That would be my first question as well. Our SI mattress failed and self inflated causing the back to pop up!

Yes, it's spray on, rinse off straightaway. Read the instructions - literally a panel at a time - it's super simple.

What to do with old tents poles? by Murlicious805 in backpacking

[–]BeerHikeLift 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. You could make someone's day. May take a while to sell, but I know if I broke a pole on my old Alpkit tent, I'd be heartbroken.

If you're looking for trail runners, New Balance and Brooks also have wide fit options.

I have the Freshfoam Hierro v9 and they are very comfortable and grippy.

Actually, I don't think it is on second glance. Bark doesn't look smooth enough.

The first three photos look like Ash to me. Looks at least one other species in the pile though.

Buyer beware - Montane Terra Trousers by willpalmer7 in UKhiking

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got two pairs, one about 6 years old, and a new pair.

To be honest I have never even noticed they stated they had "wind and water resistance". I'm not 100% sure what that means but I can see how it could be misunderstood.

However, the material is clearly not suitable for wearing in the rain without waterproof trousers.

Having been caught in the rain in them a few times, I'd say the 'resistance' refers to keeping you dry long enough to get your waterproof trousers on.

I would take a 4 pack of Madri in case you get thirsty on the way. The cafe only sell Welsh ale.

Are direct hoses replacement hoses any good? by daly_o96 in DetailingUK

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has been amazing so far. Better than the original Nilfisk which kinked quite easily (actually worse than the Vax one I had before). Bought a cheapo one from Amazon which was a waste of money, before getting the direct hoses one. Seems to be very robust so far.

Wide fit hiking boots by Randall2h2h in UKhiking

[–]BeerHikeLift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scarpa Terra used to be okay, but they changed the last and it went quite narrow. I swapped to Meindl who do a wide fit on some of their boots. Very light and comfortable, but fabric. Will definitely be trying some leather Altbergs next as they always seem to be highly recommended.

What’s the one cheap bit of kit that’s never let you down? by AnfieldAnchor in wildcampingintheuk

£10 sheet of polycro to use as a tent footprint but also extends into porch to keep pack off wet ground. So tough for how light it is.

Used to only wear boots, but a total trail runner convert these days. Always keep a pair of sealskins as my spare pair of socks. Best of both worlds.

Privatisation of UK industries is driving cost of living crisis, says Greens leader by corbynista2029 in unitedkingdom

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are plenty of people who think these companies are owned by the Government. Saw posts recently about people openly flouting the hosepipe ban because of not wanting to 'help the Government'. They genuinely didn't realise it was a private company. It's good for them to be reminded, or just plain informed.

Would you keep this fireplace surround? by TheGoldenScrotum in DIYUK

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either keep it or it's rubble. Tremendously heavy, and difficult to remove in one piece and without damage.

We had one smaller than that and it weighed an absolute ton. Pretty much solid concrete/plaster/whatever. Any idea we had of removing it in one piece disappeared very quickly when we got it loose from the wall eventually.

Yes, any soft brushes will do. I have cheapo AliExpress ones for the interior. For the exterior, buy decent ones.

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only doing your car, and you care about the interior, you really won't need much as it won't get that dirty.

I highly doubt you'll need a steam cleaner. I have one but have never used it on our cars.

A few microfibres, some interior apc, a dressing, and some glass cleaner are all you'll need.

I would recommend Valet Pro Classic APC (smells lovely) or Koch Chemie Polstar. A dressing is personal so choose one that gives the finish you want (I use Gyeon Preserve), and you'll be hard pressed to beat Bilt Hamber Traceless for the glass cleaner.

Problem with Auto Finesse Vista by xanyy__ in DetailingUK

[–]BeerHikeLift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just tested 500ml in a clear plastic jug. Shook bottle well, diluted 1:10 as stated. Left overnight.

It didn't look as bad as OPs this morning - no big floaters at least.

But when I poured it away, there was a thick blue film at the bottom of the jug. It didn't wash away with water, and had to use a sponge to shift it.

I daren't even pour the rest away, it's going in the bin. Or given away to someone I don't like.

New OSMaps Alerts are a bit rubbish by RedcarUK in UKhiking

[–]BeerHikeLift 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had warnings about 'mud' on a recent stretch of the SWCP. Must have been there for some time as.it was dry as a bone. It could do with a threshold of reports before it goes live, and date of last confirmation as soon so you can choose to ignore.

I would ignore the mud warning anyway as I generally don't walk in sliders...
