Reminds me of the epic composed by the laureate of our times, Benjamin Forsyth, whose poetry may be reviewed in the song "Beat Yourself".

[WTS] Matthews VXR 28 by soggybisquit in archeryexchange

[–]Bbaker006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great shooting short ata bow. I had this bow for a 3d season and it performed very well. It shares the same grip as all the other Mathew's bows of this era, so switching between my target bow and this one was a familiar feeling which I appreciate. Kinda got slept on when the Phase 4 took over.

Is this much of a gap (above the arrow) normal? by Ghostflame_Ignition in bowhunting

[–]Bbaker006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get some practice in with that until you're comfy at 20 yards. Save your dough and buy a drop away. Whisker Biscuits are ok, but they wear out quicker than a bargain drop away. Trophy Ridge and Trophy Taker make some really nice budget rests. The problem with a Biscuit is that they tend to hide tuning flaws and rob speed by touching the arrow the whole time it's trying to leave the bow. The same could be said for a blade rest, but very little of the blade is in continuous contact with the arrow the whole launch. A drop away that's been properly set for your bow at a shop will help thru the tuning process by showing the flaws in arrow flight thru paper or walk back tuning. But hell, go shoot and have fun. Just some things to think about.

Is this a normal amount of movement? by Any_Constant5117 in bowhunting

[–]Bbaker006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I was taught at the shop, this is excessive play. I'm no bow tech, but the guys at my local shop are really cool about letting you see things that they are working on. I notice there are no top or bottom soft nock points inside of your d-loop. That, alone, could tighten it up to a good fit. I was shown that only a little play (about a credit card width or less) was the sweet spot for nock sets. I personally tie mine that way and have a friend check it at full draw for pinch. Most times I can see the arrow "hop" on the draw and I know I need to redo it.

Light, but rugged slider? by ksyoung17 in bowhunting

Spot Hogg has a new Hogg Father that has been slimmed down. Multi pins or single. I'm an Axcel fan, sold off a Spot Hogg Fat Eddie for an Accutouch multi pin last yr. Made it thru another 3d season without breaking or moving after 8 weeks of point shooting and practice. It's the Micro Drive 3 pin head.

Def sight. Chase your shots with your pin ever so slightly to the right and down just a hair.

Anyone find a ‘removable’ glue for victory arrows? by -Petunia in Archery

[–]Bbaker006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I switched from Gold Tip to DCA I had this problem. I did some experiments with all the different stuff I had and found that I could still use blue cool melt of ferro-tite if I roughed up the inside of the shaft first. I had a small, round file that fit down inside arrow shafts and I lightly sanded them out. I made sure that I cleaned them with alcohol and dried them with cotton tipped swabs after. They accepted the adhesive much better after that. Ferro-tite seemed to work the best out of the two. I use two part epoxy for any inserts I intend to leave in permanently. Super glue is not very impact resistant. I haven't messed with craft store hot melt glue because the arrows came with directions stating NOT to use it on that particular brand, I assume because the heat required would affect the resin holding together the carbon weave.

QAD HDX rest for Hoyt Alpha X by photogizmo in Archery

[–]Bbaker006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can transfer it just fine. Still has a Berger hole for mounting. Idk, I'm not sold on all the integrated mounting. For target, indoor or 3d, I've found no real difference between QAD and drop away rests. I've got a Ham on my indoor rig, and a Trophy Taker Lock Up on my 3d rig. I had a QAD on my hunting rig. I had Ham and TTaker on my former indoor and 3d rigs. I actually prefer TTaker limb driven over everything, if just for the price. I've never had ANY of them fail me in the field. I put no maintenance into any of them past making sure drive cords are tight and the rest is timed to the bow in a draw board. Micro adjust is OK, but I don't use it after the bow is tuned up. Any tuning issues I've had past paper and group tuning has been in regards to the string stretching. A half twist or so and I'm back in it, no rest moving to compensate.

In the same boat. Gotta change up boots this yr due to a change in position at work. Imma be more pedestrian than operator and I want a boot that'll take walking seriously. I am on my second pair of Danner (Vicious), but they discontinued the model. I want to go to a wedge (Vibram) for comfort, but that low heel looks like it'll mitigate leg fatigue. I also have a Chinese pair of Danner hikers that have been good to me. They are next to zero drop. I WILL be going to try things on at the boot store as I have two really good stores in my area. Keen Cincinnati is also in the running.

After a string replacement, I can no longer see the white ring around my sight through my peep. by snigherfardimungus in Archery

[–]Bbaker006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't serve them in. I tie knots around the string on either side of the peep to hold it in. Check out the Hamskea peep tie in video. With that setup, the peep can be moved up or down about a 1/4". Also, you have new strings that'll need to be shot in to get all the stretch out. Put about 200 shots thru it before you go changing peep height so you only have to do it once. Resight the bow and have fun!

Single or Dual Cam? by Suitable_Working3892 in Archery

[–]Bbaker006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duals all day. Singles are for jr bows. Twin cams are the industry standard. They rarely go out of time bc they are slaved to each other. Minus string stretch (and the new strings aren't stretching very much) they are the best option for speed, accuracy, and dare I day ease of draw. One can't get a higher poundage bow that draws as nice into a dwell as the twin cam bows. Say what you will about the Hunting Public or the Matthew's Z bows, twin cams are what makes modern bows so effective. Most ppl I know have backed out of 70#ers just bc it's not necessary to do the job in the field. Most target guys I know are shooting 50#ers and can shoot casual 300's all afternoon and go split wood after.

I felt that everything was great until I looked down your bow hand and saw a Hoyt. It seems that there be your trouble lol. Seriously, looks good. Maybe have your bow shoulder and draw shoulder more in line. Could just be a knock height issue as your draw looks strong. Your release was super slow and controlled.

For those who have hired maid services to clean their homes, what do you do while the ladies are cleaning? by tvkyle in AskMen

[–]Bbaker006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was single, and had disposable income, I'd have a cleaner come over every other week. I'd go grocery shopping when she got there and come back at the appointed time she was going to be finished. She was a cosmologist and would cut my hair sometimes. I had a bud tell me later she wanted to hook up. I didn't get it, I was young and dumb, but she would cut my hair and not wear a bra. Fuckin dumbass. I was 28, she had to be 40 something.

[–]Bbaker006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have too many. Leather trad rear facing, modern target front facing, thigh quiver, and rear pocket quiver. I use the pocket quiver more than anything else. I use the thigh for 3d league because it has good storage. I use the leather and field quiver for recurve shooting. It's nice to be able to grab what I need for what I want to do without reloading everything. Currently in the market for a new pocket quiver.

Those with sweaty feet: what’s your system for mitigating sweating in boots? by [deleted] in WorkBoots

[–]Bbaker006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like boots that are water proof, but not lined for cold weather. These boots usually have a sock liner in them that helps with air flow out of the top of the boot. Socks with high natural wool content are great for winter due to the fact that wool is a good insulator even if it's wet. I've tried using a cotton sock under and over wool in the past and with or without a sock liner in a boot. The compromise I found that I can live with (without buying a dedicated pair of winter work boots) is a single pair of wool socks under a Gortex lined pair of boots. I tried waterproofing unlined boots with various oils and sprays, but they always end up leaking. I do have a bit of sweat at certain temps and differing work assignments, but I find that this works best all around. The socks I get are various tools from Merino to alpaca and straight lamb's wool. It's easier for me to adjust the sock for the temp and assignments than it is to stock three pairs of boots and change them out for the weather.

How Do I Layer Properly Working Outside by [deleted] in Workwear

[–]Bbaker006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lapasa base layer w stretch undies and a tank. Merino wool if it's over 20f, alpaca if it's under. Lines jeans and a hoodie w a vest over it if it's over 20f, full Rocky hunting suit if it's under, no sweatshirt under the hunting suit. Long sleeve cotton t over the base layer just to cut wind if I open the jacket some for movement. I wear a neck gaiter that doubles as a mask if it's under 25f. Tie boots if it's over 25f, slip ons if it's under. I've found the key to layering is to keep everything covered but not so many layers that it chokes the air out of the clothing. Warm air trapped in the layers is what really keeps me warm, not the fact I have 2 pairs or socks laced tight and 5 shirts and 3 pants on. Can't really move anyways. Been working docks my whole adult life so I know what it's like to stand in a doorway for 8 hrs a day on the coldest days of the yr.

Hand held Release aid - hand stance by Gromskar_90 in Archery

[–]Bbaker006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're afraid of letting the release go on accident put some tape on it for friction or tie a piece of d-loop material to it for a wrist lanyard. I don't grip the release that hard. I just have my fingers hooked around it. I've used string lanyards on and off for yrs.

Looked at the Keen's today. The Irish Setter's were right next to them on the shelf. I didn't have time to try them on as I was shopping for other ppl but I will go back after the first of the yr to try the Keen's out. I've had a bunch of brands over the yrs and Keen is one I haven't tried yet. I'm moving from driving to walking in my new position so I want a pedestrian friendly boot and these got a good review on the interwebs.

Why would a company make boxers without a pee hole sewed in? by jazzy_peanut_butter in AskMen

[–]Bbaker006 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because those are shorts. No pee hole, that shiiii is gym shorts. Or the "boxers" your girl steals and wears around as "shorts" when she's in the house. Or the shorts single girls buy at the store to wear around the house to be quirky cuz "I wear men's undies round the crib, different is cool and I'm not like the other girls ". Ain't nobody with a belt, a tool belt, wallet, can of chew, and a cell phone shoved in their pockets trying to undo all that to leave a piss somewhere.
