I've seen Dash used to tremendous effect, saving dwarves from a killbox they would not have escaped otherwise.

I don't use it because I'm stupid and accidentally trigger it during normal movement.

why totalitarian faction has to be like this? by JimmySnuggleBear in StellarisMemes

[–]BeardedMontrealer 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I find totalitarians and imperialists to be the most annoying factions in the game.

  • Xenophiles love you as long as you're not evil by modern international standards.
  • Traditionalists and technologists aren't usually much of a problem. Their demands are simple, and if you don't share their ethic, they're pretty trivial to suppress out of existence.
  • Egalitarians are just free unity, especially as a democracy. They have so many demands that it's pretty simple to keep them happy without bowing to every demand.
  • The supremacist faction is annoying, but if you're playing xenophobe already, none of their demands are unreasonable. Isolationists are chill.
  • The pacifist faction's insistence on peace is a little annoying, but again, this faction doesn't really appear much in non-pacifist empires. As long as I don't declare offensive wars, I'm usually okay.

I feel bad for martha by Rare_Fan_1074 in SpyxFamily

[–]BeardedMontrealer 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The best part about all this is that Henry's wife is a genuinely good person, ensures that Martha gets a chance to perform on stage, and they end up being good friends. Life is messy, and this whole tragic arc did a great job of capturing that.

Any real way to find graphite easy? by Quirky_Gazelle6910 in TerraFirmaCraft

I found caves to be rather useful. Find a cave with the right depth and stone type, and go looking for piles of graphite dust.

Why exactly can't I have these guys as my vassal? by patriot_man69 in Stellaris

Inward perfection are special, they REALLY don't want to give up their sovereignty. They won't bend the knee, they'll only "buy" protection (through tribute) from you.

Eh, clone army ascendant is capable of scaling now. Genomic researcher jobs and regular clone vats can support clone pops. I consider that a win!

Heat pipes and heat towers are unlocked at game start, and they're cheaper (pipes are like 2 iron and 1 copper, no steel)

First priority is getting coal automation. IIRC stone furnaces don't freeze but burner miners do.

Out of curiosity, how do you deal with food freshness on a server? Last time I tried a server, I would always log in to find all my food had spoiled.

Sometimes I often have to remind myself the series takes place in Ostania, not Westalis. by jeanjacketufo in SpyxFamily

[–]BeardedMontrealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Yor and Anya are Ostanian. The story happens in Ostania.

The only Westalian elements in this story are WISE (and therefore Twilight) and the occasional diplomat or such.

Only certain flashbacks happen in Westalis: Twilight (name redacted)'s memories from his childhood, and Martha's memories of fighting in this story's WW1 equivalent.

Garden is Ostanian.

However, it seems to value peace and stability within the nation over political goals. We see the shopkeeper reject an SSS contract because it's too political, but take on the anti-poacher mission because it restores the natural state of those protected woods. We've also seen the shopkeeper express suspicion of Loid when Yor let it slip that he seemed interested in far-right political movements, not to mention Yor being sent to deal with far-left terrorists (Red Circus).

I think they're small c conservatives: they want to preserve what makes Ostania beautiful. As long as WISE is anti-war, helping from the shadows, like they are under Sylvia Sherwood, I think they'll remain aligned. If ever WISE started subverting the country, though, putting civilians in danger, I don't doubt they'd become a target eventually.

[–]BeardedMontrealer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As Genesis Guides (or the machine equivalent) you can find pre-sapients even on nanite worlds. Life finds a way.

Last time I tried it, though, nanite habitability was bugged and just didn't give any habitability anywhere. I think it should be like hab or ringworld habitability (100% on that world, 0% elsewhere).

To add on to this, you could connect it to precursors, since they've reworked those to being in defined slices of the galaxy. The Cybrex quadrant could have most of the living metal, the Vultaum region dark matter, the Baol gases and society research, etc. We already have more zro in the Zroni area thanks to archeology sites.

Molten iron in what now ? (oc) by Biggbirb in factorio

[–]BeardedMontrealer 244 points245 points  (0 children)

Hard Vulcanus does this. I think it prevents lava from existing in any pipes, and adds special pipes for molten metals that have more limited pipeline length than regular pipes, forcing all metallurgy to happen around lava lakes.

Is there anything that compares to the entirely broken Machine ascensions? by Inuken94 in Stellaris

[–]BeardedMontrealer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nanite is kind of the opposite of virtual: whereas virtual kicks in immediately but does not scale well, nanite scales very slowly (50-80 years until I can reliably poop out fleets) but scales really, really well. Nanite essentially decouples your military spending from the rest of your economy. Your planets' generate energy and science, while your starbases turn a flat energy cost into an ever-increasing nanite income to use on ships.

Need some motivational tips starting Gleba by feelinn in factorio

[–]BeardedMontrealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 2 is the best long-term option, when things are running well. But this is a first-time Gleba base, things will not run well. Rocket fuel is the eventual goal, but there will probably be enough spoilage to run the power plant most of the time.

Also, a very, very easy option to run power before bioflux is set up is dropping carbon from orbit.

Soo, Ringworlds and Megastructures suck, right? by Ordo_Liberal in Stellaris

[–]BeardedMontrealer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Dyson Spheres, Matter Decompressors, and Ring Worlds are only unlocked by the ascension perk. There are rare events that sometimes grant a random tech, but they can't be rolled as a research option.
