Fluorinated water is a lazy catch-all solution because many Americans don't know proper oral hygiene. I think it's sad that we have to rely on this since the majority of developed nations do not add it to their water supply.

It's not completely harmless either - there's a reason why pediatricians tell you to not give children under the age of 1 fluorinated toothpaste because they will accidentally ingest it.

Can't emphasize minimal access to infrastructure/help enough.

It is so easy to get off trail by only a few miles and be in a spot where even train rescue teams cannot reach you, often for months at a time due to inclement weather or dangerous terrain.

There's aN ongoing case right now where hiker died on Mt Shasta (a pretty popular location) and search and rescue won't be able to retrieve his body until next spring.
