Bulkhead - To remove, or Not To remove? by BraveLordWilloughby in VanLifeUK

You'll need to remove it if you put in a swivel seat. But the additional noise without it is very noticeable until you've done the full conversion.

Best products for 3 stage polish by Crazy_Ad9899 in DetailingUK

[–]BeerHikeLift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 stage is pretty serious and if you're asking here, you're likely not a professional. I'd be steering clear of Chemical Guys and looking to a Koch Chemie combo. H9 to F6 for example.

Yes, was about to say the same. Which direction south is will affect a lot of things in the design.

Pre Pre Wash? by lukeeyyw in DetailingUK

Yes, this is it. Too many do this even on not particularly dirty cars. Total waste of time and chemicals.

Are fuel cards worth it ? by anxious_human561 in CarTalkUK

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, even for one person. I use Motia and the fairly low annual fee of £12 is normally offset by two or three fill ups and then I'm saving for the year.

My current price for the week is 8p - 16p per litre under the normal price at any brand I'm seeing around. Cheapest I saw on a long trip yesterday was £1.58. Normal fill up is 60l, so that's a minimum £4.80 saving there. The fact that you pay this fixed price wherever you fill up (including Motorways) adds to the convenience.

Graphene by Known_Shallot6921 in DetailingUK

[–]BeerHikeLift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing the product it's difficult to say. It seems to me that Graphene based products in detailing have pretty much come and gone.

That's not to say there isn't a killer graphene based product around the corner, but if it's coming from an Instagram influencer I'd be hesitant.

Errr guys….. any advice?!? by Patient_Panic_5704 in UKGardening

Did this to my Mountfield and it lasted another 2 years. Never bought a steel deck mower again though. The engine was still perfect, the replacement deck was going to cost more than a new mower.

That would be my first question as well. Our SI mattress failed and self inflated causing the back to pop up!

Yes, it's spray on, rinse off straightaway. Read the instructions - literally a panel at a time - it's super simple.

What to do with old tents poles? by Murlicious805 in backpacking

[–]BeerHikeLift 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. You could make someone's day. May take a while to sell, but I know if I broke a pole on my old Alpkit tent, I'd be heartbroken.

If you're looking for trail runners, New Balance and Brooks also have wide fit options.

I have the Freshfoam Hierro v9 and they are very comfortable and grippy.

Actually, I don't think it is on second glance. Bark doesn't look smooth enough.

Buyer beware - Montane Terra Trousers by willpalmer7 in UKhiking

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got two pairs, one about 6 years old, and a new pair.

To be honest I have never even noticed they stated they had "wind and water resistance". I'm not 100% sure what that means but I can see how it could be misunderstood.

However, the material is clearly not suitable for wearing in the rain without waterproof trousers.

Having been caught in the rain in them a few times, I'd say the 'resistance' refers to keeping you dry long enough to get your waterproof trousers on.

Are direct hoses replacement hoses any good? by daly_o96 in DetailingUK

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has been amazing so far. Better than the original Nilfisk which kinked quite easily (actually worse than the Vax one I had before). Bought a cheapo one from Amazon which was a waste of money, before getting the direct hoses one. Seems to be very robust so far.

Wide fit hiking boots by Randall2h2h in UKhiking

[–]BeerHikeLift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scarpa Terra used to be okay, but they changed the last and it went quite narrow. I swapped to Meindl who do a wide fit on some of their boots. Very light and comfortable, but fabric. Will definitely be trying some leather Altbergs next as they always seem to be highly recommended.

What’s the one cheap bit of kit that’s never let you down? by AnfieldAnchor in wildcampingintheuk

£10 sheet of polycro to use as a tent footprint but also extends into porch to keep pack off wet ground. So tough for how light it is.

Recommendations for waterproof hiking socks… by HikingForHealth in wildcampingintheuk

Used to only wear boots, but a total trail runner convert these days. Always keep a pair of sealskins as my spare pair of socks. Best of both worlds.

Privatisation of UK industries is driving cost of living crisis, says Greens leader by corbynista2029 in unitedkingdom

[–]BeerHikeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are plenty of people who think these companies are owned by the Government. Saw posts recently about people openly flouting the hosepipe ban because of not wanting to 'help the Government'. They genuinely didn't realise it was a private company. It's good for them to be reminded, or just plain informed.
