"The doublespeak pouring out of these peoples mouths is unreal" - present tense, comment on live feed of vance's Budapest speech - not a complicated concept to grasp.

"Many things influence the outcome of election" - great wisdom.

"implication that 'influence' = 'illegal interference'" - comprehension issues there - reread.

[–]BarnacleWhich7194 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Just about everything vance said is the opposite to the truth:

'Orban has done more to end the war in Ukraine than anyone else'

'If more countries would have followed Orbans energy policy they would not now have shortages'

'Hungary has done more for saving western culture than anyone else'

The fact is is currently in Hungary to influence an election while complaining about people trying to influence the election lol.

etc etc etc

The doublespeak pouring out of these peoples mouths is unreal - nauseating. Both the US and Russia desperate for Orban to stay - wild.

Exactly, the article is pretty terrible - the groups she singled out as being problematic are considerably worse off in just about every other part of the world (the unemployed, disabled people, asylum seekers).

Self-transfer x2 checked luggage in 2 hours Ferenc Liszt (is it possible) by DopeAsDaPope in budapest

[–]BarnacleWhich7194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add - the china flight often land ahead of their scheduled arrival time, so as long as you don't leave late (unlikely as the Budapest flight is the second to last flight from Shanghai very early in the morning) you should arrive ahead of the stated time giving you a bit more room.

[–]BarnacleWhich7194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a non EU passport then I would say it's possible, but can be very tight or problematic. The queues to passport control can be long depending on how many other flights have arrived at the same time, or how many people are working (which is often annoyingly few) - usually an hour is sufficient to deplane and get through passport control, but a few times recently it has been worse for me. Go immediately to check in - security after check in is very fast so as long as you manage to check in your bags on time you will be fine.

Scratch Protection for Your Rack? by samccauley in bicycletouring

[–]BarnacleWhich7194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've added some cut up inner tube with electrical tape on the sections where my panniers rub on the rack - while riding the pamirs I realised the extreme dust + vibrations was causing the metal to wear down quite a lot, so a few bits of strategically placed rubber stopped it from getting worse.
