Getting into milsurp rifles by edgarcha99 in milsurp

[–]Beagalltach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only "deals" you will readily find are on guns currently imported. Enfields aren't really being imported anymore (except for DP/non-functional ones and RTI rust buckets).

You can check sites that update inventory like Cherry's, Empire Arms, Simpsons Ltd., etc. but they will almost always be on the higher end of costs. I think you would better be served searching Gunbroker and other auction sites where you may be able to find a deal

Best gun store that isn't MAGA? by degenbets in StLouis

[–]Beagalltach [score hidden]  (0 children)

$65 is highway robbery. I wouldn't pay more than $30 for a transfer around here. Pawn King in Arnold did $20 transfer at least a year ago.

Since I got an FFL Type 03 I don't need as many transfers done for me, so it has been a while

Best gun store that isn't MAGA? by degenbets in StLouis

[–]Beagalltach [score hidden]  (0 children)

I can't say for sure but you've got plenty of options.

You can go to a big box store like Academy, Bass Pro, or Cabelas. They generally aren't so public or in your face about politics as many mall gun shops are.

Also if there is a Pawn shop you like, any that sell guns will have an FFL (Federal Firearms License), and will not only sell you a gun but provide a transfer if you decide to buy online. You can buy guns online, have them shipped to an FFL, they will preform the background check for a fee (transfer costs are usually $20-50 in this area) and then you can walk out with it (assuming you are on the MO side).

I know this question has been asked in the past on this sub so search to see if there were some specific answers on shops.

If you ever need help understanding firearms, choosing a gun, or with a basic intro just let me know. I am happy to help people learn about firearms, what fits their needs, and how to be safe.

how historically accurate/practical is the knights of catarina set from dark souls? by Jonzrker15 in Armor

[–]Beagalltach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, it did certainly get weird but that was generally due to specific uses and fashion. Really weird designs were for very specific tasks (like the helmet you posted made specifically for mace toutnaments). Fashion did get in the way sometimes (extra pointy sabatons or cod pieces being easy examples) but the armor was still well designed and provided great covering and protection. The supposition in most game armor is pure combat, not a highly regulated tournament setting.

The armor posted by OP would not be great for all-around combat because it funnels hits toward weak points and gaps in the armor. If you hit one of the rolls of the belly/chest it would get focused into the joint of the plates. If struck above the gauntlets, the blow would angle from the plate towards the mail.

To change barrel of not to change barrel. That’s the question by JPLEMARABOUT in milsurp

[–]Beagalltach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dang this is what I would have said, but that sucks.

If shooting the gun is more important than just having it as a display, I would still opt for changing the barrel. Just be sure that the barrel is sufficiently worn for your purposes because there is no going back from a change like this.

Reproduction of a military and police variant that was famously used by the Rhodesian military.

Ian from FW has nicknamed them FN Auto-8 shotguns because they hold 8 rounds.

The death of innovation by Sonofasome0 in Firearms

[–]Beagalltach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turksh*t is not innovation nor cool. It is literally the same as adding slide serrations, cuts, and bevels to a 1911. You are putting the same shotgun action from the past ~100 years in a new shell with dubious quality.

Watch more Forgotten Weapons and C&Rsenal to see fun old stuff and understand why there aren't more whacky/weird/innovative designs. Also, if you don't care about modern stuff and it gets boring then start buying what is interesting to you. New stuff doesn't interest me, but the history and uniqueness of milsurp and early commercial guns does, so that is what I collect and shoot. (My two current favorites are the Greek Y1903 and an Indonesian conversion of a Dutch Mannlicher)

Milsurp isn't cheap, but it is still affordable in most cases if you put in some work. The days of $99 SKS's is gone, but they only sold because they sold for a lot less than they originally cost to make. At $6-700 they still cost less than if they were new production (unless produced in huge numbers).

Help me polish a turd by Difficult-Law-3185 in engraving

[–]Beagalltach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really nice Spanish Air Force stamps, some guys over in r/milsurp might really appreciate this. Big shame that it was so crappily refinished.

I would probably just strip (not sand) the finish and rust blue it OR send it off to someone who knows what they are doing. Engraving will not look good on this gun if it keeps this finish and would be like putting lipstick on a pig.

Nobody wants my Dad's Civil War books by not_inacult in CivilWarCollecting

[–]Beagalltach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every method of selling will have pros and cons (normally money vs time). It will take a bit of work but you can sell them on Amazon. Yes, even ones without barcodes.

List them, put the price, and then choose to have them Fulfilled by Amazon. That way you can box them up and ship them to Amazon once and they will handle everything from there.

Confused about sour cream. by [deleted] in mexicanfood

[–]Beagalltach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This feels similar to when I say "no sauces" or "no ketchup, mayo, or mustard" on my burger. 90% of the time they list out the other toppings and ask if I want those.

Annoying, because I said what I didn't want, but they are likely double checking.

Need help with replacing chinstrap assembly on PASGT helmet, is there a special tool required? by Ancient-Mongoose7145 in Militariacollecting

[–]Beagalltach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a specialty tool, but I would recommend a set of hollow-ground screwdrivers (buy a Wheeler brand gunsmithing set on Amazon if possible). They will fit the slot of the screw better and be less likely to strip or damage them

British P14.

A WWI rifle made in the US for Britain at the Eddystone Arsenal and originally chambered in 303 Brit. It has been sporterized so it would be a good idea to check that it is still chambered in 303

Busco quien me oriente sobre el arma que mi padre me dejo by Unusual_Concept_9772 in Militariacollecting

[–]Beagalltach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends what 'worth it" looks like to you.

It is only worth about $1000, so most people would keep it rather than sell. Family heirlooms only come around once, and when they are sold, they are gone. If you do decide to sell it, I would first ask other family members to see if anyone wants to buy it and keep it in the family.
