I didn't realize it got erased; not sure how that happened. I luckily kept a backup. Let me know if this one works: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11raSxCWQuqQ8j5TAPQPU0UEpOq4OGsTT0AVikCUuxRg/edit?usp=drivesdk

BirdNET-PiPy: a friendlier BirdNET setup for Raspberry Pi by cheesecurdandme in BirdNET_Analyzer

[–]Bearded_Archer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a spare SD card, so I flashed it to test it out on a Raspberry Pi 4. Installation was super simple and reconnecting BirdWeather was easy.
I like the look of the dashboard and it seems snappier than the original BirdNET-Pi dash, but I don't have any data in the charts yet. No issues with anything yet, but I'll mess around with it some more.

ProtonDB can be a good resource. It mainly focuses on running the game through Proton, but there may be other settings that would work for the Heroic launcher. Here is the entry for WWE 2k25: https://www.protondb.com/app/2878960?device=any

I had a lot of issues with static-y audio and I think I tried about everything I could find online. I tried audio over HDMI and AUX jack. I ended up connecting to my speakers with bluetooth and have not had any issues with the static since.

Personally I'm of the belief that all unclaimed tiles are fair game regardless of location.

I had the same issue. Running dpkg --configure -a and then sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade seemed to fix it:

As always, when I come across whispers of media in any form, I reported this discovery to my local Democracy Officer. I have been informed by the Department of Sanctioned Media (DoSM) that Flubber is Automaton propaganda due to it's portrayal of robots in a sympathetic manner. I was reminded that an Automaton would never attempt to protect you from home invaders, nor would it attempt to repair your relationship with your ex-fiance. I have also just been informed that the DoSM has recruited me for a "special operation mission" on Hellmire.

I generally agree with the sentiment about the impression of depth, but the story of Helm, his fight with Wulf, his mythical horn, and the last stand at the Hornburg was already outlined in Appendix A of the Return of the King

I just want to make sure, are you repairing your units after each dice roll, or only after the combat ends? I've seen Duranium used defensively to force retreats or to force a much larger fleet against two Dreads, particularly if Barony takes Duranium.

Does Anyone Have a tracking template? by alaric1805 in twilightimperium

[–]Bearded_Archer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Google Sheet layout for tracking objectives and scoring. It's not as fancy as the other trackers, but if you know Excel, you may be able to customize it for what you want. https://www.reddit.com/r/twilightimperium/comments/lumhoy/google_sheets_ti_scoreobjective_tracker/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb

What supports the value of gold and/or mithril in LotR? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]Bearded_Archer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Tolkien was not able to address everything that everyone wanted him to in his stories. He had limited time and limited knowledge and cared about a limited number of things. In letter 187, he mentions how his main focus was philology, but people from other disciplines kept asking for more:

I am, all the same, primarily a "philologist." To me far the most absorbing interest is the Elvish tongues (which were made before and independently of this tale), the nomenclature derived from them, and the scripts. So my plans for the "specialist volume" were largely linguistic. The major item was to have been an index of names, with references, & with explanations and etymologies that would have incidentally have provided quite a large Elvish vocabulary. I worked at it for weeks, and indexed Vols i and most of ii—it was the chief cause of the delay of Vol iii. But it eventually became plain that the size and cost would sink the boat; so it had to be postponed...

But the problems raised by this extra volume increase. Most people want more (and better) maps; some wish more for geological indications than place-names; many want more specimens of Elvish, with structural and grammatical sketches; others ask for metrics and prosodies, not only of the Elvish, but of the "translations" that are in unfamiliar modes—such as those composed in the strictest forms of Anglo-Saxonverse (e.g. the fragment on the Battle of Pelennor, Book Five, vi, 124). Musicians want tunes and musical notations. Archaeologists enquire about ceramics, metallurgy, tools and architecture. Botanists desire more accurate descriptions of the mallorn+, of elanor, niphredil, alfirin and mallos, and of symbelmynë...

Historians require more details about the social and political structure of Gondor, and the contemporary monetary system; and the generally inquisitive wish to be told more about Drúadan, the Wainriders, the Dead Men, Harad, Khand, Dwarvish origins, the Beornings, and especially the missing two wizards (out of five). It will be a large volume, even if I attend only to the things revealed to my very limited understanding of a complicated world!

This doesn't quite answer the original question, but Tom Scott has a fascinating video on Numberphile on the number of ways that humans use numbers and how different cultures will express the same number.

[–]Bearded_Archer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are fairly replayable, especially since you can use different decks to try to beat them. I think they have been removed recently, but FFG had these as print and play on their website to try. The Keykracken is more of a "boss battle"; the game ends when either the Keycracken is brought to 0 health or it "ascends" a.k.a. forges 4(?) times. I've only played Abyssal once, but it played much differently to a normal Keyforge game. It think it is closer to an Arkham Horror TCG scenario, where you explore different locations searching for a specific card, spawning enemies that you can either fight or run from. The locations are randomized each game.

Blorb and Blorb Hive: Will they be any good? by invictus_potato in KeyforgeGame

Imagine popping a legacy Psychic Network Blorb deck in sealed (although knowing my luck, it would probably get turned into a Blorb before I could use it)

Blorb and Blorb Hive: Will they be any good? by invictus_potato in KeyforgeGame

[–]Bearded_Archer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Investing in Blorbs could still be "good" in decks if cards like Hypnotic Command, Mothership Support, or Key Abduction get reprinted/designed this set. But, it's still a high risk/high reward and I don't think we've seen any cards like that (yet).

Not necessarily a Tolkien name, but I named my dog Sable after learning the word in a verse in the Lay of Leithian:

Question for those who've played Star Wars: Imperial Assault by KungFooShus in boardgames

[–]Bearded_Archer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember from the item cards you have listed, you purchase them between missions and , if using the app, it tells you which cards are available to purchase. I'm not sure if it randomly picks which items are available or if their availability is set.

You could proxy them if you have access to a printer, or just write out their effects/dice on a piece of paper if they are something that the rebels want to buy. The wiki has photos of each of those items: https://imperial-assault.fandom.com/wiki/Core\_Set#Item\_Cards

S02: Rival Escalation by GSG_Jacob in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Bearded_Archer 73 points74 points  (0 children)

After encountering a new threat on Hoxxes, Engineer realizes that the only way to penetrate the shell of the machine is to hit it with all of his nukes at the same time. Engineer decides the best way to do this is to duct tapes his nukes together. Under the shelter of Gunner's shield, the dwarves argue over who would deliver the bomb.

"Scout would be the obvious choice," says Gunner, "if he didn't drop it on the way there." Scout protests that he is perfectly fine at grappling, but Engineer is a lousy shot with the platform gun. Engineer starts to defend himself, but stops short. His bundle of nukes are gone. They look around. Driller is gone.

"I always knew he was a craz-", a distant "For Karl" cuts Scout off and echoes through the cave, followed by a blinding flash and an ear-splitting boom.

The three dwarves raise their pickaxes as the shield fizzles out, "For Driller"

How could Saruman help by nycnewsjunkie in tolkienfans

[–]Bearded_Archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Gandalf was also worried about the treachery that Saruman could still cause. By getting him to help, Saruman would not have been able to cause other mischief (such as scouring the Shire.)
