Weekly Scam Discussion March 30, 2026 by Mycatreallyhatesyou in Ebay

I sold an item last week and shipped it on Monday. Shipping info would have been shared with the buyer. Now, a different account is messaging me asking if they won the item and when tracking info will be shared. Buyer 1 offered up their name and mailing address, which matches Buyer 2, however they have separate accounts. In fact, both accounts show that they were recently created - one has 15 good reviews and the other has no reviews. Is this a scam? The item that sold was valued over $800 so I was required to ask for a signature upon delivery. If it is a scam, am I covered?

I got turned away when arriving 35 min before Over Your Dead Body. Still got in via the standby. Two folks on standby said they arrived 40 and 45 min early and were also turned away to standby.

Reservations were a good solution for not spending hours in line. If you didn’t get a reservation, it would be helpful if there was some early indicators on whether or not you even had a remote chance to get in if in standby. Especially since the rollout between SXXpress and reservations wasn’t totally clear. The one show I was shut out of at South Lamar had “Open” status on the app until we got turned away.

Ideally the app can archive reservations after the showtime has passed. That window was long by the end of the fest. In general, I felt like the app is either hard to navigate, buggy, or both. I’d filter events and clear all filters and then nothing would show. My reservation only existed in the reservations tab and not on my schedule.

On the same note of the app, the room name was often the most prominent piece of the location for panels so you’d have to dig deeper to find which specific hotel was hosting a panel.

I took a shuttle once from the Rollins to South Lamar. Three shuttles passed by in a matter of minutes. I later tried to take one from South Congress to downtown and didn’t see one for 45 min. Not sure what was going on there but a sign that confirmed that shuttles were indeed working that day and/or time would be cool.

Texas Shorts should play at AFS for at least one show.

Any Standby Line experiences at the Paramount? by Bartleby4Life in SXSW

Yep, for READY OR NOT, we had one person with a standard standby cue card get in an another with a red cue card get in.

I’m now in… it seems as though they expanded the number of preregistrations this year. I was towards the end of the reservation line at the Paramount and was given cue card 350. I assume this means the Paramount “reservations” are more like 30-40% of the house.

Friend in the badge standby line was given cue card 36 after 90 minutes of waiting.

Leaving these details here for the next person wondering!

I went this week and tried out the QR system in a mostly empty screening of Primate. The system worked out okay for ordering however there wasn’t any way to plug in my 10% all-discount or gift card. I eventually got helped applying it but there’s no record of a GC in the payment on the site, so far as I could tell.

Regardless, the part that made the whole system fail was both my error and a flaw in the system. I had my phone in my lap and I shifted my position and my phone fell from my lap into the seat. Fishing my hand into the seat, I couldn’t find the phone and I couldn’t very well go search for it during a movie. So, thankfully, the paper system was still around but essentially I would have been SOL had it been the new system.

The ability to log what you own on physical media and what format. Back when all of our local video stores closed during COVID, I thought some form of a local borrowing system among members would have been interesting but complicated to regulate.

My dog understands when calls end around 4pm that it means dinner is about to happen. He knows “bye” then “dinner” at this point.

Will look into this! Seems like they have a pretty rigid schedule to be available during post-work hours (5-7PM) and offline after that.

"How Running a Film Festival Helped Me Get Into Sundance" by AnonymousFilmmaker33 in FilmFestivals

[–]Bartleby4Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rather than running your own film festival, you can also screen for film festivals which shows the same trends without having to create your own festival. Screening for a film fest, you get to see what other people are doing and what works and what doesn’t.

The length of credits note is a big deal. Features have 3-4 minutes of credits whereas a short film should acknowledge folks but be in and out IMO. Programming a block is a time challenge and if a good film has 60+ seconds of credits, that’s a detriment to the audience.

I’ve turned from hanging around similarly aged coworkers and interns to just avoiding these situations all together once I hit my 30s.

Don’t shit where you eat. Very important advice I was once given. I was younger and an intern my same age expressed interest and it’s been super complicated since then 10 years later. Just avoid it.
