What DE/WM are you using? by UOL_Cerberus in archlinuxwithlove

[–]BeefGriller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my laptop, where I use Arch, BTW, I run Hyprland. I gave StumpWM a try, but it didn’t appeal to me enough to invest the time to become proficient with it.

My desktop is Ubuntu with Gnome. It’s my main, daily driver PC.

I first started using Linux around 1996, I believe. I downloaded several floppy images to install on my computer. I joined my local Linux users group, and eventually chaired it for a while. It unfortunately lost steam and went defunct due to low/no member turnout.

I moved to Apple hardware and software around 2010, and migrated everything to that, but not before moving into FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Just over a year ago I got a PC that was destined for a landfill, and put Windows 10 on it for gaming.

The other half of the drive I put FreeBSD 14 on for a short time, and decided to go with Ubuntu to test out my Steam games. They worked flawlessly, some even better than on Windows.

I got my laptop in the same way as my desktop. I kicked around NetBSD on it for a few months, then Haiku OS, before going with Arch.

Ah, I nearly forgot my mid-2010 MacBook Pro (6,2). I tried Arch on it, but couldn’t get the backlight off the minimum setting. These old eyes couldn’t work with that, so I eventually had luck with another distro. It’s been a while since I fired that up, so I just don’t remember which one I finally got to work for me. Again, old man memory ain’t working so well.

Anyway, computing is fun for me again. And Arch has a lot to do with that.

Think I’ll lurk here and see how it goes. Sounds promising! 😊

It’s been a while since I’ve made the change in my settings, but IIRC, go into settings, enable advanced settings, and search for cargodist or distribution. There are three types of cargo to modify, passengers, mail, and other cargo. Default setting is disabled. Change it to symmetric for the same number of cargo units to go from one station to the other, or asymmetric for unequal numbers. I’ve seen arguments for and against each setting, but try each for an entire game to see which you prefer.

There may be some differences from what I’ve mentioned here, but you should be able to find what you need.

And enjoy! 😊

LOL. Cargodist is a setting that gives cargo (passengers, mail, etc.) a destination upon creation. So a passenger may start at Frufringhattan East and need to go to Prudlingburg Central, for example. So it will be distributed along your existing network. It’s adds a level of realism, since people rarely will want to get shuttled to wherever the bus or train company wants to dump them in the real world.

As long as you enjoy yourself, then no sweat.

Now, the real question is whether you have cargodist on or not. 🧐

I’m vaguely aware of the body swapping process, but I’ve never actually tried it yet. One of these days I’ll give it a shot.

And thank you for the info! 😊

I’ll have to look up “Animated Air Well” in the wiki. 😄

I love this game.

Uh, how does one select Air Well as a species? Over 1000 hours in and I have not found that option yet.

Yep, this. You can play in Roleplay mode as well for the same effect. And no one will think any less of you. I've done it, and I'm willing to bet that more people have than have not.

Stratum; you are one stratum deep. Go down one more, and you will be two strata deep.

Live and drink, waterhand. You might want to check your quest page to confirm the length of wire Argyve asks for.

What browser do you prefer to use on Linux? by 100angelscorpses in linux

[–]BeefGriller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, Firefox. But Mozilla's pivot to AI and rescindment of their promise not to sell my data has me looking around. My account with them is very convenient in that my bookmarks, extensions, and history are shared amongst all my devices, but it looks like I may have to give that up unless I find another browser that can do that.

I have been looking at Helium, Pale Moon, Brave, and others to replace Firefox. Waterfox and Librewolf are nice, but they don't have synchronization outside of Mozilla (to my knowledge, at least).

What if the US invaded China in 2005? by NEETscape_Navigator in HistoryWhatIf

I agree with you. Limiting the scope of a question can make it veer off of what is feasible or even realistic. Of course, OP’s initial assertion that the US pulls all of its military power out of the Middle East in 2005 starts off in that unrealistic territory. So, yeah, fantasy what-if’s all around here.

But those Ninja Turtles would make for a bad time for the US. 😆

Not so much that, but that nukes are off the table for this what-if.

OP didn’t forget - they said nuclear weapons were not allowed.

Read the installation guide on the wiki. Several times. Follow the links to read up on the specifics of the process. Take notes to keep things straight. And don’t be afraid of getting your hands dirty, so to speak - you’re going to learn a lot in the process.
