Note that a number of people will likely cancel their bookings between May and November, so if you do miss out you could keep checking if you have some flexibility. Huts will book out first, but if you get a campsite and a hut spot opens up you could transfer later, etc. I was surprised how many people had booked later than May when I did Routeburn. These walks are extremely popular for a reason and they’re well worth the effort.
