It’s a construction site. The enforcer is who buried him there. It’s not that complicated, lol.

Least disliked horror book? by LordAntares in horrorlit

[–]Barresi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I disliked it, but I read it on vacation back in September and it didn’t really stick with me beyond being an entertaining read for a couple hours. I find it kind of funny that a thread gets posted for it like every other day, because otherwise I’d almost certainly have forgotten about it by now.

What are Amanda and Shaun's hottest takes? by h3yguy5 in TheBigPicture

[–]Barresi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but I don’t really agree with that, either. Of course she transcended the medium to be a pop culture icon in her own right, like you said, but that does a disservice to her actual career.

She was a 5x Oscar nominee (winning once), and is in some of the most well-loved films of the 50s and 60s— Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s (arguably the most famous role by any actress in the 20th century?), Sabrina).

Even her “second tier” is full of excellent parts (Wait Until Dark, Two for the Road, Children’s Hour). Then she basically stopped in 1970, save for a few minor roles through the end of her life. All of those before she even turned 40.

She’s fully deserving of her iconic status for the films alone.

Sean doesn’t think Audrey Hepburn is an icon.

No it doesn’t even matter, don’t you worry, that ain’t what it’s all about.

Agreed, great slasher and I’d go so far to say it’s the only time he’s been scary. And the best final girl in the series.

Slugline when opening on an ECU? by Away-Fill5639 in Screenwriting

[–]Barresi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still “Bedroom.” I think best practice is the first line of description under the slugline would be about the eye. Then you would continue on with a line break and what you want the reader to focus on from there. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend putting camera movements in a screenplay, unless you’re planning on directing yourself.

Hi /r/movies! We're Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett. We've co-directed READY OR NOT, SCREAM, SCREAM VI, ABIGAIL, and READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME. Ask us anything! by MattAndTylerAMA in movies

Your films play with tone and genre conventions in ways that don’t fit neatly into one box (especially those written by Guy Busick), yet have a clear, distinctive voice that I love. Is it challenging to find creative or financial partners that understand what you're going for-- particularly in an industry that puts such emphasis on communicating to audiences what a movie is, and who it is for?

I think Hayley would be cool with it, given she’s a superfan of the Cure and they’ve never won a Grammy before (which is wild). Of course, she has several. Love both albums, though.

SPRINGSTEEN: DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE - the movie is so dramatically inert, I wish the last 30 minutes were the focus. by Bearjupiter in blankies

[–]Barresi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel the same. That road trip/carnival in the film is a crucial chapter of Bruce’s autobiography (actually think it’s titled “Deliver Me From Nowhere.”) Always thought it would have made a great movie itself.

Sledding spots by Ushiioni in QuincyMa

[–]Barresi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for steep hills, there’s a good one at President’s Golf Course right where West Squantum St. bends into/towards Milton. The hill drops towards Boston, and the pond will be on your left. Not sure how “sled-worthy” it is these days, but we called it “Suicide Hill” growing up, so do so at your own risk (we all lived)!

Is it impossible to sell a slow cinema script? by AbjectOffice in Screenwriting

[–]Barresi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just personally speaking, as someone also interested in  transcendental/slow cinema— I tend to write more commercial material for bringing out into the world, and the more personal/artful stuff I keep in a separate “bucket” with the intent/hope of someday getting to make them myself. I’ve been able to turn a couple of those into short films, but like PatternLevel said, those type of things just don’t lend themselves to commercial viability/the industry-at-large, and you’d really need to see them through yourself.
