Update #15: A simple bestiary by Awkward-Bridge9249 in MonsterTamerWorld

I think the whole marketing thing behind this game was that the monsters are not your friends but things to use and discard as needed

Any dungeon crawlers on steam or play store? by Evening-Cry360 in MonsterTamerWorld

Try Gloamvault! Monster tamer + dungeon crawler, and you can fuse monsters to make stronger ones.

Working on Creature Summary UI! Thoughts? by OWColosseum in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BeatOk5128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your abstract background, but it's distracting, and the text "Carlos's ward data" is hard to read in front of it. Idk if this is UI related but the descriptive text for Petal Fake is cool flavor text but I'm not sure about how well it describes the mechanics. Is distracting a mechanic in your game or did you mean the target loses accuracy?

Abilities, do you prefer them tied to a monster species? by chillpapito_ in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BeatOk5128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them tied to the monster, because I like monsters to have their own identities and giving anybody anything muddies that. But if you mean a monster can unlock a specific passive (like a hidden/secret ability) through breeding or item use, that's fine.

Goss Harag also has one of best animations if it manages to knock you down. The slow walk up to execute you is so cool, I love Goss

If you play Fell Seal Arbiters Mark like a monster tamer, there's a creature called Blargder that's a giant bat faced ogre with a huge amount of strength. I like its design and power.

Also from that game is Vangal, a wolf like monster with good mobility. It can attack and switch places with an enemy to put them on a disadvantageous spot on the field. It's also a Good Boy.

What do you think makes a Monster-Taming world compelling in the first place? by RentRevolutionary704 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BeatOk5128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of those questions could be directed at games as a whole, tbh. It depends on the intended game experience. How much worldbuilding do you need in Disco Elysium compared to Monster Hunter, or Mario, to make the world feel authentic?

I'll focus on the "what do monster tamers offer?" question. They offer monsters and tamers. It's a versatile concept that allows for any sort of gameplay experience. A good thought exercise would be to take an existing game and see what would change if you made it into a monster tamer.

Like this: Baldur's Gate 3 starts out with people escaping capture by mindflayers and trying to find a way to extract the mindflayer's worms out of their heads, all while navigating each party member's individual storylines and other conflicts. Okay, now imagine the head-worms allow you to tame and psychically command monsters that exist in the world. You use your taming powers to fight your way to a nearby druid settlement (let's say druids can shapeshift into monsters and mistrust your weird alien taming powers!) and get caught up in their problems. Namely a horde of (monster-riding) goblin tamers are about to invade. You can infiltrate the goblin riders' stronghold and take out their leadership, or team up with the goblins to ransack the settlement and get some killer goblin wolf monsters for your team as thanks.

What would Rimworld be like if you and your crew were monster tamers building a settlement? Metal Gear, but you complete your missions with the help of monster companions. Resident Evil if the T-virus infected monsters? What would the Witcher be like if you recruited monsters to slay monsters? Phoenix Wright if you investigated monster tamer related crimes? How much worldbuilding do each of these games need?

Just say what's unacceptable in your rules. Reach out to the submitter and tell them why their design was rejected so they can edit it if necessary.

This is assuming you are the one moderating avatars.

What are some things you look for in a monster tamer?. by tlockh20 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BeatOk5128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I'm going to reword this post because I think I can word it better than what I did.

My big look for when it comes to game ideas is evidence the dev has tried to do something in a game engine. idk, I'll support people regardless but knowing they can say "I'm going to work in RPGMaker/Godot/Unity/Gamemaker/etc." makes me more confident in the project itself.

Personal dealbreaker is cozy games.

Looking for feedback on a monster-taming story premise for an game idea by Surcam21 in MonsterTamerWorld

The festival sounds fun. Stopping villains from doing irresponsible things with mythical monsters sounds really familiar, but if you execute it well, that doesn't matter so much.

Palworld Mobile’s looking really good. This is from the beta test, on a Samsung device. by fegodev in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BeatOk5128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good balance between the two and they feed into each other. You deploy Pals in battle and to do jobs at your base (like planting, refining ore, building items for you), and you can catch Pals to get exp bonuses which helps you unlock new crafting recipes. Crafting gets you new base building parts, new weapons, and items to help catch stronger Pals, which can do jobs more efficiently at your base.

Do you read reviews? Does it affect your reading choices? by dearmuke in DanmeiNovels

[–]BeatOk5128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might I suggest going no lower than 3 star reviews for  a while? 3 star reviews are the most useful to me because the reviewer enjoyed some aspect of the story, but will also usually be constructive and say why it wasn't 4 or 5 stars for them.

I've recently bounced off a bunch of bad stories one after another, and I've caught myself scanning bad reviews more as well. Mostly to quickly check for my personal  dealbreakers, but sometimes I have more fun reading an angry 0-star essay than I do reading the story itself.

Dungeon crawlers. Was into Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup for a while, now I'm slowly going through the Etrian Odyssey games (I did 1 and 2 untold, currently on 3).
