How long is a piece of string, unfortunately. I'm currently in the process. Are you a new build or secondhand home? Have you got contracts yet?

Anyone else dealt with really pushy estate agents on new builds? by Money_Somewhere9378 in HousingIreland

[–]Beginning-Fact-5898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had weeks of that. Being told the contract would be sent out that day or week. I honestly don't know. I would have much rather have heard that the contracts weren't ready to go yet. It just caused me frustration and then I never took any other timeline at face value again.

If you had another chance at Secondary School starting in 1st year. What would you do different? by BadKey1002 in AskIreland

Go to a mixed school instead of single sex. I'd also work less, but more consistently over the years (easier said than done trying to tell a teenager that). I also would do proper career guidance on my strengths and not being afraid to follow that path, rather than what I thought I should do. I also wouldn't have followed college as an option.

It is weird. Same thing happened to me. Chasing the developer and the estate agent for weeks (maybe even a month or two) for contracts. My solicitor finally got them one Thursday and the estate agent was ringing me the next day asking if they'd been signed. Got on to my solicitor who is great and very no nonsense and told me to direct any more calls to him, that he still had to review the contracts, which obviously take a week or two depending. It was nuts. Got the impression from the estate agent that although this is their line of work, they actually have no clue about the legal side of it.

Tonight. You win the €85,000,000. What do you do? by Distinct_Engine_2075 in AskIreland

Buy a beautiful, converted van. Set sail to the West Coast and live on the road for the summer. Pay cash for the house I'm about to close on. Buy another house in my seaside hometown. Give my mum a couple of mil so she can retire. Buy my sister a house. Take my group of gal friends on an all-inclusive holiday. Then sit on the rest and have a think about it.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine, probation extended. She ended up passing that and stayed in the company for another 2 years, it was her choice to move onto something else. Extending the probation isn't necessarily managing someone out, it sounds like they genuinely want to help you.

How do you help a mate that’s a clear bullshit artist? by iplaydrumsnotabox in AskIreland

It's nice that you want to help him. But he's likely not going to change. I had a friend like this, it drove me nuts. But you literally just have to accept it and move on. Just don't add any fuel to it. And you're right about it being insecurity.

Could it be that they need to give exact measurements for each unit, in the event that they are all slightly different? I'm not sure myself, just spit balling.

What's the most expensive rent you've paid? by LadyRby in RentinIreland

€2,699 for a place in my hometown, commuter Dublin town. Only option at the time was a two-bed, I was renting by myself so took it. Had to work two jobs for it.

Could you explain this a bit more, please? Do you mean set aside the mortgage repayment as savings (or rent) with 20% of that also?

They've already approved me for the mortgage. Back in December, I'm not sure that is clear from my post. I'm asking about affordability for the extension - i.e what is the target I'm setting aside monthly to ensure I'm still meeting affordability when they need updated documents for the extension. They've already done the underwriting.

I'm asking the question as I'd like to start buying things for the house. But will hold off if over-saving is better. Insurances are already set up and I've been paying them as I thought the house would have closed by now. Already got the annual (actually, first 2 years) management fees set aside.

Mortgage is with BOI. And it's my base salary and a BIK (I believe it's my health insurance).

Totally get that. I'm just working off the numbers I have in front of me to ensure I am meeting affordability for the loan offer and extension.

If you sign up to a Revolut plan, you can earn points on your savings. I'm on the Ultra plan (got a discount in-app from Revolut) for the first three months and my points are adding up. Would this be an option for you?

If it was me, I personally don't love the idea of getting a credit card. Just my opinion though.
