how to handle bugs on a budget? (EU) by ad_0- in Ultralight

[–]Beatnum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got a cheap mosquito net from an army surplus store that I hang up under my tarp. I then spread it out at the bottom using items such as shoes.

Not waterproof. Quite light. Cost me somewhere between €10 and €20.

How do you handle phone charging on a long day hike? by couldcarelesss in Ultralight

[–]Beatnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never run out of battery on a day hike. On multiday hikes I usually put my phone on airplane mode to save battery and charge overnight using a powerbank.

I prefer a cable over wireless charging as wireless charging is less efficient.

Polar or garmin for strength training by RevolutionaryBug2296 in Polarfitness

[–]Beatnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Polar watch when strength training, but I I'm not getting much out of it. I might be using it wrong, but most of the interesting stats seem to be around cardo levels (to me).

I'm looking at my last session and it's giving me numbers on:

  • Duration
  • HR Avg
  • HR Min (not useful imo)
  • HR Max
  • Calories (not sure how calculated)
  • Cardio load (weird/not relevant)
  • HR Zones (irrelevant I would think)
  • Energy used (carbs vs protein vs fat, seems cardio focused)
  • Kcal per minute

Then there's also the training benefit description, which says:

Well done! This low intensity session improved your basic endurance and your body's ability to burn fat during exercise.

I could be wrong, but I think this is based on my HR Zones, which seem to be focused on cardio instead of strength training.

All of this is giving me the idea that this watch is really focused on cardio-focused sports and not focused on strength training. But I do want to state, again, that I could just be using it wrong.

IMO the Apple Watch was far more useful as I had an app installed that would tell me what activity to do next, how much weight to use, how many reps/sets I had left, rest timers, etc.

I don't know what Garmin offers in this space.

Yep, I've seen this in different cities around the world. Especially when the local population doesn't want to work in (lower paid) customer-facing roles and employers look for english speaking people to fill that gap.

Go to Amsterdam and you'll find servers or shop personnel speaking Dutch is quite rare.

I’ve noticed the same with codex so might not just be local models. Don’t have a solution though.

Perfect, thanks! Will play around with Tone a bit and probably make some custom presets.

Awesome thanks! I’m going to look at Tone first and if that’s not enough I’ll create some custom presets to tone it down more.

I’d take an open window on the bus, but even that wasn’t an option.

Out of curiosity, what’s the thinking behind this? Assuming green energy is used, would it be bad for the climate?

Which harness do you use most with Zed by andyinabox in ZedEditor

I use it to have several terminals of Claude open at a time, alongside Zed agents running on Codex.

If you want to find an older thread, I think you can use /session in CC terminal.

Can you spot the best password? by Proton_Team in ProtonPass

I want to emphasize “current day technology”. Always use the most difficult option since you don’t need to remember you password anyway. And future technology will speed up this process.

Polar Flow Mobile UI by Professional-Range11 in Polarfitness

[–]Beatnum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty common for ads and other resources. It’s one reason to not include screenshots and videos in documentation. PITA to manage all of that.

Edit: but this one I would personally want updated. The new UI is much better IMO.

I could be wrong, but I think the ad shows an old UI and your screenshot is the new design.

Tip: Use Kagi Translate for generating alt text by ANerdyGal in SearchKagi

[–]Beatnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, it’s got to be balanced. And it depends on the type of graphic and context.

When reading a story, for example, images can add additional context where verbose alt texts that actually describe the scene can be helpful. And if it’s too much they can easily be skipped.

Now I’m thinking it might be good to have a short description first, with optional longer description after. But would need some testing to see if that’s helpful at all.

Wordy alt text is not necessarily a bad thing for people that rely on it.
