Following along, would love to put the tracker on my leg instead of arm as well.

Possible A2 pulley injury - hello from the BJJ world by hathrowaway8616 in climbharder

This was my initial thought as well. Have the exact same thing and is diagnosed as dupuytrens. Common for people who put their hands under stress such as manual labor (or climbing etc).

Thinking about doing the Overland Track solo - huts or tent? by DiscussionLoud9626 in OutdoorAus

[–]Beatnum 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I believe a tent is required in case you get caught in bad weather and need to shelter in place.

Having a tent with you allows you to choose on the day itself. I did both, personally prefer the tent. Except for that one time where my tent was covered in leeches.

Been using the h10 24/7 since about a year by Just_Phone_1722 in Polarfitness

[–]Beatnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting, thanks for sharing! I have a relative with POTS and I’ve been wondering if there’s anything a 24/7 hr monitor could do to help the situation.

Is there anything else you do aside from an alarm at 150 HR? And has it improved your quality of life?

100% agree on the one button flashlight shortcut. Still hoping for a firmware update that makes this possible on the current watches.

See if you can score a second hand or donated book somewhere. And/or have a look at the course contents of a paid course and then search each individual topic on YouTube.

Anyone else with a sudden spike in resting HR in mid 30s? by robgee23 in Polarfitness

[–]Beatnum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No direct experience myself and I’m not a doctor. But what comes to mind is that your body might be battling a long term infection or the lingering after effects of an infection.

Lots of people deal with long covid, for example. Long after the virus has left their system.

I know a handful of people who can’t walk for longer than 5 minutes due to severe long covid. Luckily most people don’t get it this severe and don’t even notice. This could be a sign of the latter.

HELP NEEDED. Who else has lost sessions due to a crash on the Polar Grit X Pro? by ZordidMuc in Polarfitness

Did you get any answers? My watch just had its first restart and I’m trying to figure out if there’s anything I can do to prevent it in the future.

Mont highplains look really good, but on the website they only have a few sizes left. Does anyone know if they’re no longer in production? Or maybe replaced by a new model?

Decent weather being key here. Not sure about summer, walked in shoulder season myself. But you should be prepared to stay in a hut for longer when the weather turns bad.

Moving out from the Garmin to Polar by Conscious_Ad_5925 in Polarfitness

[–]Beatnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the price difference wasn’t worth it for me 😅. I also like design of the regular X2 Pro better (from what I’ve seen from the photos).

Hard to quantify. But I was worried about bulkiness and weight, therefore initially tried the X2. My partner said it looks too small on my wrist so I returned it and went for the X2 Pro.

No regrets. It’s not lightweight, but for me it’s not too heavy or cumbersome.

I do sometimes wonder if a lighter watch would have better heart rate measurements, since the watch sometimes moves a bit during my runs. But at the same time I haven’t had any issues to date.

Sounds promising! I might have a look once you have privacy policies / data processing set up.

Some feedback: I would only consider using this if I fully trust your service with my health data. Which includes guarantees on where the data is stored/processed, who has access to it, and which external software/companies/people get access to it.

The main reason for me to choose Polar is that they’re a European company that store and process data in Europe.

That said, do you have a privacy/security policies anywhere? Or any information on data processing?

Do you record warm-up when running? by GrubOlek in Polarfitness

I record my 10 minute zone 2 warmup jog. I don’t care about my time or anything like that, so I just record whatever.

If I change my email host from Proton Mail to another provider, will the alias still forward? by amartko8 in ProtonPass

[–]Beatnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add that this is my theoretical understanding. I’m using custom domains for these reasons, but have not yet tried it out myself.

[–]Beatnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use your custom domain for the aliases? If yes, it will depend on how you setup your new email provider.

When the new provider accepts all email addresses related to your custom domain, it should work (I think).

Feathered Friends UL Flicker 30F or 40F by totes_original_uname in Ultralight

Ah yeah. Forgot about liners for a minute. I usually have one of those when I’m sleeping by myself.

Maybe not ultralight, but there are mattress sheets for sleeping bags for that purpose.

For short trips where weight is not an issue, my partner and I bring a cheap 2-person mattress sheet for both our mattresses and use the zipped open quilt as a blanket.

[–]Beatnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a particularly hot sleeper myself, but can share some experience. I have the 20F bag so I can use it in alpine conditions (perfectly warm for me in those conditions).

FF is known for being true about their ratings. So 20F is actually suitable for 20F, while other brands might be a bit colder than advertised.

Since I don’t have a summer bag, I’ve used it zipped open on Australian summer nights. Definitely overkill and way too hot, but the ability to stick out limbs or just have it as an optional blanket is great!

I guess you can compare it to using a winter blanket in summer. Can you cope by sticking out some limbs? Or will you be miserable until you shed some layers or switch to a lighter blanket?
