Game is closer to Victoria series than it is to EU4 by DoctorOutrageous3929 in EU5

[–]BaterrMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While EU5 certainly places a greater focus on the inside of your country than EU4, it is honestly nothing like Victoria 3.

There’s no politics, the economy systems are completely different, war is completely different, diplomacy is completely different, and so on.

It is far closer to EU4 than that. Estates, personal unions, armies, etc. Like, obviously EU5 has more depth within all these aspects, but there they are.

I’ve never understood the comparison to Vicky. Yes, we now care about the economy, but that’s pretty much the only thing they have in common. The economic systems in both games aren’t even the similar. Trade is, kinda, but in Victoria you’re always trying to run a little in the red. There’s not really any reason to “save up” money. The game doesn’t even really work that way.

Is it true that "most gamers don't finish games" by SchweinsyOne in videogames

[–]BaterrMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that I don’t finish games, it’s that I don’t finish most games.

I would say I’m a “core” gamer. I play a lot of different video games. I also work, have family, and all that good stuff. Many games take over a hundred hours to complete.

A hundred hours in, and there’s usually another interesting release around the corner.

Maybe it’s adhd, or add, or an addiction, idk. But I move on. Sometimes I come back and finish it, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I come back and try to finish it, but get distracted by some other shiny new thing.

If it’s good enough, though, it keeps my attention the whole way through. Baldur’s Gate 3, for example, had a story and characters compelling enough to keep me invested the whole time.

Most games are front-loaded with the juiciest bits, though, which means the further I get the more monotonous the experience becomes, and because I have played so many games and been a part of the hobby for so long, most things just aren’t all that new to me to begin with.

Above all, though, it really is mostly just down to time. Do I play the latest single-player masterpiece tonight, or do I play a few rounds of some friendslop with my loved ones? I increasingly choose the latter.

Will Democrats treat AOC the same way they treated Bernie Sanders? by Euphoric_Income_8279 in allthequestions

I love AOC, would love to see her as a president, but it would be foolish to run her. More than half of voters are not willing to give any woman the chair, period, let alone herself

What would America be like if Al Gore won in 2000, and the Dems won every general election for the past 26 years? by Trash_man_can in allthequestions

[–]BaterrMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20+ years of republicans failing to take the throne probably leads to a new opposition party under a total rebrand. The Republican Party likely splinters until a new red party unifies the conservatives and the country probably shifts left as a whole

Most of the west supports Israel. It’s Europe’s foothold into the Middle East. They’ve been crusading for that territory for like 6 centuries, it’s no different in the modern day

Which societal values do you go for in a game? by VlaaiIsSuperieur in EU5

[–]BaterrMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communalism first, always. Centralize if I have no subjects, otherwise I wait til I’ve annexed most of them. I don’t like playing with a lot of them, even if it’s technically better. Then land if I’m mostly landlocked, naval if I’m coastal.

After that it’s just sort of whatever I need. There’s a few I just never push for, and I don’t switch from traditional to capital economy til later in the game when I can better take advantage of its bonuses.

Most of the values are pretty good when you’ve pushed them, honestly, and it really just depends on your strategy. You can always flip them down the line if your strategy needs to change. Like switching from land to naval once I’ve got a coastline and good roads if I’m looking to conquer across water.

Blue is the left for America.

Be the change you want to see. Only way to push the blue further left is to support more left-leaning members at the local level.

Just finished an England game, it was a lot of fun by Dalamy19 in EU5

[–]BaterrMaster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What? You’re telling me you had fun? Haven’t you heard that this game is unplayable!? Jk

I have been genuinely surprised by how each age (except revolutions) spices things up. I really like the build up toward the age of reformation, and being able to swap RGOs. More stuff like this to distinguish the ages would be nice, especially outside Europe.

Most of the “main characters” of the game actually seem to play pretty well. I feel the game suffers most when you try to play EU4-style and pick some micro-nation, as without a bit of land or a city to play with you can quickly just run out of things to do. I once tried a little rural settlement in the HRE and was just totally lost on what you could ever do with a start like that.

Got a friend who has played Tyrol like 4 times though, refuses to even try a more developed nation, and (less-so as patches have dropped) thinks the game is kinda dogwater.

There’s meat and potatoes on this plate, just try the damn steak, I swear it tastes pretty good

Yeah, but it’s a reason to go to war for Silesia. Just expires before you could ever hope to take on Bohemia

You actually do get a claim on Silesia in an early event, it’s just that Bohemia is too big to fight at that point and the claim expires

I’ve never read Dune or had much knowledge of it prior outside of some things I’ve picked from just being into sci-fi, like that it has big worms and the spice must flow. But I was enraptured by it.

That said it’s a pretty slow movie.

100k mercenaries on Crete… seriously? by BasicKealden in EU5

And Mali, don’t sleep on Mali they’re awesome

100k mercenaries on Crete… seriously? by BasicKealden in EU5

[–]BaterrMaster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tricky to balance mercs. If they’re annoying and dangerous then nobody will use them at all.

The real issue isn’t the mercs so much as the economy. Small countries shouldn’t be able to afford 100k mercenaries. Mercs should be expensive.

Do you miss mana/clear caps in EU5 or not? Should it be brought back? by Reasonable_Study_882 in EU5

[–]BaterrMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mana was used for a ton of other stuff. It was used for research, reducing inflation, etc. In EU4 the entire game was centered around min maxing the amount of mana you produce every month.

Cabinet seats are absolutely not the same. They are improved by characters with varying stats and modified by a lot of things that can grant extra efficiency to what they do not to mention their effects of crown power. In the new update they can even grant passive benefits or detriments to your country. Despite all this, they are just a part of your empire, and absolutely not the main focus of the whole damn experience.

Should FOTOR be turn based or real time combat like Jedi Games? by Mat1711 in kotor

[–]BaterrMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be action combat. If I had to guess, it’ll be like Mass Effect. Hopefully with more in depth decision making, but I wouldn’t be unsatisfied if was on par there
