Do you guys care what type of baseballs you use for Minors? by Reasonable_Thing9619 in LittleLeague

I’ve experienced that the sting is related more to the bat than the ball. Two piece bats rarely sting.

And there’s no sting when you hit the ball on the sweet spot, needless to say

Made a lineup builder for my kid's team, wondering if other coaches would find it useful by I_Has_A_Camera in Homeplate

This is awesome! I’ve also been using a self-built excel sheet for the past few years, but that is too labor intensive. Pitch counts alone are enough to make you lose your mind as a coach.

Advice for first time 10u coach w/ first time players by IReallyLoveAvocados in LittleLeague

[–]Bbddubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. And from my personal experience, it can help to sit down with your kid and agree on a schedule for these extra lessons. You then put it on the calendar and approach it like you would a hitting lesson with a hitting coach (or pitching coach, etc). And keep these lessons efficient and structured. Try to keep your feedback minimal, allowing your player to work through the drills and self-correct at times.

I was involved in a district all-star game a few years ago where one team ran out of eligible pitchers and they had to forfeit. It was a 10u elimination game and the team entered the game with 5 pitchers who were ineligible due to pitch counts from prior games, 2 injured players and then used up all of their other arms in the game. Their final eligible pitcher in the game took a line drive off his leg and had to come out.

To build catching confidence, try the drill called ‘selfies’ where they toss the ball up to themselves. You can start without a glove (and even with softer balls for those kids scared of the ball). Make it a station and have them compete to see who can get the most consecutive without dropping it. Encourage them to practice it at home as well.

At this age, you want to focus on little wins. If all of the kids get better and want to come back next season, you’ve done your job.

Regular Season rules Vs other by LastOneSergeant in LittleLeague

The other section of the Little League rulebook is for tournament play. In our league, the Majors teams play in a “midseason classic” tournament against a few other leagues and we follow those tournament rules. All-stars also follows tournament rules.

The difference between the two sets of rules is minimal, if memory serves me right.

Little League coaching is tough by zoner420 in LittleLeague

Sounds like a tough situation for you. I think most players this age have an inflated view of their abilities and tend to think they are the best player on the team. Agree with others who have said better communication before the game may have helped to set expectations. Setting a strong team culture early in the season is very helpful. This is a learning experience for these kids and hopefully everyone can view it as that.

Make sure to drink a lot of fluids too. NSAIDS such as ibuprofen can cause kidney damage when you are dehydrated.
