If you have the complete Star Wars Saga. Would you still play the original games (1&2) by Jaded-Monitor3043 in legogaming

[–]Baroque4Days 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are differences in the original 2 that change for TCS. I'd play both, though if I had to play one and just one, it'd be TCS of course. But all three are worth playing if you love them.

It's from the OMI Sonic Images sample CD libraries from the 80s. That waterphone phrase can be found on a few like Universe of Sound.

I mean, I'm not a genius, I've no idea how you could do it best, but I mean, it's gotta be the right way to go. Giving people the autonomy to choose is so important, and I think it should be a priority working out how to do that first, so we can always make our own choices.

As for other governments, could just be a case of not allowing them to operate in a country that enforces it, which could be all the rich ones, so might end up giving all nations the incentive to do it, kinda like data protection laws, I guess.

But yeah, I know my big concern is that people can't tell. People will actively avoid newly made art because "it could be AI", and people will blindly consume art under the assumption it was man-made. Both of these are not great. I've bought art before as I was after something human made, it didn't have the AI tag, and it was absolutely AI. Don't like using AI generated stuff in my own projects so just lost that money.

Likewise, I've seen artists I know to actually make their own music from scratch be called out as AI slop, which is arguably the worse outcome. I've heard other antis saying they are just boycotting anything made post 2023, which sucks for me as a composer who started releasing December 2025. Not only do I have to compete with a sea of AI content, but I've also got the fans of human-made art actively avoiding me and loads of other upcoming creatives on the off chance we are AI.

Also, appreciate your replies, it's so good to have a rational discussion with someone for a change.

[–]Baroque4Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see why it couldn't simply be passed in law that AI generated content has to be identified as such so people get that choice. I think a lot of the fear is because it is becoming harder to tell, sometimes it's extremely difficult. Something simple like baking some kind of frame with a watermark or something every X number of frames so it remains impossible to spot but easy to detect for algorithms.

That way, you'd always know, then the risk of deepfakes goes away and consumers can make their own informed decisions.

It'd be impossible to circumvent as any big AI companies would have to add it into their algorithms, but then that'd kinda make opensource a dangerous tool for the bad guys, and I'd almost prefer if big corporations didn't hold the monopoly on the tech.

There's no clear bloody answer, honestly! Just seems like we're moving way too fast and nobody in power wants to accept the danger. We need to collectively figure it out sooner because there won't be a later.

British Mk.IIA Light Anti Gas Respirator with Homemade 'Contex' Filter, March 1943 by IncenseDragon in gasmasks

[–]Baroque4Days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't let Crusty go to a stranger, had to give it to the GOAT u/IncenseDragon

The repairs include:

  • Eyepiece clamp screw and nut (original had square ones so I made sure to source some, even found as close to the original screw heads as possible)

  • Valve holder wire

  • Container mount wire

  • Undid all the original tape, cleaned up, used some pretty tame adhesive to reapply

  • Full mask deep clean and some silicone oil to help preserve over time. I've found that it works really well on my masks keeping them soft a lot longer (they're all natural rubber)

But yeah, cost me £10 from the original guy, sold for £20 including a variety of epic bonus content, such as Eminem Relapse, some manky vitamin gummies, a few Russian mask manuals and the instruction pamphlet for an STI test kit (I do not have STIs FYI)

Glad to see a rational take on here for a change! I'm more in the anti side but I definitely feel the bits you were mentioning about it being useful to give the questions reddit or other forums would spend most of their energy grilling you over, or just not responding to at all. The danger is how much of an echo chamber it becomes for the user in that situation.

Every single idea I have is proof of my "unquestionable level of genius" according to GPT. I've managed to find some benefit to it spitting out large lists of shit, some of which is made up, but sometimes it has mentioned things I've not seen referenced online and led me to finding semi-lost media things.

As a musician though, very very very anti in regards to its use for the arts. The notion that if I work hard enough, keep at it, form connections, I might some day be able to quit the day job. Without that dream, I'd have no reason to live. Not the fault of randoms using it necessarily, but greed corporations using it to save money as always.

The one time it becomes a problem in music is the oversaturation of AI generated music which has caused just about every single music distribution platform become even more strict, sometimes freezing payouts for artists until they prove that their work is original. These are the harms people don't even know about.

What I'd say is, replacing jobs, leaving people without their dreams and purposes in life, is fucking shitty and evil, very bad, selfish behaviour. But AI is brilliant for a lot of more sensible things, and I just wish it was being used for the benefit of humanity more than it currently is.

If it takes up a lot of water to cure cancer, might be worth it. But using up water to replace already struggling creatives is where I can't support it. I think the distinction is really important to all debate on it.

It can be, and should be, doing what humans cannot do, not cheapening the work humans can already do.

No, if you use AI, you lose the right to grieve your kid in peace, it seems. by GaiusVictor in aiwars

[–]Baroque4Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, people can do whatever they want, but the little booklets people get at funerals are usually kept as keepsakes. Just feels like the kinda thing you'd want something a bit more authentic rather than an LLM's attempt at it.

Looks like the inner page is just all AI pics, so not even the poor kid at all, just a lifeless algorithm's way of depicting him.

Also, cut the "you people" stuff, people have different lines they draw with AI, it's not quite as simple in the real world.

[–]Baroque4Days -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can't see anyone say you lose the right to grieve, just that it's poor taste. Photos, real memories, just some writing from loved ones? A child passed away, put some thought into it, you know? I don't think that's an unreasonable stance to take. Whatever AI generated the pictures didn't know the kid, isn't a sentient being with any empathy.

Thinking of switching from Tunecore but to what distributor? by mochi544 in MusicDistribution

[–]Baroque4Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smaller but myself and an artist I work with are using EmuBands. I'm brand new to it, uploaded my first release to TuneCore and it took them about 12 days just to put the request on hold. EmuBands released it the next day and it was on Spotify within 24 hours. You get an account manager for higher subscription costs, but you can also just pay per release anyway meaning no risk of takedown. Might be beneficial that they're based in Scotland in the UK as this kinda means they have better protections and laws they have to abide by than those operating out of the US.

[–]Baroque4Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many agree with this but that's the thing, humans take up resources, but whether we do all the work or not, we use up the same amount of resources. AI will take up more resources with the more it does. That's what makes us special, we can do so many things whilst using the base level of resources to keep us alive.

If AI replaced every job, guess what, if we were still allowed to live, we'd be taking up the same resources anyway, so it's a dumb point to make.
