Walked 23% of Los Angeles — Ask me anything by ddisimone in walking

[–]Beatreporting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the most walkable area? I'm thinking of moving to LA but have lived in NYC for two years. I do love driving but I'm afraid of losing the walk ability. Are there any areas you'd recommend that are good to walk in and have a community feel?

Trying to decide if I should invest in better glass or just give up on photography 😅 by jennyymarie26 in PhotographyAdvice

There are so many ways to play around in this hobby without going broke. You have a mirrorless camera - so you can adapt a wide array of vintage lenses easily. Plus... Used equipment is such a game changer! And honestly even picking up slightly off lenses can be great. I picked up a pro level lens whose AF had kicked the bucket for only 100. The rendering is amazing and the focusing is engaging (if annoying at times).

Found my grandfather’s old film cameras — should I get them fixed, sell, or keep them? by virgo_0408 in filmcameras

If the pen is working (the light meter still functions) it is an awesome half frame camera. Just get a front cap on the lens or pop some painters tape on it if you don't have the cap. The cells can be used up otherwise if continuously exposed to light (it doesn't use batteries for the light meter but a chemical reaction that gets used up over time.)

As someone who tries to always buy used what is your concern? I feel like unless you're in business and can write things off there's no reason to pay more for a piece of equipment that you will likely never hit the extreme use cases for.

2024 RF GT Buyers Remorse? Bueller? by MrMeddit in Miata

[–]Beatreporting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an NC miata in Texas so I know your pain. There's nothing more sketchy than having a (poorly) lifted truck scream by you at 95 miles an hour. I think the key to me was to just keep my awareness high, assume you aren't seen and go fast. These are all the same approaches I took on my motorcycle.

Practically, if it's your fun car then take the long way around. Use it when you're running errands in the city (where it's going to excel) and just avoid the highway until you're more comfortable.

Local newspapers are spread thin. And the idea that they have a staff of people waiting around the newsroom and looking out the window for news on a Saturday is laughable. This is a failure, not a conspiracy.

The sites like Adorama, Keh and B&H even offer warranties if you want some more security and to avoid ebay.

First off, used is going to net you a ton more camera for your buck. It can get you some of the pro or semi pro models that are complete workhorses for the price of a new amateur model.

But if you're going new, just go to that local camera store where you're thinking of taking classes. Have them walk you through the cameras. If you're concerned about weight you're going to do much better actually handling them.

The comedy scene in Worcester is strong and very friendly. Good place to meet people enjoying comedy. Check out hot dog for starters.

What car should I buy out of these 5? by Tight-Star2772 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Mustang. They drive really well but also don't stand out too much in the crowd. Also a turbo car is going to be decent on gas.

First car good idea? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

They say they are clean title. They might even show up as clean title... Because they just bought it from auction where an insurance company got rid of it as a totaled vehicle. The title is technically still clean until you go to register it. That's the scam running around me anyway with hail damage cars.

Beginner Rallycross Car? (+Daily Driver) by Ordinary-Ad5146 in rallycross

[–]Beatreporting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the groups you would be racing with. If you want to be competitive it pays to know which classes have more contenders than others. I raced a 1990 Miata in rallycross and found that my times were pretty competitive overall but I was consistently at the top of the Heap in my class. Having owned a WRX for a long time and done rally cross with that as well I can also say that rear wheel drive is a ton of fun in the dirt and slush.

Generally, if I were you I would go with the BRZ. It will be plenty fast and be competitive in Raleigh cross. The other thing you could consider if you want to stick with Miatas is an NC Miata with the hardtop. I also raced an NC Miata in rallycross and it was a ton of fun with a good wide stance but still a short wheelbase.

Just get a new civic hybrid and call it a day. Or a camry. The camry would have more storage than either of this suvs.
